I'll be honest--I am not what anyone would describe as an "outdoorsy person." My idea of nature is usually parking close to the entrance. But my wife wanted to visit the Memphis Botanic Garden for her birthday, and somehow this place turned me into a calm, peaceful woodland citizen for a few hours. First off, the weather was absolutely perfect, which already gives nature a huge advantage. Then you walk the grounds and realize this place is legitimately beautiful. Ducks casually living their best lives, koi fish gliding through the water like they pay property taxes there, birds chirping, flowers everywhere, waterfalls and water features--it's like stress gets checked at the front gate with your $12 admission fee. And let's not overlook the fact that there were food trucks... and one of them was selling cocktails. Suddenly being outside didn't seem so unreasonable anymore. What surprised me most was how peaceful the entire experience felt. It genuinely pulls you away from the noise of everyday life and drops you into this quiet little zen mode you didn't know you needed. Also, if you're planning a wedding or outdoor event, this place is loaded with gorgeous spots that look like they came straight out of a magazine. Seriously, every few steps felt like another "this would be an amazing wedding photo" moment. When the weather cooperates, this place is hard to beat as a happy place. This is one of the best things that we have in Memphis! If you are here to visit, or if you live here and have never been, I highly recommend this place for a sunny day visit. If you haven't been in a while, get your butt in here and buy a membership. Then come whenever you have a free minute. It's like you aren't in the center of the city when you are here. An oasis, if you will... They have tons of different gardens with blooms that happen all throughout the year. I love the hasta garden and the big springtime daffodil blooms! There is also a very nice rose garden that is full of beautiful blooms all summer long! I love everything about this place! One of the most elegant weddings I have ever attended was held here! There was a freaking shrimp tree! Who has a shrimp tree!! Mary does, that's who!! Between the gardens themselves, the awesome event venues this place houses, and the killer live music stage that's also here. It has it all! They have done a great job over the years growing and making this place relevant and useful for the citizens and visiting folks. They have plant sales, plant exhibits, art exhibit, and so much more here! The Orchid exhibit is one of the coolest plant based wonders I have ever seen. I did not know there were so many varieties of Orchids in the world. Seriously.... Seek it out and go check it out!! All of the staff have been great! I had the pleasure of going to the Memphis Japan Festival held at the Memphis Botanic Garden this past weekend. It was my first time there and it was beautiful. I can't believe I haven't been there before now. The festival was well attended. They had food, martial arts exhibitions, a bonsai competition and local vendors with some unique items to purchase. The employees handled the entrance well considering the long lines to purchase a ticket to enter. I would certainly recommend this place. read more

Memphis Botanic Garden hosts several exhibits, conventions, and events throughout the year! The gardens are beautiful and well maintained, with two halls that can be used for weddings or other large events along with plants for sale. The most recent event was Japan Fest, and it was great. This event has arts and crafts such as origami and writing in Kanji, information on studying abroad in Japan, Japanese literature, music, several events, the opportunity to cosplay, and many artists and vendors that uniquely express their appreciation for Japanese culture and animation. Each table is different, and you'll be amazed at what you find to gift yourself or someone else. There's even a tea station where you can rest if needed. There are many food trucks to choose from with an eating area. This is one of my favorite festivals held here! It is entirely outdoors, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing. The festival is only one day, so be sure to arrive early because it gets crowded and parking can be a handful. I used to go to botanical gardens every spring and summer wit my kids when they were younger. The gardens are still plush and luscious. But this visit was to see the Troll exhibit. N it DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I had an amazing adventure. Participated in the scrambled scavenger hunt and was just in awe at the large beautiful creations. Creations out of natural wood and other recycled materials. Once we finished finding all the trolls, we went into the greenhouse ,where we saw various tropical plants n baby koi fish .. its a couple of tables on the patio beside the greenhouse for lunch or playing games.. Once back inside, there's a store with local handgoods, also live plants for sale and if walking the halls you will find art work made from a variety of mixed materials. They are for sale as well. The Memphis Botanical Garden is also know for hospitality purposes..hosting private events. I've had the privilege to attend a few wedding receptions, graduation party's, retirement dinners and even fashion shows. Centerly located not far from major streets, the expressway and several eateries. This is just a whimsical place to host or attend something special. read more

Love coming to the gardens to walk and enjoy the beautiful sections. I wanted to see the newish greenhouse. It was so cool to see the different gorgeous flowers and plants. There was a very nice garden crew personnel willing to answer any of my questions. I ventured to the rose garden to see the vibrant and colorful flowers. Everything was so pretty. The weather was perfect since it was sunny and warm. I got some steps in to reach my walking goal. Before I departed, I looked at the Christmas plants and gifts displayed in the atrium. I purchased two mini poinsettias with peppermint candy like leaves. The restroom is always clean and tidy. The people at the receptionist table were nice and welcoming. I am planning to return to see the holiday lights. I always have a good time at the gardens. This is my second year to be a member of the gardens. read more

Since 2015, this venue has been a breath of fresh air that gives a sense of relaxation. Memphis Botanic Garden is my GOTO place (Especially Spring and early fall) to just enjoy the outdoors and beautiful plants and landscapes found here! Enjoy the green house, with all the many wonderful plants, trees from around the world. Then there is the Japanese Garden and all the large Koi fish, that just waiting to be fed. The landscaping is truly a work of art and many photographers can be seen taking photos of future brides in their wedding attire most often. If you have young children, they will truly enjoy this place. The gardens are walkable, but trust me, you will easily get 1K steps in no time. I look forward to returning again. I have not visited in the summer, so my review has only been when the temperatures have been in the mid 80s. Nonetheless, this is a true gem for the city of Memphis and for everyone to enjoy! What a beautiful venue. The food was beautifully setup. I was not able to eat anything, but the service for others was top notch.

We were traveling through the Memphis area and noted they had a Botanical Garden. We knew we had to go. This garden was really amazing and was setup very nicely! They even had a restaurant inside the garden. After lunch we did the tram ride which was included with the admission. The tram takes you are the park and they talk about all the plants. She said this garden has been here since the 1950's. The price was VERY reasonable and definitely worth the price! The next time we come through Memphis we will definitely stop by here again. My mother suggested visiting the Botanic Garden to celebrate her birthday. Though not my usual preference, we had a pleasant time, and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. Free parking is available with a spacious private lot featuring one-way aisles for convenience. Some sections are blocked off for unknown reasons, but it did not pose any inconvenience. The entrance fee is $12 for adults and $10 for seniors. Various events were taking place, including food trucks, tram tours, photo shoots, vendors selling merchandise, and Cultural tables representing the Netherlands, Japan, and Poland. Shaded areas offer numerous benches. The garden's aesthetics are striking, adorned with numerous statues and picturesque spots. It is indeed a delightful place to explore. read more

This is definitely a Memphis attraction that everyone must experience. It's a beautiful facility with beautiful grounds that will keep you captivated the entire time. I have 10000% been sleeping on this place. I had no idea how kid-friendly the Memphis Botanic Garden truly is and feel like I've deprived my children years of fun, worthwhile memories from here!!! If you have children and are in the Memphis area, plan a trip! The "my big back yard" is full of beautiful and creative spaces for your kids to enjoy and play at. The play areas give children the space and tools to use their imagination while playing in ways that other kid-friendly attractions in the area are lacking. We all had so much fun and I especially loved the hammock swing near the kids castle so I could sit, relax, and reflect. It was so wonderful. I'm so appreciative to the Botanic Garden management for offering a free day in the middle of such a difficult time in Memphis. I've been to Memphis Botanic Garden plenty of times over the years, but my most recent visit was probably my favorite. I joined group of friends on a self-guided tour of Alice's Adventures in The Garden. The sculptures were immaculate and HUGE, each depicting various moments from the story. As it heats up in Memphis, be sure to stay hydrated. Some of the smaller children cooled off with the MemPops, conveniently for sale next to a shady area near a fountain. Tickets to the exhibit are on sale through Sept. 30, visit the website for pricing info and the latest updates. So lovely in the spring. So kid friendly. My almost 5 year old son loved this place. We started with the Japanese Garden, he loved the Coi pond. Then went to the prehistoric section, he loved that. He thought the dinosaur stuff was so fun. Then we had lunch at the patio of the cafe. We played hide and seek in the sculpture garden while waiting for our food. Last stop was My Big Back Yard kids section; he loved everything in there. He cried when it was time to leave, because we won't be able to come back soon. read more

I only had a few hours to explore Memphis on my own during a recent trip for a wedding. I love botanical gardens so decided to give it a go. I was not disappointed. This would be an ideal place to bring kids, even without the special event. That said, I was there for an Alice in Wonderland exhibit that appeared to include special activities and costumed performers and even though it was winding down by the time I got there, the kids in costumes were a testament to the fun of the event. This place was really beautiful, fun, and relaxing. Make sure you grab the sunscreen and mosquito repellent and bring a water bottle. You'll want to stay a while. read more

On any sunny day in Memphis you are bound to find me here wandering around with my parasol in a dreamy like state. In fact I've been known to come here on not so sunny days. I eagerly await the blooming stages of all the jonquils and tulips and variety of Japanese magnolias. I like that you can find these random paths you did not know where there before and walk across old wooden bridges or even stone bridges. There are little bubbling creeks and ponds... and fat sassy (demanding) koi fish. There is much room for improvement (the butterfly garden is not so great and seems much neglected) but much that is wonderful just the way it is. They have recently added chickens (large regal beautiful beasts). If I ever tie the knot I want it to be here in daffodil hill in view of the Japanese garden. I have maintained a membership here for several years and will continue to do so. Interesting fact, if you have a membership at Memphis Botanical Gardens, you get the sane membership benefits at many of the Botanical gardens all over the country. With my membership I've visited (feee entry) the desert botanical gardens in Phoenix and the botanical gardens in Chicago, Atlanta, etc. You don't exactly have to be a plant enthusiast to enjoy the Botanical gardens. There are interesting exhibits, sculptures, local art, an entire area dedicated to getting kids involved in the outdoors and using their imagination. There are tons of a quiet reflective spots to sit and breath and just feel like 'you' again. If I happen to stumble upon you in your solitude ... please ignore me as I'm generally chasing down conversations with the honeybees. read more

I visited the Memphis Botanic Garden this past weekend with my family. It was a pretty fall day, and I did enjoy my visit, but I didn't feel that the garden was as nice as others I've been to in other cities (a lot of fields of grass, fewer manicured garden areas). I enjoyed the Asian Garden and the Japanese Garden most. And the fall colors around the majority of the other garden areas were pretty. We did get off the path several times and end up in areas that seemed like we weren't supposed to be there (like maybe construction is happening at the garden and we walked through it?). I think the Garden is better for families with children, because they have a large area for children to explore with fun things to climb up and slide off, etc. But for the price ($10 for adults), I wasn't terribly impressed by our visit. read more

This was a great place to relax. Really hot the day we went. But lots of shaded areas. Picnic tables too. Play areas for kids in the Big Backyard area. You can fill up your water bottle inside the visitor center. I wouldn't drink the water from the fountains outside as it was all cloudy with foamy bubbles on top when we filled up our bottles from those fountains. You can buy fish food at the front desk which we did. And we bought a shirt too because the Alice in Wonderland exhibits were cool. Saw some kids playing in the water too. Not sure that's sanctioned or not. But I think it's probably ok as it's in the kids area so maybe bring a swimsuit? read more

Visited the Botanical Gardens this past week on a girlfriend get away. One reason we went is because it is outdoors and we planned our adventures based on high COVID numbers in the Memphis area. The other reason is that botanical gardens are one of my favorite things. So we bought our tickets on line, $8 for senior admission which was reasonable. Plenty of parking, easy entry. The visitor center had plenty of clean bathrooms and several walls of art work for sale. It was a very hot day so not the best day to walk through the gardens but we took out time and enjoyed the visit. The lake with large fish and ducks was nice. I liked the fact that some of the walking trails were actually through wooded areas which made you feel like you were hiking. There are plenty of paved paths to wander through the Japanese garden, sculpture garden, rose garden, etc. The big thing is that going in September there are not a lot of flowers/bushes/trees blooming. But it is a well organized garden with lots to see, all tress/bushes/flowers were well marked. It is worth the trip but if I go again it will be when things are blooming. read more
