Sitar is amazing! We came here as a group of 3 for lunch. They have a great lunch deal which they say is served in "lunch portions" but I thought was still a good amount of food. For all their food, they ask for a spice level (I believe the options are mild, medium, and spicy). We started off with the Achari Gobi which we got as medium (I believe) and it was quite spicy! We all loved it. Each of us got a curry - Saag, tikka masala, and vindaloo. They were all great and the spice levels we requested (one mild and 2 spicy) were all very appropriate and delicious. Their naan was also delicious. Perfect mix of crispy edge and soft inside. I can't wait to go back again for lunch!

We've driven past Sitar for years and finally decided it was time to check them out! I don't know what the restaurant looked like previously inside, but I know they just renovated and it's really nice! We were adventurous and tried goat for the first time, and we thought it was delicious! The malai chicken kebab was flavorful and not dry at all. Friendly and attentive staff. Would definitely come back here!

Saag Paneer Bhindi Masala

One of my go-to Indian restaurants in New Haven! The first thing they gave us when we sat down were a few flavorful crackers with sauces as a snack and it was already off to a great start. We got my go-to orders of Bhindi Masala (a staple Indian dish made with okra, whole and ground spices, herbs, onions & tomatoes) and Saag Paneer (a popular Indian vegetarian dish made of spinach and other leafy greens (called saag) and paneer (Indian cottage cheese)) and we were very satisfied. It all came with a large side of rice. It didn't look like a lot when the food arrived, but it turned out to be a lot more than we expected. I think both dishes could have used some more spices + flavor which is why I give this place 4/5 stars, but it was still great. The two of us shared both and we even had a decent amount of leftovers to take home and enjoy later! Because of that, I found it was reasonably priced. The interior was home-y and next door, there was a even a family party going on (looked like a birthday celebration?) Would definitely come again in the future. (This place also has a lot of allergy-free options which is perfect for my other friend who is allergic to a lot, including sesame.)

This was our first time eating at the restaurant and got the lunch special. We got some vegetable samosas that we sweet & savory. My wife got the lamb vindaloo, basmati with garlic naan. She enjoyed. I got the chicken tiki masala, basmati rice and garlic naan. The chicken was tender and the sauce was good.

Amazing people who work here, I really wanted butter chicken/makhni and despite it not being on the menu I ordered from they made it for me 10/10 taste and people the food was sooo good

I have a friend that has an allergy to Canola oil and it led us to this gem of a place. Parking, like most places in New Haven, kinda stinks buuuuut there are several garages right near by. The food was great, best garlic naan I have had, the baingan bharta was extremely good as well. Staff was exceptionally friendly. 100% plan on going back!

Chicken korma with naan

Stopped in for lunch. The chicken korma and naan bread was fantastic. The lunch portion was good and so was the price. The service was speedy too. The restaurant was clean and relaxing. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in the area.

4.5 stars. Came here after touring Yale with my family and it was definitely worth it. We ordered off the lunch special menu, you can pick a sauce, a protein, and a bread (Naan, Garlic Naan, Tandoori Roti). For me, I chose the saag with paneer and garlic naan. The saag paneer was super flavorful and eating it with the garlic naan was so good. The lunch special also comes with rice and the quantity of rice you get was plenty. The vegetable samosas were also really good. Perfectly crispy on the outside, and inside is nice and fluffy and very well seasoned. They also come with three sauces, and I really enjoyed the tamarind sauce. However I do feel that the samosas were a bit expensive, $6 for 2, but the lunch special was around $13 which I think was really good value for the quality and quantity of food you get. The service was also really good; the waitress consistently checked up on us and even switched out our plates after we finished the samosas. I really appreciate how attentive our server was. Overall I would highly recommend giving this place a shot if you are ever around the area.

Good Indian buffet with ok service... We were roaming in Yale University and looking for an Indian restaurant. we saw this and had their buffet. They had a good option in appetizer and main course as well. We had salad-soup-chicken appetizers and curry. But seems staffs were not interested in the buffet. We kept asking for bread and we got it so late. Ignoring that, it was good buffet

Closest thing to the food in New Delhi. The Samosas are probably the best I've had in a long time. Excellent food and staff!

After dropping a friend off at the airport, we decided to stop here for dinner on a Thursday…read moreevening, around 6:30pm. I was asked if I made a reservation, but since this was a spur of the moment trip, I did not. They didn't have any open tables but luckily the bar was available. It was pretty spacious and not too crazy, so the seating wasn't too bad. We were just glad we could be served soon. Our waitress/bartender was super nice and quick to take our orders. I asked for a chicken tikka masala (my go-to to judge how good an Indian restaurant is) and for it to be extra hot. Often times, restaurants do not go full-on with my request, and it is medium spice level at best. My handsome fiancé got their lamb korma, in medium because he wasn't daring as I was. We also added a garlic naan and chili cheese naan. Our food came out pretty promptly. I dipped my spoon into my curry to sample the sauce. FIRE!! I knew at that moment, I was going to have a fantastic meal. The instant heat powered through every single one of my taste buds. Boy did they follow through! Finally, extra hot being actually extra hot. What made this curry so delicious is that the spice did not take away from the flavor. The subtle sweetness came through, and no signs of bitterness from the tomatoes. Huge green flag. The curry was delicious. Paired with the glistening rice and hot, fresh naan... I could not be happier. The naan was so hot and fresh, with its soft chewy texture was the perfect pair to our curries. I was having the time of my life. Really, my only complaint was the tiny cubes of chicken in it. For $29, I would have liked more substantial chunks of chicken through out the curry. Instead, I was met with perfectly squared pieces that were child friendly bite sizes. I still had so much leftover for the best day after lunch. I was stuffed with happy flavors. Our server also gave me another portion of rice for the next day. Honestly, even the small bites of chicken wasn't too bad, we had a wonderful experience. I will look forward to trips to the airport, since we won't be making the hour and a half drive otherwise! My sweetie pie of a fiancé also thoroughly enjoyed his lamb korma... especially being dipped with the chili cheese naan! Our check came out to be a little over $50.. little steep but this was a bit fancier and the cleanliness was top notch.

Great ambience and service that came only second to the food! They had excellent samosa and made…read more excellent saag and tikka paneer dishes. Lots of options. Perfect dinner stop in New Haven.

I found this place while randomly looking on DoorDash. They had a happy hour special, so I decided…read moreto check them out. If you enjoy the flavors of Indian food as well as one of those quick service, hot chicken restaurants you probably would enjoy Hot Murga. The chicken sandwich comes in five spice levels from no heat to super hot. I got the standard hot, and it has some kick, but it wasn't overpowering. Then again I enjoy spicy food. I also ordered their spiced mac & cheese. Again, not spicy at all, but flavorful. Also a good portion as I have leftovers for later. I had my food delivered, but this establishment is close to the Yale campus and street parking can be a bit tricky on Howe St. and around Broadway. I've been inside of the space once when it was a different restaurant some years ago, it's not a large space, but I'm pretty sure comfortable if you decided to dine in. If you ever find yourselves at a crossroad between wanting Chick-fil-A and Indian food, this would be a great alternative.

A fun take on fried chicken, but with "Indian" flavors. I got the Murga Sandwich (hot) and…read moreBadmaash's Mac & Cheese (medium). Honestly, I didn't think the Murga Sandwich itself had too much flavor - the fry was good and the chicken was juicy & crispy, it was just a lacking seasoning and even "hot" was not super spicy. The spice itself also tasted very one dimensional - just spicy, with no seasoning. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the sandwich itself, but would be interested in trying some of their other sauces. The Badmaash Mac & Cheese was the redeeming item of the meal though - this is basically a Mac & Cheese, covered in tikka sauce & their spicy sauce, and topped with fried chicken. It's definitely a unique flavor, and I think the tikka masala sauce went really well with the cheesy mac texture. Definitely seems like the kind of late night out comfort craving, because it is super heavy. p.s. - pro tip, the sandwich itself is $12 but the sliders are $6 and definitely larger than half of a sandwich (probably closer to 2/3rds). So I'd get 2 sliders for $12 instead of a sandwich.

I was…read morea little overwhelmed by all of the choices on the menu and decided to get an omelette for dinner. I could choose three veggies and a cheese. I picked spinach, arugula, mushrooms, and their house made queso blanco. It came with a few yummy French-fry-style roasted potatoes and one of their famous dinner rolls, which was multigrain and very hearty. Not cutting edge but all well-made and tasty. The bakery items looked amazing but I was full! So I got a piece of their carrot cake, which other customers were raving about, as well as a vegan gluten-free sunbutter cookie. I very much appreciate that they have outdoor seating! They happen to be very close to a smoke shop, so eating outside they just were a lot of people vaping or smoking as they passed. It's also a particularly hectic corner with people going to the theater or for music show. But I am planning to come back while I'm here and to try something else!

I swear that's why I've always loved tofu! And I'm mostly vegan now the past 28 years, and my mother the past 12. When Claire's first opened vegetarian restaurants weren't a thing, and over the years the menu has shifted.. but it's always good. For me it's home cooking style, comfort food.. they have their own style. This place was around before everyone was freaking out about carbs.. thank god! I never leave without a cookie and a muffin for later.. they're the best! I recently got hooked on the Sunbuttter cookie, and also enjoy the Lithuanian coffee cake muffin. Soups and salads come with the classic Claire mini loaf! A delicious buttery(is it vegan? don't know) mini loaf of bread, just as tasty as I remember it from my childhood. Their oat milk Matcha Lattes are creamy and they don't slack on the matcha. The service is always friendly and helpful. The menu accommodates vegetarians, vegans, and gluten free options as well. enjoy!
