I take my daughter skating regularly at the Mid-South Ice House, and she has her own pair of skates (which I recommend if you are going to skate regularly). The facilities are in excellent shape. There is a nice area for parents who want to watch with a fireplace and cafe with refreshments (not as expensive as a movie theater, but higher than fast food). It costs $15 + a charge for skates. While it may seem expensive, it is also very expensive to operate an ice rink particularly in the south. There is a pro-shop inside to purchase skates and hockey equipment. They can sharpen ice skates and provide other services. The place is kept clean and tidy. It is important to check the calendar because public skating may be limited due to hockey games and tournaments. The University of Mississippi hockey team plays here, and you can attend/watch hockey games here. There is a roller skating rink down the street, should you want to skate and ice skating is cancelled due to hockey, but the Ice House is much nicer than the Roller rink. read more

My son was gone from school and wanted to go roller skating but, I searched for something different. I was pretty excited to know there's a rink in the Memphis area. And it's not a bad rink, but they've priced themselves so high that we will visit only when he really wants to go.For 2 kids 34.00. . If they'd lower their prices (on the ice and at the food bar) they'd increase demand. The vending machine is reasonably priced my daughter forgot her socks they were 2.00 make sure to have quarters only. It is a very nice facility built from, what I hear for, the needs of local Hockey players. Nothing wrong with that! It is what it is. We had my 9 yr olds birthday party here. My wife found it very hard to book the party because of the very lackadaisical attitude from the staff, mainly the lady that books the parties. She had to call three times and then finally go up there to finally book it. When she arrived to book in person she had to wait on her to finish "cooking her burger" to come see her. Party day comes and my kids had a great time! They loved the skating! That's what she wanted to do so it worked out just fine. They served one of the grossest excuses for pizza I have ever seen, but hey, my kids ate it. All in all a successful event. My wife and kids left happy and another birthday in the books. $200 seems excessive for the service rendered. Oh well. read more

Way over crowded all the time. Cosmic skate is a nightmare. It's dark and loud, and the lasers are crazy. It makes it nearly impossible not to run into someone. And then they have the skate helpers that turn kids into wrecking balls. Definitely not fun. Learn to Skate is awful, too. There are too many students and not enough teachers. And they don't clean the ice before lessons. It's really not worth it. Lessons are only 30 minutes long, but the instructors have to teach huge groups. For adult skate there is one instructor for 5 different levels of skaters (Baby beginners, levels 1-4). You end up with less than 5 minutes with the instructors. Definitely not worth the price. You then get 15 minutes to "practice" but that's essentially just a free skate because they let everyone move with no directions at all. It's definitely not safe. I won't be continuing lessons after this. The instructors are great, but the rink obviously doesn't care for them or for figure skating. This is very obviously a hockey facility, although it really isn't great for that either because there isn't really anywhere for people to sit and watch games. The parking lot is also a nightmare. For some reason parking is on the opposite of the building from where the entrance is. If you want to go a few times, you may have fun. But public skate leads to injuries thanks to the skate helpers, and lessons aren't worth their price. I wish there was a different rink here in Memphis, we definitely need one. read more

I've enjoyed this rink the two times I've been here. My major complaints seem to be similar to Jeremy W.'s. The rink has heavily limited public skate times and sometimes, if you come during peak hours, you'll be stuck waiting for shoes. The rink is fairly large, and this might be a plus to avid skaters, but for me personally, it was kind of scary--more wide turns with room to fall. And the skates are not the best. They're kind of uncomfortable no matter how good the fit is. Obviously the rink was designed for professional skaters, ice hockey, and the like, but it's nice to have an ice rink so close to home. The time I went here with my boyfriend we spent more time sitting and watching other people fall than actually skating. He said they should change their radio to a constant repeat of "Another one bites the dust." We probably had more fun narrating the falls than skating. But it was nice to have something to do together besides movies or eating. I still think I prefer a roller skating rink to this ice business. But it's not a bad way to spend an hour or two (and $11.) read more

Great new ice rink in the mid-south. Learn hockey or figure skating. They have several leagues for children all the way to adult. There are many different public skating hours. It's a great place to bring kids! They have 2 party rooms if you want to have a get together at the ice house. Ole Miss and Memphis hockey play at this rink. It's very exciting to have an ice rink closer to home. ^_^ read more

This place is very icy. I think that's a word. It is very fun to see the flags on the side and it reminds me of my time in the war.

Awful experience. If I could give them zero starts I would. First of all, the times on the website are incorrect. On the website in the Holiday Extended Hours - the times were listed 1-4:30pm. Upon arrival the times listed were publicized as 1-4pm. The staff claimed no responsibility for this obvious error and did not offer any reasoning except it was not their job. A manager was called and did not offer any more help. There was barely an apology from the "assistant" manager. The only response was to "come back later. " Once inside the rink, the number of skaters was well beyond acceptable skating limit. Children and semi pro skaters should not be skating at the same time! The staff was ABSOLUTELY no help at all. Not once did I see and effort from the staff to control the speed or direction of the skaters. Lastly, the little "hockey players" are the worst offenders! They were zigging and zagging around everyone. Icing was a huge problem!! There is no reason to ice anyone who is recreationally ice skating. Bear with me... I'm almost finished... The price has increased from $7.00 to now $9.00 as of December 2013. Skate rental is $3.00 on top of that. ABSOLUTELY not worth in my opinion. This place is great! High prices, but it's a clean, available ice skating rank, super close to our place, where the kids have fun (and get bruises always haha). Great place to hold birthday parties, specially during the summer when everyone else is already tired of hanging out in the sun. read more

My guests and I received a very rude service from the receptionist tonight. As soon as we walked in she stated we would only have 30 min because they were closing at 9:15 which was fine. However once my friend said that on the website it says they close at 10:15, that's when the receptionist rudely said that it also says on the website that they were closing at 9:15 due to a game. Factual as that may be, customer service matters and we did not appreciate how she approached us. It's all in how you say things. read more

Did a Learn Curling event here with my friends. The staff was very friendly, the facilities were in good shape, and we had a great time.

I attended a kids birthday party here on a Saturday afternoon. I had a blast. Surprisingly the restaurant here made the best CHEESE PIZZA I've ever tasted. The employees were nice and helpful. Only negative thing I can say is that the skates are a little well worn. I will be back. read more

Just tried to kill me with RAW chicken. Would not have been so bad had they acknowledged their mistake. Silently took chicken tenders back with no apology or comment. Then cooked another batch with a delivery of a grunt and, "Here you go." Nice! All that and they allow crazy skating with little supervision. read more

Ice update - not much progress - they just don't or won't cut the ice for public skates Positive - I did see one mid ice cut this time - granted the ice looked like a pool of water when it was done. The old ice maintenance people were better. People. Still a long way to go. I came here about 1hr before "public skating" closed off the rink so I was hoping to skate for about 45min with my girlfriend. I bought a groupon for the event and thus paid 1/2 price thank goodness. $11/person is full price. Upon entering the rink area (after paying) we waited in line for 10/15 minutes only to arrive at the skate rental where they had "run out" of BOTH of our shoe sizes?! Really?! Then just as we finally got the shoes (once someone else returned theirs) and found the right size and laced up they announced a 15/20 minute ice break for the manned ice machine to do it's thing. We thus got in 20 minutes of skating before they shut down the rink for private use at 3:30. Seriously? We were not told this upon entering!! The counter workers at 2:30 should have made us aware of the imminent long lines, shoe struggle, ice machine operations, and mandatory 3:30 shut down. It was ridiculous. Not to mention the location of this ice rink -- it's basically in the middle of an industrial park! Lastly, because the "public skating" times are so small and limited, it was completely packed!! My recommendation: If you're a skate-with-friends-for-fun-once-a-year-or-two kind of person then save your skills (and $$) for a vacation elsewhere!! read more

I have been here several times with my 8 and 10 year olds and they love it. We have even contemplated taking lessons. It is a big rink, which is good in my opinion, because everyone has room to do their own thing. There are typical fast skaters that don't always pay attention to the ones that are struggling, but that is at every rink. They probably could use more workers with whistles to control this issue a little better and offer some races, couples skating, under 8 skating, and teen skate. This would allow everyone the chance to show/work on skills. We have done the limbo there and that was a lot of fun. I have never been there at night so I cannot speak to that. Overall...Good Job! I am glad we have an ice rink in Memphis again:). read more
