I recently had the privilege of completing the Medical Assisting program at San Joaquin Valley College Visalia, and I can confidently say that it has been an exceptional journey. From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I knew I was in for something special. The faculty and staff, including my instructor LORRAINE BALLESTEROS, known as "MS. B", My career advisor VANESSA RAGSAC, and my admissions counselor EDGAR AGUILAR, went above and beyond to make my experience truly memorable. I haven't even visited the school yet and they're already making me completely uninterested. I have been contacted by at least 6 different phone numbers to confirm that I will be showing up and enrolling. They tell you to fill out a survey prior to the visit but when you click the link it's to enroll you in the school. At this point it's harassment and not to mention the fact that I did confirm it already with them but still they won't stop calling and leaving voicemails for me to enroll before coming. read more

I started this trade school with high hopes for my future, but my experience was nothing short of disheartening within the first week. I was told I was going to get a FULL hands-on experience from the classroom to the labs but with one stupid decision from some guy sitting in their corporate office, they made a sudden change that they want to implement a hybrid system that doesn't work for all students and without warning nor consideration/feedback from the student who keeps the lights on and their jobs available. The administration is more interested in collecting tuition than genuinely supporting its students. Communication is a joke--they don't care about our feedback or concerns. They will sit there and tell you they want you to succeed in their classrooms and they are there for you, but turns out that after 1 week, they just want your money because switching to 2 days doesn't allow for a student to absorb all the information they need. They want us to come in on that 2 days and be hands-on, wiring up something based on some video that was assigned on the day that we were not in school with an instructor to walk us through what the lab would be about because they do not want us too to do "busy work". In my opinion, busy work leads to student success in the long run. It's about not taking shortcuts, which they are willing to do just to get double the students and money. The class president often preaches about prioritizing student success, but it feels like a facade. There's a palpable disconnect, they seem to choose to ignore the growing frustration among students. Today, Meetings intended for our voices to be heard often feel like a waste of time, with the corporate run-around. If they were there for the students as much as they say they are why not choose to be different from the rest of the schools who are implementing this dumb schedule, why be scared to put your hands in the fire for the students who don't agree with schedule change many already sacrifice time to be there and have accepted it. Because if we were looking for this type of schedule, there is another school that does it for cheaper. It's incredibly disheartening to see such a lack of support in a place that should be fostering growth and success. If you're considering this school, I would advise looking elsewhere. Ultimately, they seem more committed to profit than to the success of their students. Save your time and money! read more

Used to be a five star school, but now since they are implementing their new "hybrid program" where students only go TWICE a week instead of 4 days. 2 days in class and 2 days at home doing bull. HANDS ON LEARNING was the main thing that separated SJVC from other BS trade schools like UTI, it's ALL hands on. Nope not anymore, they cheaped out and conformed just like all the other programs out there. More students passing = more money which is clearly all they care about. Don't waste your money on this school it's a scam. Used to be great but now it's going to shit. Mind you they implemented this program OUT OF NOWHERE. My son enrolled here for the electrician program. Came time to receive their T Cards and my son did not get his. He asked and they said oh we applied for you let us check. Never heard anything, he graduated still no T Card. Went to the school several times and called and spoke to different people each time and not one person can tell him where his T Card is nor has he gotten it and he graduated last year. No one returns his calls and you would think as much money as we have to pay out of pocket they would at least make sure their students received all their documents to work. read more

I joined the MA program and it was fantastic. Finished in 9 months... everything was hands on. There was one professor that was very unprofessional, her name was Mrs. Jessica. (Hopefully she doesn't work there anymore). I finished in February of 2024. But she decided to read my confidential email out loud to the class when I wasn't there for class and then accused me of not coming in because I was probably hungover and drinking (I do NOT DRINK). But... Mrs Perez and Mr Moriarty were the BEST professors. They were so fun to learn with and they made everything so easy to learn. Now I'm a great MA at a very busy clinic!! read more

I've been attending SJVC for 8 months now in the electrical trades. It didn't take long until I felt like I was a part of a family. It's not uncommon to see new students walk into the school by themselves on their first day and a week later see those same students walk in as groups. This type of atmosphere is encouraged here. The instructors are not just people that teach. They are people that have been in the trades for many years and bring a wealth of real world knowledge. They bring a lot more to the table then someone that just has head knowledge. These instructors actually care about the success of their students. I attended this school for medical assisting. Sounded great when I signed up, I inquired right off the bat about my tattoos and if they'd be an issue and was told absolutely not. (Have my knuckles tattooed, anything else could easily be covered.) When I started school the whole thing was an entire clusterfuck. No lie. Half the laptops didn't work. Wifi wasn't working. Aaaaaand then all of a sudden the dean had an issue with my tattoos, surprise surprise. I had to either cover them with band-aids, makeup, or wear gloves. Seriously? Strangely another girl in my class had a rather large tattoo on her forearm and she didn't even wear sleeves to cover it up but that was "ok, and we aren't discussing another student with you." That was the answer I got. I was forced to go to tutoring even though I had good grades, and was told I could come in regular clothing, only to be sent home for not coming in my scrubs uniform, then they claimed I never showed up. I had to wear my waist length hair tied back but three other girls in my class had their hair down. All very strange. Lotta lotta double standards. I ended up quitting and then my MA teacher (male) emailed me pix of his junk (genitals) randomly one day. Good times good times. read more

Horrible school. I have yet to find anyone that has anything positive to say. The instructors for the program are not teachers. Your paying a huge amt of money for nothing. This school needs to be investigated. I'm currently in a program and our entire class feels the same. We're thankfully almost done but now we are forced to meet on our of to study for the national exam because of the lack of prep from the instructor. I've talked to other students in different medical programs and they feel it's the same with them. I've reached out for an evaluation on tuition because of the lack of instruction and they just avoid it. Really nothing positive to say at all. They are just here to make money. Please do research on other schools before making a decision. I so badly wanted to love this school. But time and time again they have proven to not be worth the time and money. Let's start with the Pros because that's a shorter list. Pros: Anne Jones is always there to help if you need it. She will make it a point to come and find you if you are falling behind in a class and she will always take the time to listen to you and help in any way possible. Mrs. Moriarity is the dean of students, and she really is there to help the students when needed. She will listen and she will try to take care of the issues we as students would bring up. She's very approachable, and really shows that she cares. Cons: The app/website that is used for classes is always having issues, WiFi is awful and would interfere with our class time. The financial services people will say one thing to you and then come back to tell you something else. Nothing is ever consistent when it comes to getting their money. They expect you to put your work life on hold when it's time for clinicals. Got kids? Forget it. Don't even bother. Because god forbid you are a single parent with no family to help because that's not going to fly when you start your clinicals. Because you will more than likely get sent to a site that's over an hour away from your home and are expected to be there by 6:30am (when schools and childcare don't open until 6-6:30 am anyway) for morning huddles. Why they would send someone over an hour away from their home in the first place is insane because the goal is to "get hired from your extern site" right out of school... why would I want to be hired at a place that is that far?? The instructors that get hired are usually "friends" or past coworkers of the program directors and aren't looked into in depth. Had they have done better with looking into them then maybe our class wouldn't have been sexually harassed as well as other classes before ours. At one point our class didn't have a teacher and only had the program director, and since the instructor that was harassing most of us was too concerned with socializing and hitting on all of the women during our lab and class times, we ended up starting completely over and not getting the education that we are paying for. After they finally found someone to fill the position, they threw her in with little training on the system and how the grading works. So most of our class time was spent socializing more, and just listening to the teacher read off the PowerPoints which I could do at home by myself. I'll leave the cons at that. I can go on all day about how many issues they have. But I think those paint the picture for you. Please research all the schools in the area before deciding on this school. For the insane amount of tuition, the education received is NOT worth it at all. read more

Attended this school in Temecula for the Electrical program. When I signed up, they told me I can work in the field while in school with a T card. But what they didn't tell me that they won't do the application until almost the end of the program. I found out that with the DIR, I could get the card as long as I pay and show proof of enrollment. Hi my experience with Sjvc has been so far phenomenal. Not only is my instructor well experienced in many fields while maintaining a humble demeanor to create a good idea of how to go into the industry but the environment is also amazing, feels like a family completely different to how a high school is, we're encouraged to work together with our classmates it's been going so well that my instructor told me at the end of my first module that "you've matured since starting this course and if once you've finished the whole course if your ever interested in the future I'd write a recommendation and help you possible get a job teaching here" that by far was one of the most amazing moments so far in my education and makes me excited for the future. read more

This school truly changed my life for the better. First things first, their academic advisors are some of the most supportive people i've ever come across in my academic career. Germaine was always there for me throughout my schooling, and I always feel confident confiding in her. I attended UCR for 3 years prior to attending SJVC, and it has been a complete opposite experience to the lack of support I was receiving through the UC system. UCR was a nightmare for me and killed all of my academic motivation. After making the decision to enroll in SJVC's Electrical Technology program, my success as an individual and a leader has taken off. I have a full time salary job in the field, no student loan debt, and all of the certifications I need to start my career in the electrical field. If you're on the fence about enrolling, take the time to tour the school and talk to staff/students. I spoke to almost every student that toured the ET program while I was there, and I was more than happy to give them all the insight I could and help with making their decision. You will never have to struggle alone at SJVC. I can't speak for every program or every class, but in my experience, every single person i've met here was willing to work together and achieve great things. The collaboration and support is immense at this school, and i'm grateful for all that i've accomplished because of my time at SJVC Temecula. read more

The experience at this school has provided me with a great number of skills and knowledge in the electrical field. The staff and instructors have given me the tools to further my career goals. I hope to elevate myself in the field of electrical technology in the years to come. I started my courses during covid, but was able to be on campus for much of the lab work for most of the year. My only complaint was regarding the PLC portion of the program. The introduction to PLCs just didn't seem to cover the topic in very good detail. I'm a March 2020 graduate of the Dental Assistant program. I can't say enough about all the staff and instructors for the program here. There's 6 instructors for the program, all with there own personal experiences in the dental field, which show through during there teaching/lectures. Sometimes you have to change how you do things in each course because one teacher prefers it different.. don't get frustrated over this! It's actually helpful when you go into your externship. You should want to learn any and all ways to do things because your office might do it a specific way! It's unfortunate that we ended the 11 months right when the corona virus pandemic hit, because were at a standstill. Yes we're dental assistants, but we're not registered with the state, because the test center is shut down.. some places hire just DA's, but most prefer your RDA. This isn't the schools fault, just sharing my experience, post grad. Even though this is all going on, I still get a weekly call from our exit counselor (Ashley) who lets us know about job opportunities that suit our wants in the dental field. I'm sure she has a ton of people to keep track of, so the fact that she's calls me and knows what I am looking for and offers those jobs, is awesome. I'm hoping once this COVID crisis clears up, and we get registered with the state, that getting a job will be much easier! All in all though, I'm really happy with my decision to take the leap and do the DA program. I knew it would be tough, 4x a week, with a job and two small kids, and let me tell you it was TOUGH! But I did it. Passed every course and completed my externship on time for graduation. If you're unsure about the program or the school in general, just sign up to get more information. They will call you, get an "interview" set up, which is just them going over the program, costs etc. you're not obligated to join or sign anything! I didn't. I came in this school hoping to get ahead of other people in the electrical field. All I can say is I don't have the job in the field. I didn't get the education I paid for, and I'm in $13,000 in debt. This campus constantly deletes their google account for the negative reviews so that's why I'm on yelp. Go to the union you'll save money and be better off. Be carefully with this place they just want your money. To respond to the comment from a person from SJVC. I left a comment earlier today on google and the reason being is that a previous one had also went away. Not even a few hours later the campus has no reviews. So now that I have finished school and finally got myself a job, I feel comfortable making this review. This is going to be a review of the pharmacy program and I'm going to tell you all the things I wish I would have known before signing up. So, the program took me 9 months to complete, it is possible to complete it in 8 but it all depends on when you sign up. I started December 2018 and there is winter vacation that lasts about 3 weeks, but if you start after December or end before December you might be able to pull it off in 8 months because winter break is the only break you get at SJVC. I don't remember exactly how many classes there are but I know there are about 6 or 7 "modules," also referred to as mods, that last 5 weeks. Unless they change it, the schedule is Mon-Thu 11am-5pm. There is a break midway through and if the mod has 2 classes you have one class before the break and then a different class right after. If it is just one class you take a break and resume what you were doing before the break. Now this won't be the same for other programs, the pharmacy tech program at this school is just very small. There is only one class for it, but if you sign up for a different program it will be different. After you are done with all in-class modules you go out on an externship at a retail pharmacy or hospital. You need to put in 120 hours. Depending on where you go and your own availability you can get it done in 3-5 weeks. They have graduation ceremonies twice a year, one in January and one in July, your finish date determines which one you attend. You will be given an opportunity to take the PTCE (Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam.) This is a national exam that is not required for California, but it looks really good on a resume when you start applying for jobs. When you are done with your mods and externship, then you will have to wait for your certificate from the school to apply for your license. Luckily for me I was able to apply for my license with my national certification before school even ended because I have yet to receive my certification from the school and I finished in August 2019. If you are reading this you won't be so lucky to be able to do that because the pharmacy board in CA has changed the rules so you have to complete school before you apply for a license and not just take the national exam and apply with that. So, you might have to really push to get that certificate from the school so you can apply for your state license asap. I know for others it took 3-4 weeks to get their school cert. Now you are going to want to get that cert asap because after you apply for your license it can take 6-8 weeks for that to come in. But that also depends on the time of year you apply for it, if you apply in the second half of the year its almost a guarantee that you will wait 8 weeks. With that being said if you are going to be using financial aid you are expected to start paying it off within 6 months of graduating and with it possibly being 3 months of waiting before you can even apply for a pharmacy tech position it is really important when the time comes to be proactive in the job search to make sure you can start paying it in time. Some people do get hired from the place they extern, but not everyone. I didn't. But one of the greatest things SJVC offers is career services. When you do finish school, you get assigned an advisor and they help you find a job. They go out and drop off your resume to people, they call different pharmacies to see if they have openings and they follow up with jobs you have applied to yourself. It was extremely helpful and not only did it make me not feel so alone in the process, career services is the reason I have my job. SJVC is the kind of school where you get what you put into it. To be honest it doesn't take that much effort to "get through it" and to pass the pharmacy program, but if you are lazy it will only hurt you in the end. If you really want to be prepared you need to put in the effort and not just skate by. I feel like the hands-on training is very useful in preparing you for a job as a pharmacy tech as long as you make sure you are truly participating and taking it all in as best you can. The only thing you don't experience too much is how fast paced the pharmacy really is. Aside from "mock pharmacy" days you don't really practice speed. (Mock pharmacy days is when the class sets up pretend pharmacies and the rest of the programs participate by getting their "prescriptions" filled) I would say if you already have a fast-paced job that it probably won't be that much of an adjustment for you. All in all, I really enjoyed my experience at SJVC and would suggest to anyone trying to better their lives by finding a career. The pharmacy tech teacher is amazing and really knows her stuff. She is really sweet and willing to help you however she can. The rest of the staff is really cool too, don't have a single person to complain about. read more

After a career in the USMC, as well as having pursued a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice (12 credits short... VA reasons), I switched gears and decided on a new avenue. As I'm only in my third MOD (class), I can't speak for the whole process, but what I have been able to ascertain is; 1) SJVC staff are professional and have a desire to see YOU succed 2) SJVC student body comprises members from ALL facets of SoCal (and beyond) society, each one bringing new and interesting perspectives to class 3) LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION It's the right school for me and my family, at this point in our lives.. maybe it'll fit you too. read more

I stared at SJVC Temecula school for Pharmacy Technician, all my classes have been online learning due to COVID-19 my experience so far has been amazing I haven't had any in class learning yet but I know the staff is working hard to make this happen soon, all the teacher I have had have all been so great in this new at home learning the teacherS are always there to help, I struggled a lot at first but I got through it. I attended school at the Temecula campus. I have a whole list of things.. first, it starts with the financial aid department. Grace is incompetent, rude, and needs to be replaced immediately. She told me at enrollment that because I enrolled in December 2015 I would need to use my 2016 / 2017 fafsa as well. "We will schedule a time to file that" I never heard from her again. I was on campus four days a week, four hours a day for seven months and I never heard from her. Now that I am graduated I am hearing from the corporate accounting department that my account is about to go to collections. I call Grace, her response "that's your responsibility, not mine" Second, I enrolled at 28 weeks gestation with my second baby. I spoke with my counselor, the dean of admissions, the head teacher in my courses and everyone seemed excited and said they would work with me when I had my baby. When I in fact did have my baby on Saturday, April 16 I was notified by the school, and by the DA admin that I would be expelled if I did not return to school the following Monday (April 25). Toward the end of my program another class mate was burned in a fire accident. She was allowed 2 weeks to recover. I wasn't even allowed 3 days before the school called my phone multiple times explaining their "policy" on attendance and exceptions were not to be made even though I had a baby. After they refused my baby bonding rights, I was approached by a fellow class mate a few weeks later. The female was irrational and threatened me, threw her hands in my face in a motion to physically punch me in front of our class of 12 students. I brought this to the attention of the dean of student services, my teachers, my counselor and they told me repeatedly "worry about yourself" in those exact words. That entire school is a mess. If you work there you'll be assumed to be immoral and unethical because that is how that campus seems to be run. DO NOT GO TO THAT SCHOOL!!!! Do your research and seek other options!!! If you have to go to a different campus to get a different experience do so please! CAUTION THEY ARE OUT FOR YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!! read more
