    Saunders Farm

TL;DR: It's a farm-themed amusement park for kids by day and by night leading up to Halloween it's…read moreone of those haunted house horror screamfest experiences, lol. Saunders Farm is not a place that I would go of my own accord because It's too far outside of the city for me and I like neither farms nor horror experiences. However, I found myself going there with my husband, a friend and the friend's two kids. Overall, it was not as bad as I thought it would be, lol. We went during the day in September, so my review is of the farm-themed amusement park. General admission was $29 a person. I think they are only open September through December with it being most popular around Halloween. There were a few mazes, haunted houses that you walk through, and lots of play structures. There was also a zipline, which the kids did, but I did not. The zipline is not included in the general admission and was an additional $15 a person. They also had tractor rides, a Harvest one that was scenic and not meant to be scary and a Haunted one which had a few scares. They also had a big bouncy area like a bouncy castle but no walls or ceiling. They also had puppet shows, a theatre show and a monster parade. They have carnival games where you shoot cans, toss rings and things like that for prizes. There are no roller coasters or bumper cars. They have a few gift shops with very overpriced items. The candy store had no prices on the candy and our friend bought a few pop rocks, airheads and a lollipop for his kids and it was over $20. They have a few different places to eat as well. A few sit down restaurants and a few food court vendors where you take your food and eat at one of the picnic tables on the grounds. I had chicken tenders at "What the Cluck?" and it was $14 for 3 small chicken tenders and some fries. I was happy that the chicken tenders were real chicken breast meat and although they were small, they tasted good. The fries were nice and crispy too. The only thing I didn't like is staff dump the fries from the fryer into a large metal holding container and when customers ordered fries I saw staff grabbing the fries with their bare hands putting them into the paper containers and giving them to the customers. I'd think that would be hot and uncomfortable for staff, not to mention unhygienic for customers. The guy handling the chicken used tongs to place the chicken in the container, but fries guy bare handed it! WTF! Use some tongs or wear gloves, please. My husband got a Pogo with fries $10 at "Pogos + Poutine." This is where our friend and his kids got food as well. "Pogos + Poutine" and "What the Cluck?" have different menus but they share the same kitchen space. So their fries were handled by bare hands guy too. Overall, I think Saunders Farm is good for kids and families during the day. I can't speak to their Frightfest that happens at night. There's free parking on the grounds. It's plentiful, but not paved. (155)

This is a review for Frightfest!…read more I came on a Sunday evening with a few friends. Tickets were purchased in advance and were pricier than I thought it would be $60 each. I think if you bought them further in advance, there was a possibility to get 15% off. This was my first time visiting Saunder's farm and I was really impressed. Super scary and well-planned haunted houses! I think this would make a good night out for groups We came on a rainy and cold night and it was pretty busy. Lines for the haunted houses were between 10-45 minutes each. It was overall very organized and fun! Not for the very young (too scary) or if you have walking difficulties (it was muddy and slippery so definitely could potentially fall). Would definitely come again!

I've wanted to go there for years, but never made it. What a shame I didn't go! It's a lovely place - big and inviting, with a lovely outdoor seating area (not today though, with the damp rain and cold). They have an inside area available for wine tastings for weddings. However, there were no tastings planned today, and now that they're closing, likely never again. No bottles are open now that they're closing. To celebrate their closing, Jabulani is offering what is left of their various wines at a discount. This is what enticed us today. I look forward to enjoying the wines we chose, and we wish the owners good luck in their retirement from Jabulani. Also good luck to the new owners, when they take over.

Upon arriving, they will give you a menu of their wines. You can select six to try for free. If you want food, you have to buy a bottle (they said it has to do with laws regarding serving food since they are not a restaurant). My favorites were the Frontenac Blanc, the MCM (a red wine on the lighter and fruitier side), and the Rose. This would be a great place to hold an event such as a wedding, but you would need to reserve a year ahead of time. They said they are already booked up for all of 2018!

Our reception was cut short by 2.5 hours because the rain brought in so many mosquitos that no one could stand it. Owners are very unprofessional. Rating: I had high hopes for hosting my wedding at Chateau…read moreMille Fleurs, but unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. The picturesque scenery and elegant setup that were promised was nowhere to be seen in reality. We showed up to decorate on the day before the wedding and ended up cleaning and moving heavy furniture left from the previous wedding, which was two weeks prior. I was belittled, treated like a hired hand. Here's a breakdown of the major issues we encountered: 1. Poor Communication: Emails went unanswered for days, unprofessional visits to the venue, gaslighting, passive aggressive comments, and absolute confusion. The day of the wedding, text messages and phone calls were unanswered for a long period of time when family and friends arrived at the venue to complete setup. This lack of communication caused significant stress and uncertainty. 2. Unkept Grounds: Upon arrival, the grounds were not well-maintained. The lawn was overgrown, flower beds were neglected, the outdoor pews were full of bird droppings. There was visible debris in several areas closest to the house, and while it is a private residence as well, it is an eye sore for guests when they arrive. We were promised that the area would be cleaned up prior to the wedding. It was evident that the venue had not been properly prepared for our event. 3. Unprofessional Staff: The owners were inattentive and unprofessional. They appeared disorganized and lacked the hospitality we expected. There were delays in service, and they were outright rude to our guests. We had asked to have tent sides put up due to the extreme heat inside the tent and were met with resistance. It was evident that this was an inconvenience. The day of our wedding it was over 30 degrees outside, so you can imagine the heat inside of the tent. 4. Lack of Backup Plan: Despite being an outdoor venue, there was no adequate backup plan for inclement weather. We were met with resistance once again when asked to have the tent sides put down due to inclement weather and were told that we chose to have the sides up, so they would stay that way. Sadly, we were left scrambling to protect the venue's décor, and ourselves from the storm. This caused chaos and dampened the mood of our celebration. Not to mention we were told that they venue sprayed for mosquitos and ticks, and while I understand weather and bugs are unpredictable, however several guests had ticks on them, and we were left scrambling again due to a swarm of mosquitos. Our reception was cut short by 2.5 hours as guest ran to their cars. 5. Poor Restroom Facilities: The restroom facilities were far from acceptable. They were not cleaned properly, lacked sufficient supplies, and were told that they would come fully stocked. This was highly embarrassing and inconvenient for our guests. Overall, Chateau Mille Fleurs failed to deliver on their promises and did not provide the quality of service we were led to expect. Our wedding day is supposed to be one of the happiest days of our lives, but the numerous issues at this venue left us feeling disappointed and regretful of our choice of venue. I would not recommend this venue to anyone looking for a seamless and enjoyable wedding experience.

I was actually there for a Charity Gala put on by an organization called "Health and Charity" in support of CHEO (the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario). So this review is exclusively for this location as an event venue (not a golf course). The event I went to was held outdoors under tents and had about 300 attendees. I feel like this number was a little too much for the place to handle. Physically the space was fine, they had lots of space and we were not crammed in. However, it was other things like we were tables of 8 and they had 1 water carafe for each table and each carafe held about 2.5 glasses worth of water. This would be fine if everyone's water glasses were already filled and the carafe would just be used to top up water, but this was not the case. The water glasses were empty! Our table at least had a carafe, I saw a table next to us where their water receptacle was a large mason jar. Another thing was the women's washrooms. The one on the main floor had only 2 stalls, so there was a huge lineup. They had more washrooms upstairs (not sure how many), but most women, including myself, were in sky-high heels and so we opted not to walk up a flight of stairs. The premises did have charm. The place is a bit older and has a rustic feel to it. If you are looking for modern, this is not the place, but if you are looking for older with character, then this would be the place. The tents were great. It was really cold outside, but we were warm under the tents. The food was good. We had the roasted red pepper soup, chicken breast with mashed potatoes, red pepper, carrot and green beans in a cream sauce, and mini desserts (carrot cake, sugar pie, and Nanaimo bars). Everything was very "safe" in terms of flavours. Nothing too creative nor unusual, which I think is ideal when you are serving a large number of people with varying levels of tolerance for culinary adventure. Nothing was bland though, everything tasted very good. Staff were very pleasant and nice. One server even went to check to see if they had Earl Grey tea for me (which they didn't). There's lots of parking, but the main parking lot is small and the large spillover parking lot is not paved. My heels did not like this, lol. Please keep in mind that I am a big city girl who feels that Ottawa is too small. I like the big, bright, modern, and slightly sterile aesthetic, haha. So this place is not my cup of tea (Earl Grey, or otherwise). But I do recognize that not everyone has the same tastes that I do, and all things considered, I think they did a good job as the venue for the event. I think this place would be a great venue for a smaller event for someone looking for a small town/country feel. I mean, hey, it's a golf course and country club, and not a convention centre, right? So 4 stars for what it is.
