The price was reasonable. He did not use high pressure water. I'd hire him again in a moment.

I am writing this review for Universal Roofing & Siding and Edy Mendoza because I feel the need to…read moreshare my wonderful experience with this company here in Bellingham, WA. I originally sought to hire a roofing contractor via Yelp and sent a quote request to several companies at once. Edy responded within an hour of my posting and via messaging I shared pics of my roof, my budgetary situation and timeline. Edy acknowledged my concerns and met me at my property to better understand and communicate the reality of my roofing situation. Edy proceeded to share his findings (a roof layered with two layers of heavy asphalt shingles) and his professional advice and hesitation to lay a metal roof over the existing shingles, although doable, at this stage considering the amount of weight already bearing down onto the property's structure. His honesty and hesitancy to complete this job to merely satisfy the customer and collect a financial sum spoke volumes. He offered and I accepted, free of charge, a detailed breakdown of all material needed to complete a metal roofing project and after much negotiation with Edy, addressing the labor costs and trash removal, allowed me to better understand the magnitude of a roofing job. After some thought and citing the fact that he set an honest tone from the onset, I hired him understanding that other unforeseen structural issues could arise and upon their first day on the job site with his crew totaling 4, he in fact discovered a foam barrier placed upon the frame acting as an insulator (I have an a-frame home). Edy and I worked through the issue which resulted in additional materials and labor costs, but after detailed removal of the shingles and meticulously installing the metal sheets over insulation via wood slats, the project was completed beautifully and professionally. Edy and his crew were very detail oriented, respectful, courteous and friendly. I would highly and enthusiastically recommend that you offer Edy and Universal Roofing & Siding an opportunity to serve your roofing needs. JJ in Sudden Valley, BHAM, WA

We had a very disappointing experience with Cascade Roofing…read more Our home required extensive repairs (45k) after Cascade failed to protect our roof during standing seam install. Our family of 6 was displaced from our home for 5 months while we battled Chris and his insurance to cover the loss/damages and ALE. The workmanship fell below expectations, and several issues were either overlooked or poorly addressed. When we called about active water intrusion, they failed to act, and water leaked into our home for over 9 hours, causing significant damage. Even more frustrating, their insurance coverage fell short due to a workmanship exclusion, which resulted in our claim being denied and left us with substantial out-of-pocket expenses. (They are not covered to leave your roof 'open' after work begins) Communication was inconsistent, and accountability was lacking throughout the process. I would strongly recommend doing thorough research and asking detailed questions before choosing this company.

NOTE: THIS IS A REVIEW 5 YEARS AFTER THE ROOF WAS INSTALLED!!…read more I'm a disabled war veteran living on a limited fixed income in a mobile home with my daughter. Our home has it's original metal roof and over the years it has had multiple layers of snow coat roofing. I have patched it with seam-sealer, scraped and maintained it but over the years the weight of the snow had stretched the metal so that rainwater was collecting in pools and I had struggled with leaks continually. Handling this had become particularly difficult with my physical disabilities. Back in 2018 I reached out to several different roofing companies to get bids and they were ALL off the chart expensive. Cascade Roofing was actually recommended by several of the other roofing companies. Cascade Roofing's bid was actually "reasonable" compared to the others but even so, it was still more than I could really afford. I saved what I could and contacted Rick Steiner at Cascade Roofing and when he heard about my situation, he said that he would do what he could to help out. His team worked together very quickly to install an entirely NEW roof on my home and he even gave me a veteran discount that placed the end cost significantly below his bid! I was so thankful. I told him I would leave him an amazing review on yelp, but I didn't! The thing is... ...I've been living in this rainy area for so long with a leaky roof, I was honestly afraid that it was just a matter of time before the water started dripping here or there and I honestly didn't want to get my hopes up! I felt like leaving a positive review on a roof that hadn't been tested, couldn't possibly be considered "fair" and "honest". So, over the past 5 years have been checking everywhere with moisture sensors... NOTHING! NO LEAKS!!! After 5 years I can honestly leave this review now and say: CASCADE ROOFING IS THE ROOFING COMPANY TO HIRE FOR ALL OF YOUR ROOFING NEEDS!! These people are amazing, thoughtful, kind, and the quality of their work has stood the test of time! When it used to rain, I would get sick and stress as I'd listen quietly for the inside "drip" sound. I was worried that I would have to go out into the torrential rain, fumble out the ladder and try not to slip and fall as I'd carry a bucket of patch-seal to slop some of the chemical wherever I thought it might be leaking. Now when it rains... I smile. I still don't sleep great (because of my military issues) but when I do sleep, I don't have dreams of my roof falling down on me and my daughter in a mess of dripping beams and papier-mâché. To the team at Cascade Roofing, I salute you! Thank you for helping me and my daughter out when we had so little to work with. You've helped me to save our home and keep my daughter and me safe and dry. You are the BEST.

Not only were they about a third less than their competitors, they also used higher quality materials, and finished the job quickly! I have some experience in the building trades and was impressed by what I saw both in the quality of work and by the simple fact that unlike many Contractors/Subs these days, when Spane's crew got started, they didn't stop until the project was finished. In early 2025 I decided I wanted to build a 30'x32' shop at my house for my own use. I got bids from 5 different contractors and I decided on Spane for three main reasons: First, in my initial and subsequent meetings with Michelle, their designer and estimator, I learned she was very knowledgeable, personable, and very easy to work with. She took me through the entire design/build process from the beginning to the end, cheerfully answered my questions and put up with me changing my mind several times during the process. Because of her thoroughness, there were no surprises from start to finish. She made it easy. Second, Spane's bid came in the lowest, but I thought it was reasonable as I had done my own estimate of materials and labor based on current costs. (Unlike some of these Contractors around here who jack their bids up to try to make a years profit from a 2 month project...) Third, and most important, over the years I had seen for myself the quality of their work and at the end of my build, my new shop is exactly what I expected and exactly what I wanted. In today's world, Spane actually understands and pursues customer satisfaction and I can't recommend them highly enough.
