Was visiting from out of town and stopped in to set up an appointment for a cut color. Super friendly and helpful staff. A few days later I got my cut and color from Cathy. She is a wonderful stylist. She is a perfectionist and so precise. The color was perfect. Aoife was a delight as well. I'll definitely be going back when I'm visiting Dublin again. read more

Mark is amazing, talked me through every step and gave me an incredible color. Highly recommend.

Three weeks ago I got my hair cut here and I'm still conflicted about how to rate it. I asked for someone who knew what to do with waves and curls. Was booked with the top stylist, to my wallet's chagrin. Tuesday they told me "tomorrow," but when I came in on Wednesday they said they had me booked for Thursday. They even sent me a robo-text message asking me to confirm, and had I checked the date on it, I would have seen their mistake. But in my excitement for the haircut, I didn't, and walked in on Wednesday! Mark still started with me, thoroughly discussing my options, weighing my hair, coming up with three totally different suggestions until eventually we came to a compromise. Criteria: A. must be thinned out loads to keep me cool in West African heat. B. must make the most of wavy hair. C. should be no longer than my chin. He talked me into a half-and-half between what he wanted and what I wanted. Then he took me downstairs to get my hair washed by the assistant. As I was getting my hair washed, his "real" Weds appointment showed up. The assistant gave me a deep conditioning treatment and a bit of a scalp massage while Mark coloured this lady's hair, and promised me he'd be back in "ten minutes." I was only out of the chair half an hour later. You know, I would have been fine with coming back on Thursday. At any rate, the haircut continued. Mark made light conversation which was nice - the typical hairdresser stuff I recognize from the States. Where was I from, why was I moving to Ghana, what was my life like, etc, etc. In the end I came out with a haircut that's pretty great. It's totally different from anything I've ever had, and I wouldn't have trusted other hairdressers to do something the way Mark described it! Does it fit the criteria? A. It's impossible to stay cool when it's 30+ degrees outside. This haircut, however, goes far. B. My curls look gorgeous- he even managed to get the super-straight part to curl! C. Yes, it is short enough. He gave me some good tips on hair care. Like, that wavy-hairers pretty much never need to shampoo. True Story! Also, he told me I needed one hair product only, not the three I was using. End of the story: I like the haircut, it's flattering to my looks and to my hair, and they did fit me in on a day when I wasn't in their books. However, I would have appreciated not waiting half an hour without being told. Also, all stylists but the top one offer student discounts, so no joy for me with my li'l card. In total I'll offer them 3.8 stars. Deductions for waiting time, clerical error, and lack of student discount. read more

The streets looping around the back of the Powerscourt Townhouse are where you'll find Dublin's best and most expensive hairdressers and beauty salons. Located on the Corner of Fade Street and Drury Street, SitStil is one of the most popular of these hair salons. The decor is very French, with lots of white and powder blue on the walls, huge gilded mirrors and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The point that struck me first about this place is that unlike most "conveyor-belt" salons that rush you in and out, with the hairdressers running between clients cutting several people's hair at a time, SitStil allocate a full 60 minutes for each appointment. The stylist will discuss with you what you would like done and make recommendations before your hair is washed, which is crucial to getting a good result that you can replicate at home after the first wash. Prices are high but average for the area, with a simple wash cut and blow dry coming in between €60-90. read more

SitStil - Hair Salons Near Me - Dublin, D

This was the absolute worst experience I've ever had at a hairdresser's. I've been getting my hair dyed professionally for 18 years and have never been treated so badly nor had such appalling results as I had at SitStil. I chose SitStil based on the good reviews here and I chose to go to Mark, the owner, thinking he would be the best. First of all the place itself is not "shabby-chic". It's just shabby. I felt so uncomfortable the whole time I was there. The sinks are especially uncomfortable and the girl washing my hair told my that's because the neck-rests keep falling off. She picked one off the floor and reattached it mid-wash! I had water down my neck when I got my hair rinsed and came home with dye on my face. I normally get balayage at another salon but had decided to treat myself here as I would be attending my friend's wedding. I asked for warm blonde colours (I mentioned golden blonde, copper blonde, etc. and specified no ash blonde). I even chose a picture of the colour I wanted, just to be sure. After three very unpleasant hours, during which I felt most unwelcome, I saw the result. My hair was now mostly brown with a few light blonde stripes. I told Mark that I wasn't happy. He suggested looking at the photo again and agreed that it was not right so he asked me to return the next day to have it fixed. I had a very busy week and little free time but I agreed as I needed it fixed before the wedding that weekend. I returned the next day. Mark was not friendly and very quickly reiterated that he would put golden blonde shades through the end. Again a few hours later, after a very rough blow-dry, I saw the result. He had actually made it worse. My hair is now brown on top with bright (almost white) blonde at the ends, two inexplicable stripes on one side of my head (which stop abruptly about two inches from the top) and two hideous stripes of blonde in front of each ear (I had actually asked him to fix these on my second visit, but he ignored my wishes). He then asked if I was happy. I smiled sheepishly and said "well, it's still not what I asked for but I don't have time to fix it now". He angrily picked up a strand of my hair and asked "what colour do you call that?". I told him it was a very bright blonde, not warm or golden. He responded "I'm stumped. I don't know what to say to you." and walked away.I was left sitting in my chair, wearing the protective gown, not knowing if he was coming back. I then saw him talking to another client and so I made my way to the till and asked for the gown to be removed. The young man checked the price with Mark and charged me €190! Mark never said thank you or goodbye. I told the young man (Anthony?) how upset I was at Mark's rudeness. He said he would pass this on and he was sure that Mark would phone me to discuss it. He didn't. I left there feeling shaky and on the verge of tears.I felt like I'd just been mugged. My hair was ruined, Mark had been horribly rude and I'd been charged almost €200. I felt so upset and humiliated. I ended up tying up my hair at my friend's wedding to try to hide the awful colour job. As soon as I can afford to get it fixed (and my hair can handle more dye) I will go elsewhere. Another hairdresser confirmed with me that the shades he put in my hair are "so bright they're almost white. Not golden blonde." She couldn't understand what he was trying to achieve with the random stripes either. Overall...AVOID SITSTIL LIKE THE PLAGUE! Mark is one of the most unpleasant people I've ever met. He took a large sum of my money to ruin my hair, display appalling customer service and behave like a petulant child. read more

After doing a lot of research about hairdressers in Dublin, I booked an appointment with Mark for a cut and to color my tips for the first time. Like a lot of people, I'm always nervous with new hairdressers and today wasn't any different. Luckily, everyone was really friendly and helpful, Mark put me at ease straight away and he made a huge effort to grasp the concept I wanted. The area downstairs where the shampoos are done is like a spa, the lights are dimmed, the chairs are leaned back, feet up. I definitely could've fallen asleep. I guess it is a bit pricey but as they say, you get what you pay for. read more

Coming at this from a full head of blonde highlights point of view. Top marks. Honestly . .these guys are not your usual "where are you going on holidays" kind of guys. They also don't just decide they know best and go rogue on your hair. They really listened to what it was I was trying to achieve and told me in the nicest possible way that it wasn't achievable on that same day (due to my hair being dyed brown by other hairdresser). Mark . .the owner . .quiet and sincere . .said . .listen . .I know what it is you're trying to achieve . .bear with us ok? It took 2 visits but my hair was exactly what I wanted. Blonde highlights that looked natural. And they maintained it. Honestly . .5 years later I was phoning for appointments from Hong Kong during my holidays back in Dublin. Nicest guys . .they looked after me during both my pregnancies without shouting it from the rooftops. If you're looking for real talent, real people who do what you ask . .and zero B.S . .then book Sit Stil. read more

Jake is amazing!!! Love the salon. Sweet and quiet and no pretence. Just talent.

The last time I got my haircut here was a year ago. I'm due for another hair cut but for some reason I'm not going back to sitstil. The service wasn't really good compare to other hairdresser around Dublin. The staff mostly talk to each other more then to the csutomers. Personally I think the price is quite high for the service you`re getting . read more

I was really looking forward to this hair salon experience after reading reviews online. I wanted to change the tone of my hair. I decided to go to Mark as I figured a senior stylist would listen to me and know how best to achieve the look I was after. I was wrong. Mark did not listen to me, he did not hear what I told him I'd like to do with my hair. He did what he wanted and my hair did not turn out anything like the pictures I'd shown him. This was after being in the salon for 8 hours, during which he tended to other customers while they came and left, flitting back and forth between them and me. He agreed to have me come back the following week to fix the horrible dye job he'd given me. This was another 6 hours in his salon, still to end up with a hair color that I don't like (although somewhat improved from his previous work). He made me feel uncomfortable being unhappy with his work and I did not feel I could tell him that it still wasn't anything like what I'd originally asked for. AND he charged me 300euro! Of note, the other staff at the salon were very friendly and kind. In hindsight, I wish I had gone to see one of his stylists in training as I'm sure they would have listened to me from the beginning. I would not go back to Mark and I would not recommend his services to anyone. I preferred my hair color before I went to SitStil and there's no going back in time. read more

Really disappointed with the staff, service and overall hygiene of the salon considering how much they charge. I went based on the reviews but after a truly terrible experience I think they definitely got the staff to write these themselves. The girl in charge of my colour didn't listen to a word I said and just plonked a very dark dye all over my head even though I told her that dark hair didn't suit me and I would prefer a light brown (most of this dye ended up on my forehead and neck rather than on my actual hair by the way). The girl who washed my hair was more interested in chatting about herself to other members of staff rather than concentrating on her job so she left a lot of residue from the dye. When I asked her to wash it again, she mumbled something to another hairdresser and then proceeded to splash some water over my head in a very rough manner. When I went upstairs to get the "complementary" blow out as I couldn't afford to pay the extra 30 euro for a blow-dry! I saw the girl who washed my hair and the girl in charge of my colour huddled in a corner whispering but as soon as they saw me they went quiet. When I sat down, I looked in the mirror and saw just how bad my hair was. I had dye all over my forehead, ears and neck and my hair colour just did not suit my complexion. Annoyed that she had such little respect towards a paying customer, I pointed out that she left dye all over me and asked her to remove it from but instead of apologising for being so sloppy she gave me a piece of cotton with solution on it and left me to do her job while she went over to talk to someone else. When she returned she then proceeded to brush my hair with a dirty brush that still had other people's hair it so I told her to get another one. When the ordeal was finally, I said that I wanted to speak to the manger about the service I received and the price I was being charged for such a poor job but I was dismissively told that I would have to pay the full price of 87 euro since the manager wasn't there. I am planning to go back to get a refund since my hair is still in bad condition but I just wanted to warns others not to believe some of the reviews that have praised this salon and its staff. read more

I had my haircut here by the junior stylist, I asked him to keep all the length at the front and to make a long length bob with texture in it. He seemed to get what i wanted verbally, but then he cut my hair. He seemed to go into a trance and obviously loves his job, he loves cutting hair, but what i had said went out the window. He cut a chunk out of the front which i had specifically said i didnt want to happen, and instead of an angular bob with texture, the shape now looks like a spherical helmet on my head. He did say that I could come back in and he'd fix it, but I dont think I have any trust left in this stylist to finish the job properly. Maybe this is a lesson in having a senior stylist as opposed to a junior stylist cut you hair. I love their range of joico products and this hair salon is one on the few places that sell joico, thats why i chose to get a haircut here. big mistake, Ill be waiting 2 years for my hair to get the length back in the front again. read more

I completely agree with the comments made by people who were not happy with their experience at Sitstill. Especially the comments re Mark. I arrived on time for my appointment & waited 20 minutes for Mark to finish with the previous client. Clearly in no rush he cut slowly, stopping to chat whenever the conversation got animated. He finally arrived to talk to me .. No apology. Lifted my hair disinterestedly. Back up from the hair wash it was now 40 minutes after I'd arrived (it was a fairly quiet mid week afternoon). The girl taking the booking had encouraged me to be on time "so you get the full hour with Mark" . I now had 20 minutes left. Also I had said when I arrived that I had to be gone in 1 1/2 hours which I don't think was unreasonable. Mark cut my hair for 15 minutes , then disappeared to another client for 15 minutes. When he returned I reminded him I had to go in 15 minutes, il have you out in 5 he said & he did! It was only when I got home I realised he hadn't touched either my fringe or any of my hair apart from cutting the hair on my neck & trimming the ends around my jaw. This for e100! I rang him straight away, made no complaints just that I would like a bit more taken off. Returned a few days later.. Even though I was very pleasant , I found him quite menacing & felt quite intimidated. He allocated me 15 minutes. When I examined my hair at home I could see he had taken the barest minimum off. What a waste of time and money. read more
