    Freshly made, smells so good.

I come here all the time whether to enjoy dining there enjoying people watching or taking it away. I order the paella as it's simply made to perfection. The seafood is delicious in it too. The service is always great when I am here. Consistently great taste and they deliver an award winning Paella!

Pretty standard for breakfast. Got the vegetarian breakfast with extra tomatoes instead of mushrooms. Tomatoes had a nice charred flavour but were a little undercooked and harder to cut. With breakfast I like tomatoes a little softer. Can't fault it but it wasn't exceptional either.

Spent the morning at the market looking at all the wonderful food and crafts in there. Went to Simply Spanish for lunch and had a great meal. Had the paella and Moroccan chicken salad washed sow with red sangria. Delicious! Servers were friendly and ate outside. They cooked the paella outside where people could watch. Great way to advertise lunch!

Simply Spanish is a little Tapas bar positioned out the front of the South Melbourne Market. They have a huge wok style cooker out the front that they use to make the traditional Spanish dish paella, just the smells coming from this little stall are enough to make your mouth water! For about $12.50 you can get a pretty decent serving of the brightly yellow coloured dish, however prawns will cost you an additional $2 (prawns are are a standard ingredient in Spain so not sure why they are additional in Melbourne.) The Paella is a hearty dish and although I definitely found the portions great, the flavours were not quite as strong as I was expecting. Still a good option to fill you up while wandering through the market, Simply Spanish do lunch Wednesday to Sunday and dinner Thursday to Saturday with live entertainment and traditional Sangria to keep you dancing.

While walking to the South Melbourne Night Market today, I had to keep myself from salivating as I passed by the huge Paella pans set up on the walkway outside Simply Spanish. Needless to say when we were done with the markets, this thriving restaurant was the dinner venue of choice and without even looking at the menu, we ordered Paella. It came quite promptly and the serving was pretty decent (for $12.50). Sadly though, the delicious looking paella was a little bit disappointing. It was nice but not great! But I could be biased because I only recently came back from a holiday in Spain and I remember the paella to be gastronomically amazing! We actually did want to try other things on the menu but after the paella, we really couldn't so we washed it down with a chilled glass of sangria (of course) and promised to come back soon to sample the rest of the menu. Next time though, we'll probably leave the paella out.

If you can resist the paella, cooked in a giant pan and served up to customers, if you can resist from drooling over that yummy delicious smell wafting over towards you, and can turn your nose up at the beautifully cooked seafood, then do yourself a favour and order the potato tortilla. The latter is a traditional tortilla, much more like a frittata than what gets wrapped around a burrito. It comes served with a choice of sauces (the one I always order is green, vinegary and spicy, but I can't remember for the life of me what it's called. Try everything until you get the one you like). This is real Spanish food, to be accompanied by wine, women in red dresses and lots of music. Best served hot, with lots of summer.

The food is great the coffee is fantastic and the staff are friendly and helpful, I had the mushroom and spinach paella it was delicious. The only criticism I have is the prices are a bit high for a market venue. The alfresco dinning is also lovely, they have many options for the unpredictable Melbourne weather

    Sensational!

Really happy service staff, deliciously cooked meat to my requirements and plenty of Spanish speaking clientele. Scrumptious!

They have a selections of Spanish wines and unique spiced sangria to accompany your meal. Their staff is knowledgeable and able to help you with your food and drinks selections. Overall the tapas are well prices, paellas are very affordable and they have a quick take away paella packages as well. Simply Spanish has two other branches in the CBD, one at Bourke St and the other is at Elizabeth St. On market day they have small stall in front of the restaurant with several big pan of special paella's.

Since we had our minds set on the paella, we each ordered one anyway. I got the daily special with sausage, scallops and pumpkin while she opted for the lamb. Having sampled both, I can say with certainty that they know their paella! The lamb paella was tender and flavourful, a good sign that the meat had been simmering to soften and flavour it, along with the rice. The scallop paella was just delightful, having the right blend of spices, a bit of surf and turf to flavour the rice, along with well blended pumpkin. It was hearty and filling. Both dishes were served on small paella pans and were well presented. In addition, the sangrias we sipped were fruity and refreshing. The staff was friendly, checking in on us more than once, topping off our water and clearing our table. It's true we beat the lunch rush so enjoyed the extra attention. This is one place where coming later still ensures you get a delicious meal, as the paella is a great dish that soaks in more flavour the longer on the grill. Come here for a fantastic lunch or sample their happy hour menu from 3-6pm. With a great location and tasty dishes, it is simply delicious.

Since opening I have been for a set menu lunch with workmates and a couple of lunches by myself, not to mention a couple of happy hours on Thursday and Friday evenings. All food has been wonderfully satisfying and very affordable for tapas offerings. Their sangria is to die for and I can't go past the deep fried goats cheese croquette. Go there and you won't be disappointed!

This night was all about trying new places, and then we met Bomba. Its technically a rooftop, but can also be technically fully covered. The bar part is under cover, and the sitting area has a retractable roof; kudos to you guys being prepared with Melbourne weather! So when you want to be drinking under a nights sky, depending on the night, you won't really get that here. This can be a good and bad thing. It was a chilly night, so only two of the windows were slid open, and they didn't give off the greatest city view. What you will get however, are good drinks, with suggested cocktails that can be a little cheaper than normal city bars. I had the Garden-something and it was refreshingly light, slightly tart, with cucumber for sure and minty. I also tried the sangria, man it had a tick to it, chocolate bitters and they did not hold back with that brandy either. But hey, for somewhere less crowded, that we were sure to get in and not fight over a table for, with their delicious cocktails, I'd visit you again. And next time, I'd go earlier, maybe make it a starting point versus an ending point. Plus, gotta try those tapas all the other reviewers are boasting about!

Service is great, the staff were really lovely and helpful. Many of the staff here also teach Spanish at the local language school where I study, which certainly speaks to their passion for bringing their local flavour to Melbourne. The menu is Latin American inspired small plates, so we ordered a couple of bites from the bar snacks portion to share as a group - beef shin empanadas, guacamole and chips, and polenta chips. All were tasty, the guac and chips were spot on and I particularly like the polenta chips as they were quite thin and crunchy rather than the chunky-burn-your-mouth out trying to eat it type. I'd come back and give dinner a go. I wasn't drinking so can't comment much on the booze available, but I did see that they do have happy hour specials going and mulled wine for winter. Probably somewhere I'd come more for a beer or margarita than a wine. They have a lot of shows and events here, their web site features a lot of fun Latin-American inspired music acts from mariachi bands to flamenco and Brazilian performers if you're looking for something more upbeat. If a boozy rowdy night is your style, I'd plan ahead for when something is happening or go on a Saturday night. If you're after a more chilled out spot to catch up with some friends, early weeknights are a good time to go.
