Said friends cleaned up the graves, added flowers, cleaned the overgrowth to make the graves look beautiful again. To make a long story short, there were two broken vases to hold flowers. I sent an email and received no response. Weeks later I phoned and spoke with a rep at the memorial park, who I must say, was less than helpful, but she did promise to phone me with answers to my questions regarding the broken vases. A few months later, still no word about the broken vases. Today, my friends were appalled at the way the gravesites look. The flowers and vase were removed and the grass surrounding the graves are nothing but red clay. I would think twice about using this burial site, as it's obvious they little regard for the departed.

I got on my phone and Googled some nearby casket stores near the funeral home..Voila, I found Atlanta Casket Store. The owner Mr. Washington is such a delight to work with and though I don't want to see him anytime soon, I highly recommend this store if you want something nice for your loved one without breaking the bank. We also got my father's headstone from here and the price was more than fair. Let's just say he beat the competitors by 60%, even by getting my Dad's picture installed on the headstone. **Note**It's located at the sketchy end of Glenwood Rd, but Mr. Washington's prices, level of service, and the quality of his coffin and headstones made it all worthwhile.

This was hard, but the lovely couple at Plummer Funeral Home were not only accommodating but just regular folk. They were understanding of my loss and had spoke to my parent before they passed, as they wanted to be certain everything was as they planned. They were able to send faxes and provide me with all that needed for the future probate court needs. They were also not what I expected in a funeral home, they were actually homey. I felt like I was being assisted by people who respected my loss but could have been family. Thank you Plummer Funeral Home for being the least stressful part of a challenging time. We were doing a memorial elsewhere, So they worked with us on the price. I assume that they do that a lot. But my mom thought it was nice. My brother in law was there for the viewing Since none of us were up to the task. He actually volunteered to do it. It was way more than I would have asked. They were expedient with the cremation. Soon we picked up his ashes. It's hard to believe that he's gone. It's amazing how quickly life flashes. The next day we held a celebration of life At my father's favorite restaurant. The Decatur Cemetery is the oldest known publicly owned burial ground in metro Atlanta, believed to predate the city's 1823 incorporation. Rich and poor, free and slave, and yes, quite a few CSA soldiers laid to rest here. Most of the walkways are easily walkable but some are not. If you're mobility challenged, there is still quite a lot that is accessible. Military veterans, legislators, congressmen, authors and judges. Even one of the delegates to the Secession Convention. This is well worth your time to visit. Please be respectful as this is an active cemetery and there are people here encountering their own personal losses.
