Don't bother. I hired W&R in August of 2015 for a financial plan. In March, I finally gave up and…read morerequested my $300 back because I still didn't have a usable plan. The first advisor I was assigned to was inexperienced and not mature enough to admit when he made mistakes. He diregarded my input, left important parts out of the plan he created for me, had math errors and did not have the grace to own his errors or correct them. In fact, he told me one mistake was my fault and stuck with that story even after I pointed out where I had given him the info he said he didn't have. Not someone I'd want to handle my money! I asked for a refund or a new pairing. The second advisor I was assigned to had a great presence and a good grasp of what I wanted. I liked the guy and felt relieved that maybe, after all these months of waiting, I'd get a good plan and get back on track. Sadly, it took a ton of calls and e-mails to get follow up from him. The plan he created looked good and I left pleace. When I got home, I realized a significant calculation had been left out. No problem, I e-mailed him the details and asked for follow up. 6 weeks and a reminder later, I still didn't have that nor had he prepared the forms to move my IRA to them as he'd told me he would. Blessing in disguise! I finally asked for a refund. This was literally over 6 months after I'd paid for a complete financial plan, had 4-5 meetings and put a ton of energy into following up and pushing these advisors along. The refund was issued promptly and without argument, although the e-mail acknowledging it came with a statement about how I'd gotten two plans for the price of one. That made me laugh, and made it abundantly clear that the culture of being unaccountable reaches high up in this particular office. Please keep your money far from these folks. Since I still don't have the plan I hired an advisor for, if you know of a good one please do message me. I'd love to try a new firm, one that takes pride in their work and doesn't require constant prodding to deliver the work they promise.

While I made a modest amount of money with them, I came to know them as dishonest, calculating and interested in only one thing: Finding ways in which they could maximize their fees and profits without regard to what was best for their clients. At the time. I was in my early forties. Ken and Donna incessantly and relentlessly pushed their variable annuities - a collection of complicated investments (mainly from American Skandia) with a built-in insurance policy (that no one needs) coupled with very hidden high fees. The investments of these annuities were good, in and of themselves, but the structure of these investments were built solely to make clients think they were getting a great deal when in reality, the selling agent was skimming a lot of money in commissions and fees. When they were confronted with why they were selling a 42 year-old a fixed income annuity designed for older people, they said there was a misunderstanding. Luckily, I 1035ed (IRS Form 1035) my annuities back to cash without any loss or exit fees and as mentioned, transferred all assets from Carter & Carter. They never challenged my exit because they knew I saw right through them. I have had self-managed accounts ever since. It works for me and I love investing. But if you really want an investment advisor (and there are many good ones out there), look at the character of the individual. That is more important than anything.
