Staying at Singer Castle is a dream come true. It starts with the private boat ride to the castle, followed by an extensive tour of the grounds, the outbuildings, the castle rooms, and many secret passages. The Royal Suite is very luxurious and romantic. The staff, Arthur, Scott, Eric, and Angel were very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. Both dinner and breakfast were served elegantly in the dining room and were filling and fun. We played games in the Smoking Room and danced in the Breakfast Nook (the most beautiful room in the castle). It was a memory we will cherish. read more

Our family took a personal boat to Singer Castle today for a guided tour. The castle is beautiful, if not a little quirkily designed. Some of the furnishings which were not original were worn and in disrepair and deserved restoration. There are many secret passages, but disappointingly they like the master suite are only accessible for viewing to overnight guests (the price of which is over $700/night). The tour and guide ....Eliza if you like the tour, Sam if you don't....left much to be desired. Tours start on the hour and ours was the hour just ahead of a scheduled Uncle Sam's Tour boat. Our guide rushed us through with no time for reading plaques, looking around or taking photos. We were finished the entire tour in under 45 min. When we stopped at the last stop on the tour to take pictures, we we summarily asked to leave as the next tour was starting. The guide's jokes mostly fell flat, and her rapid fire, sing song delivery of tour information made it next to impossible for the four hard of hearing seniors on the tour to understand her. Even when asked to slow down her delivery, she did not. She would lead the group into the next room and deliver her information before all in the group were even assembled in the room making it even more difficult to hear and understand. Once the tour was over, we returned to our boat for cold drinks and snacks before heading back. We were approached by management and asked (albeit politely) to leave the dock. The price was reasonable and the castle itself worth seeing, but better tour guide and hospitality training and even ADA training for dealing with hearing impaired guests would be a welcome addition. read more

8-14-19 We took a boat ride to Singer Castle. Long ride there and we went through Canada. Loved the ride over. The castle was awesome. We went on a 45 minute led tour. The castle was incredible. Lots of hidden passages. We weren't aloud to go through the passage ways but they did open a couple doors so we could sneak a peek. If you want a private tour of the private passages you have to rent the master suite for a night. $775 a night for two people. Someone was renting the suite the day we were there so we didn't get to see that room. This place is really impressive. I highly recommend. Might be boring after awhile for small kids. read more

The external structure is beautiful, but the staff needs to do a MUCH better job of keeping house. There were cobwebs EVERYWHERE, many of the knickknacks didn't match the era (I was prepared to see a Stephen King or Danielle Steele novel in the library), and some of the rooms were in slight disarray (um, if you're going to store circa 2005 Ikea folding chairs in the closet, shut the door). WITH THAT SAID, it was a nice way to enjoy a beautiful morning in the 1,000 Islands. read more

Quirky building. Apparently they do weddings and you can rent out most of the building for private use. There are a bunch of "secret" passageways throughout the building for staff to move around unseen. The gardens are nice, some of furnishings are a bit odd, but this house has a long history of being occupied plus the association with singer sewing machines, so they decorate and recreate rooms according to however they feel like. Some rooms are arranged historically, or to illustrate a weird hidden passageways, or in a strange way that doesn't make sense. There wasn't a grand vision when building was designed, so some things were slapped on later or removed. A good thing to check out if you're doing already boat tour or just want to spend a nice day out. read more

Singer Castle on Dark Island, is a beautiful place. Too bad the tour guide & gift shop personnel are poor ambassadors. Do not feel like we got our money's worth . Very rushed tour, no time to really look at the rooms and their contents. Tour guide said that they are instructed to keep tours moving so more time can be spent in the gift shop. The cashier was very rude & barked out at patrons just outside the door to go get back on the boat, when they were just waiting for someone inside. read more

I came here many times many years ago when I was a small child. I remember very little from my trips to Singer Castle because I was 5 & 6 years old but I do remember the staff being amazing & showing my older sister & I the secret passages (including some that they normally don't show). I remember the staff were super sweet, the castle was gorgeous! I hope to go back soon! read more

So disappointed. Our tour guide was informative, but Rush Rush Rush. I was exremely agitated, with having only seconds to even possibly take photos, if any at all. Being a photographer, that was my main purpose in going. When paying $75 for two, I expected to at least have the oppotunity to enjoy myself. We did not tour wine cellar, dungeon or tower, which was what was advertised. I felt like cattle being moved into separate containers in each room. The grounds are beautiful, but if you want leisure and enjoyment, go to Boldt Castle!!!!! The Uncle Sam Staff was polite, professional and gave informative details on different islands while going to and from Singer Castle. All in all, if you want a leisurely tour at Singer Castle, book a private one and hire a private boat to take you. read more

We toured Singer and Boldt Castles... Singer's was well worth the money vs Boldt. Our tourguide, Matt, was very knowledgable and we enjoyed learning about the history of the island and castle. While there are cobwebs around, the overall value and friendliness of staff far exceeded expectations. It's not a Disney Cinderella Castle...it's the real thing...a very old, uninhabited place with a rich history of a time long ago...and it felt as such. read more

Singer Castle is indeed a beautiful place. If you get Scott as your guide you will have a wonderful experience. He actually lives there and his knowledge of the home can't be beat. However if you get the young female kid as your guide forget it. She is knowledgeable enough but is just in a hurry to get everyone through and out the door. If you have mobility issues then she is definitely not for you. She actually started the tour before everyone from our group was even there. There were a few Senior adults among our group and they had a very difficult time keeping up. The young female tour guide ( I don't remember her name ) couldn't have cared less. She just moved along doing her thing and if you got it fine if not that's your problem. Buyer beware. read more

We mistakenly walked onto the castle grounds outside of visiting hours, but instead of informing us of our mistake and how we could gain proper entry, we were cursed at, berated, and basically treated like criminals. As an event planner I felt compelled to warn anyone thinking of having a wedding here. The island is beautiful and kept in pristine condition but the staff/president have no customer service skills what so ever. During the wedding I planned there ,the bride and groom were continually harassed about things like- when their guests had to leave,people that were smoking and or drinking in areas that were "off limits" (this became my problem as the island had no security to keep people out of these areas)and what time their event was to end. All of this was done during the actual reception-making it impossible for them to really enjoy their time with out any concerns. After setting up the entire reception I was informed by the island bridal coordinator that there were NO CANDLES allowed on the island-claiming it was part of the "contract" the bride and groom signed. Since each table had 8 candles on it I found it hard to believe this was something that was overlooked by the wedding couple-the brides mother had gone to great lengths to have these centerpieces created just for the event. I was told by the coordinator that she must have "forgot to point it out to them" and would allow them "just this once"( I told her that I would not eliminate them at the last min. and it was too bad she dropped the ball on the rule but I would not budge on the issue!)Read your contract carefully and be aware of what else may be happening on the island during your event. There were public tours running during the reception and also other people using the island the same day. I believe that due to the other booking the wedding was rushed out to accomidate the "more important" booking that I am sure was paying the island more money for use of the castle. I have never seen a venue actually interrupt a bride and groom as much as these people did during the most important day of their lives-The staff at Singer Island was only concerned about getting the guests off the island as soon as possible ,even if it meant cutting the reception short. Tom Weldon the general manager has no people skills and is only concerned about "his island" (as he made it clear to us over and over that it was HIS island) and not at all interested in being courteous or accomodating to the bride and groom. In my opinion Singer Island is not equiped professionally to execute any wedding over 50 people. If you are looking for a venue that will argue and insult band members,event planners, and family members then Singer Island is the place for you-otherwise be very leary of booking your event at this location. In the end the Groom left very unhappy after spending his last moments on the island arguing with Singer Island staff and demanding to see the contract for the event (a very vague contract). Again I must say proceed with much caution before booking any event at this venue and make sure you are clear on the contract-ask many questions and get clauses for any additions you may need! It is a shame that the staff is so incompetent because it is a beautiful place to have a wedding. I did not stay overnight there so I can not comment on the hotel accomidations but can only hope they are better than what I experienced during this wedding. I also feel I must mention the grounds keeper Scott as he was the only employee there that actually made any effort at all to make the day a sucess. The grounds were beautiful and well kept! read more
