I travel to NI about 3-4 times a year, and rent at Belfast International each time. This was my first time using Sixt.
At collection of the vehicle I was treated exceptionally poorly by the colleague I spoke to, was forced to pay excessive charges which are neither stipulated or supported by the terms and conditions, and in the end could only be served by the manager as the colleague had by this stage decided my only alternative was to go to another rental agency and wouldn't serve me.
I had paid in advance, and with the reduced excess amount included. At the counter I presented my multiple forms of identification, but the employee would not accept the use of my credit card via Apple Pay. He further refused to accept a credit card in the name of the other named driver, citing it could only be me who paid, and on the original card, using a pin code. He insisted that I pay an additional £110 on top of my original booking doubling it) and when I told him this was excessive he told me I was welcome to go to another rental agency.
When the manager finally intervened and served me I was told there were none of my class of vehicle available, I was offered a higher grade. When I asked if I could simply have a smaller car and pay less he told me this would count as a new rental, and I'd have to pay in full again.
Found out afterwards I was also charged in Euros, and so had an exchange fee added to convert to Sterling!
Given this agency is outside the terminal building, you have to cross a busy road to get to the building, the staff are poorly trained, and they want to charge you far anything they think they can get away with, I'd recommend you rent with a Enterprise, or Europecar, who are inside the terminal building, and were incredibly helpful the each time I rented from them. read more
