I'm not saying don't go. I'm just saying it's not my cup of tea. Strathmere is a lovely venue. We went with some friends to a special outdoor dinner event - Field to Plate Harvest Supper. You eat outside at a lovely, long communal table. The night we went the weather was perfect. The service was a bit slow ... they had about 100 people to serve. The food was ok ... the prawn soup starter was lovely but it was basically 3 tablespoons of broth. The salad was a bit bland. The pork belly skin was rock hard and inedible (one of my friends mistook it for bone). The dessert was very nice. Mostly I just Don't want to sit outside on a hard ass chair for 3.5 hours with people I don't know. Just not my thing. But I humour my wife and try not to make too many comments. PS - Farm-to-Table farts are devastating room clearing grenades and not to be joked about. I guess the food is too clean that my body just doesn't know how to process it?

What a beautiful place! Hali talked with us and showed us around her property. This venue is huge!…read moreIt's got a groom room, a bridal sanctuary, a beautiful picture area next to an old stone wall, gardens, parking area and a long stone path to a giant tent. Hali was so easy to talk to, she wasn't pushy or stuck up like some of the other vendors we looked at. She even made my groom at ease... and he hates people, lol. Anyway, she had a few packages to choose from, you can even customize them! I thought that was pretty cool, i also thought it was cool she took payments, or other arrangements. Hali knew so much, and, she's a papered wedding specialist. So, she offers this part of a package that offers jewelry for your bridesmaids, and they get to take them home after as gifts. Omg!! They're Swarovski crystals! They are the most beautiful colors. She has a few samples there so you can see her work. She offers hair, makeup, catering, planning and backup/interferance (lol), bar, d.j. or other artist, and a whole bunch of other things. Our wedding went off with out a hitch, i think. Hali made it happen and that's what i know! Our guests were so happy with the place, the lights, that big beautiful tent! We had the ceremony, pictures and reception there. Hali hand made a gift for us, it was so nice, it's an antique painted window! Just like the name of her venue! The price was very reasonable we found, but basically, we really liked hali and her place.

If you have been following my reviews, you should have noticed by now that I really enjoy history -…read morespecifically visiting historic sites, such as Pinhey's Point, The Keg Manor, Goulbourn Museum, and The Canadian Museum of Nature (that wonderful old castle that has such a rich history!) To that list, we can now add Manotick's Watson's Mill. I have to wonder if the current Mayor of Ottawa is a descendant of the Manotick Watsons? I have been to Manotick several times over the years, but for some odd, bizarre reason, I had never seen the mill before. I had enjoyed 2 or 3 of the local restaurants, and shopping along the main street, but managed to overlook this beautiful historic section. Isn't that typical of history? It so often gets overlooked... until you do a little digging! On this visit, I learned how the population of Manotick has exploded recently! In roughly 100 years, the population grew only a little bit, going from 400 to about 470, but in the last decade it mushroomed to over 5000 people! This particular visit to Manotick was prompted by the Christmas Craft Fair which runs for 3 consecutive weekends until December 3-4. That's really cool! I haven't seen any other fairs run for so long. Another intriguing thing about this fair is that some of the vendors are there for longer or shorter than others, so if you happened to visit on any one weekend, there would be no harm in taking another trip to Manotick to visit the fair again, as it is likely the display will be different. This event was really well run, in my opinion. There were lots of vendors and as a result, a wider variety of items to choose from. Oh, and of course, if you happen to be there early enough, you might be lucky to find fresh bread baked from Watson's Mill flour! Or you could also purchase some flour to take home to use in your own baking. It's all good! Bear in mind what other reviewers have said: the Mill itself is original and although the building does have windows - ie: it is NOT like a parking garage with wind whipping through it! - But it also does NOT have heating or running water inside. Washrooms and heat are across the street. Wearing layers to attend winter events at this venue is a good idea. While there, I took a stroll through the memorial gardens and saw the names pressed into the sidewalks along the river of people whose lives have been lost in the wars. There's a cenotaph there that still had poppies from the local Remebrance Day celebration. Walking back to the Mill, I got a glimpse of the rushing waters behind the mill, and took photos. Manotick really is a lovely village! I highly recommend visiting this site in different seasons. The Mill itself does run in the summer, and you can learn about how flour is made.

My friend, who was my professor during my undergraduate years, recommended visiting Watson's Mill…read more I took his advice and had a good, educational experience. The mill is in Manotick, which is a quaint, picturesque town just shy of Ottawa. This mill played an important part in the grain and seed industry years past. You can learn about the grain process and go up all three floors. It does get cold, so bundle up! Admission is free. However, I made a small donation. I also bought some lollipops at the gift store, because it is who I am. Across the street is Dickinson House, where the co-builder and mayor lived. I'd also recommend seeing the Rideau behind the mill. It's a beautiful site. Additionally, there is a memorial and a pathway honouring those who fought to served and protect Canada. It's done tastefully. I was moved reading the names of veterans as I walked back to the mill.

Our reception was cut short by 2.5 hours because the rain brought in so many mosquitos that no one could stand it. Owners are very unprofessional. Google reviews are mostly put in by friends and companies that are paid to be there, or other local companies trying to help out. Rating: I had high hopes for hosting my wedding at Chateau…read moreMille Fleurs, but unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. The picturesque scenery and elegant setup that were promised was nowhere to be seen in reality. We showed up to decorate on the day before the wedding and ended up cleaning and moving heavy furniture left from the previous wedding, which was two weeks prior. I was belittled, treated like a hired hand. Here's a breakdown of the major issues we encountered: 1. Poor Communication: Emails went unanswered for days, unprofessional visits to the venue, gaslighting, passive aggressive comments, and absolute confusion. The day of the wedding, text messages and phone calls were unanswered for a long period of time when family and friends arrived at the venue to complete setup. This lack of communication caused significant stress and uncertainty. 2. Unkept Grounds: Upon arrival, the grounds were not well-maintained. The lawn was overgrown, flower beds were neglected, the outdoor pews were full of bird droppings. There was visible debris in several areas closest to the house, and while it is a private residence as well, it is an eye sore for guests when they arrive. We were promised that the area would be cleaned up prior to the wedding. It was evident that the venue had not been properly prepared for our event. 3. Unprofessional Staff: The owners were inattentive and unprofessional. They appeared disorganized and lacked the hospitality we expected. There were delays in service, and they were outright rude to our guests. We had asked to have tent sides put up due to the extreme heat inside the tent and were met with resistance. It was evident that this was an inconvenience. The day of our wedding it was over 30 degrees outside, so you can imagine the heat inside of the tent. 4. Lack of Backup Plan: Despite being an outdoor venue, there was no adequate backup plan for inclement weather. We were met with resistance once again when asked to have the tent sides put down due to inclement weather and were told that we chose to have the sides up, so they would stay that way. Sadly, we were left scrambling to protect the venue's décor, and ourselves from the storm. This caused chaos and dampened the mood of our celebration. Not to mention we were told that they venue sprayed for mosquitos and ticks, and while I understand weather and bugs are unpredictable, however several guests had ticks on them, and we were left scrambling again due to a swarm of mosquitos. Our reception was cut short by 2.5 hours as guest ran to their cars. 5. Poor Restroom Facilities: The restroom facilities were far from acceptable. They were not cleaned properly, lacked sufficient supplies, and were told that they would come fully stocked. This was highly embarrassing and inconvenient for our guests. Overall, Chateau Mille Fleurs failed to deliver on their promises and did not provide the quality of service we were led to expect. Our wedding day is supposed to be one of the happiest days of our lives, but the numerous issues at this venue left us feeling disappointed and regretful of our choice of venue. I would not recommend this venue to anyone looking for a seamless and enjoyable wedding experience.
