One of the local ladies I met during my meeting in Glasgow suggested that I try Six by Nico if I had the chance. Even though it sounded intimidating, my friend is a huge foodie so we decided to try it. I am so glad we did! It was super lovely! The service was thoughtful and helpful, the decor was gorgeous, and we had such a great time.
The menu was £39, plus an additional charge for the snack.
My friend and I shared the snack - a black pudding Scotch egg and bread with shellfish butter. So, the shellfish butter was dark, dark, dark grey. I didn't taste anything other butter, but my friend said she got a slight fishy note. Meanwhile, the black pudding scotch egg was pretty damn good. I'm kind of afraid of blank pudding, but it was super tasty and the pickled veg and aioli it was with were a perfect pair.
Then it was on to the courses...
1 - Chips & Cheese - potato terrine with Parmesan soup. Oh my god this was so delicious. Perfect little fried potato plus cheesy soup with a hint of curry. Yum!
2 - Scampi - basically a tiny fish stick. It was stupendous and the dill emulsion was wonderful! I would have liked an entire plate of these.
3 - Steak Pie - slow cooked beef with the most wonderful (and only) mushroom duxelle I've ever had. It was delicious. If you like mushrooms, this will be the highlight of the meal.
4 - Fish Supper - nicely cooked white fish with a pickled mussel, a curry oil, and a great emulsion. I didn't taste the beer but it was still great.
5 - Smoked Sausage - pork three ways. More blood pudding (still damn good, especially with the sauerkraut), pork belly (amazingly good, especially dipped in whatever sauce was on that plate), and some other thing that was also tasty.
6 - Fried Mar Bar - so the chocolate pave was super lovely and the Irnbru sorbet was refreshing and light. The only thing I didn't love was the actual deep fried Mars bar, which is kind of ironic. read more
