UPDATE MARCH 2017 Since their move south a couple blocks to…read morethe spot across the street from the newish Mickey Finn's, Serendipity seems to have really upped their game. They are a favorite place to stop on First Fridays, when I can hardly get in the door! And the stream of new and fun fashions and accessories is non-stop. Service is friendly and personal, too. Still one of my favorite stops. This is like shopping in a dear friend's great closet. Although the store is tiny, the variety always surprises me, and the service can't be beat. I find interesting items I find nowhere else, and while their prices are consistent with other stores, their sale items make them more affordable. There is even a comfortable place to sit! I have purchased tops, purses, outerwear, scarves, jewelry, and other items. Easy to miss since it is north of Casa Bonita and before the train tracks, up a couple of stairs. But with such a uniquely-vintage location and terrific items and service, it is worth the extra steps. Easy parking right in front, or in the copious parking lots around the corner on Lake Street. No I do not work for them - I am just a huge fan and want to be sure they stay in town!

Stacey was an absolute gem! My wife and I wandered into Blu Violet Boutique during spring break --…read moreand it instantly became one of those "we're-just-browsing-oh-wait-let's-buy-everything" kind of stops. Despite how busy it was, Stacey personally welcomed every guest with that kind of hospitality that makes you wonder if she's lowkey your long-lost aunt. She made the whole space feel inviting and cozy, even as she was styling, ringing up, and somehow still smiling through it all. She's the MVP of multitasking and mood-setting. Let's talk clothes -- my wife was in boutique heaven. The selection hit that magical zone of trendy and timeless, like "that dress will slay now and five years from now." She found pieces for brunch, casual Fridays, and -- no joke -- we even considered coordinating outfits for future date nights. If matching sets are the new love language, this place understood the assignment. Now for me -- the supportive husband on standby. I came fully prepared to be ignored and under-caffeinated. Instead, I got cozy seating, cold bottled water, and good vibes. I felt seen. Honestly, the only thing missing was a small men's rack so I could join in on the fashion fun. I would've gladly snagged a matching neutral-toned shacket and made it a full Instagram moment. Final verdict: Blu Violet is a vibe. It's the kind of place where your wife walks out with a glow, you feel unexpectedly refreshed, and suddenly you're googling "how to style couple outfits without looking like a prom photo." 10/10 would return -- with hopes of menswear, or at the very least a whiskey, while waiting.

I had been looking for an engagement ring for a few months and had been to about five other stores,…read moretwo of which I was seriously considering, when I happened to walk by Celine's. It looked nice but the word Custom in the title made me think expensive. I met with Celine twice to discuss what styles I did and did not like, what I could afford, etc., before I decided to purchase a ring. I received exactly what I wanted and expected-- the design we agreed upon, a slightly larger diamond than I had originally planned, and she kept it about 15% under my maximum budget. PROS: Not pushy, came in under budget, beautiful craftsmanship, quick turnaround (about 3 weeks) CONS: I'm not sure that I would have bought my ring here if this were the first or second store I went to because it didn't create much of a learning environment. The meetings were geared more toward crafting a ring as opposed to exploring the options at my disposal. It seems like the store does more business with people who purchase jewelry more often than I Rating note: I am one of those Type A, perfectionists who almost never gives five stars but I rounded up on this one because I think the other one star review is so non-representative of my experience at this store. This is a solid 4.5 star shop.

The woman scanned the item to check if it was in stock. She immediately told me that they didn't have any in stock at all. I said all right, thank you, and told her that was fine. I'm going to take a look around and see if I can exchange it for anything else. I went to the area where I originally found the skirt, and what do I see? I found another skirt - not in my size, but still... Here's the thing: she dismissed me immediately and didn't try to find another solution. It was like she was in a rush for whatever reason, even though there were hardly any customers - and it was 10:30 in the morning, mind you.

I can go in and buy a cute dress to wear out for $10. Granted, it will not be the greatest quality. The clothing here usually does not wash or wear well. But, I am okay with that because I do not really like to re-wear clothing. It is awesome when you can find some already super cheap clothing on clearance! II feel like the Vernon Hills store is the most clean and organized. The lines are not as long as other Discovery stores and the taxes are cheaper because it is Lake County! However, I feel like the Buffalo Grove store has the greatest selection of clothing. A couple Yelpers mention how there are no dressing rooms, but after coming here for a while, you kind of know your size. If it does not fit, just bring it back within 2 weeks with the tags and receipt and you will be fine!

I just don't find the quality to be on par with their prices. I think because they give off the boutique vibe, they think they can charge fancy boutique prices - and, TBH, that's just not gonna fly with me. NOW - I do go here occasionally for gifts. For example, Christmas shopping this year, I found some cute earrings - and they had a sale going, which was "Buy 1, get one half off". Ok great, so i got a couple pairs of earrings for gifts. And then I also found a cute little super-wallet (larger than a wallet but not really a purse) to give as a gift as well, and it was 20% off. So at $21 I found that a fair price. They really do have some cute things: purses (GREAT purses!), wallets, jewelry, clothing, scarves, trinkets and silly oddities, wall hangings, hats etc. They really have a wide variety of things to look at. Definitely worth checking out!! My only real negative was Xmas shopping this year - i was there 4 days before Christmas and it was absolutely pandemonium. They only had ONE PERSON checking out, and one person at the dressing room. The line was bout 15 minutes long, and 8-12 people deep. It was infuriating. Why wouldn't they schedule more people to be working at the busiest time of the year?
