First off, the young man working there didn't even greet me. When he did come to the register, I gave him a scratcher and lotto ticket to redeem. He did the lotto ticket and then scanned the scratcher and told me he didn't have enough cash to give me since they just opened, which I understood. I asked if he had at least $40 and he said yes. I went to get a drink so I could get cash back and he told me I didn't need to buy anything to get cash back. So then he told me to tap my card and didn't tell me he charged me $3.69 in addition to my cash back. I realized this after I checked my bank account. I don't know what that fee was for, but for all I know I bought him a drink. Wish I would have at least gotten a drink for that fee or been told there would be a fee. ‍ No receipt given to me either.

Horrible Ambience of Suspicion and Distrust at Aloha Liquor Store on Stewart and Gray and Lakewood…read morein Downey. The guy at the counter has always been personable but today he showed that he's just another liquor store owner who visits his prejudices upon his customers. I escorted my wife in in order to buy lottery tickets for her father. As she did that I went to the water section to perhaps make a selection but I decided against it. As I approached my wife at the counter the young guy purposefully and with intent looked down concentratedly into my white colored shopping bags. It was a focused, view he took, he was obviously trying to see inside the bags to look for merchandise he erroneously and quite foolishly suspected me of stealing. All I had in the bags were a few pieces of Rocky Mountain Chocolate candy and my wife's leftover breakfast from Ruby's Diner in the 2 small bags, as we'd been to the Citadel Outlets; we didn't buy anything else there because she took ill and we had to return early. But back to the store counter, the guy was practicing appearance-based discrimination and he was visually subtly accusing me of shoplifting. He knew it and I knew it. He resented being called out on it so his true persona surfaced. I held up my bags to him stating, "I'm not a shoplifter so don't look into my bags like that, come on." He pretended to not understand me. After I repeated myself, he angrily said, "It's MY STORE, I'll look at whatever I Want to!" I laughed, because he'd just admitted to practicing the prejudice and discrimination I'd just accused him of. He then tried ridiculing me to my wife: "Are YOU with him?" The guy isn't the kind and cool dude he pretends to be. He's just another heavily-accented liquor peddler who doesn't trust anyone and isn't afraid to show it. He thinks he can mistreat, openly discriminate against, and visit his prejudices upon cash paying American and (US veteran) customers. He told me not to come back. I wouldn't come back, trust me. Just look at my other reviews and see how other people like him have treated me and one will see that I do not suffer fools. I'm not going to spend my money at places where I'm assumed to be dishonest. And why would I want to after being accused of shoplifting? Does this guy know what's going on in this country right now? People like him and me are being openly discriminated against, and being victimized by racists and anti-ethnic prejudice...I'm a USC grad, an Army and Navy veteran, and I've worked for the District Attorney's Office...The Aloha liquor store guy thought he was going to treat me like a common store thief and discriminate against me and I wasn't going to say anything.

It felt like they were about to keep the ticket I paid for. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and raises serious trust issues. I hope the management takes steps to ensure such incidents don't happen again. I can remember hanging out there doing things with my friends to make money; sweeping the floors, stocking the drinks, taking out the trash things kids do to earn fast cash for candy and toys... The owner Mr. Lee was the kind that didn't mind the kids being around because hey cheap labor and any money he gave us would go right back to the store lol... When our schools had fundraisers he would allow us to hang out front and sell our products you know the World's Famous Chocolates when they were real candy bars not these slivers of chocolate for twice the price... My one friend had this Avocado tree in his back yard that produced a boat load more than his mom would like to have at any one time so she would ask us to see if anyone wanted them. So we would sell them out front of his store considering he didn't sell produce we were good & competitive 7 for $1 was our going rate!!! Just imagine we made good money all of which would in turn find its way in to the coffers of Mr. Lee's establishment... The Neighborhood has changed drastically since those days but the liquor store is still the same!!! Ok almost the same he has made some additions like glass around the counters probably a sign that things have changed for the worse than the better but Mr. Lee is still there with the same low prices and same work ethic...

My ex-boyfriend used to live around the block from here and his mom had a medical condition so she could never leave the house. Growing up he used to go get cigarettes for his mom with a letter that she would write . Then in high school this was a spot to get a single cigarette. I hated it when it was my turn to ask somebody to buy them for us. Man the struggle was real . Moving forward to my serious party girl phase . The liquor stores were Mandatory before a night at the club . List of preparation's of course cigarettes lighter gum and let's not forget of course alcohol for pregaming . Down the line after years of partying you realize you're a little bit more behind than everybody else. That's when the dazzle of lottery tickets set in . Remember those episodes of Roseann making you feel like everybody could win the lottery. Oh how times have changed. Now we are in the era of hot Cheetos. It's definitely becoming an epidemic as a fact two different kids from the same family had to go to the doctors because their appendix burst from eating too many flaming hot Cheetos. Can you believe this. I guess what they say is true everything in moderation. Today I went in for ice cream. It was just weird to look around and realize I really don't need anything from this store. Thank God ! I'm glad Captain Don's been there through my whole life of ups and downs .
