After checking them out online, I was very excited to see what they had to offer. However, when I got there, I was quickly disappointed. There was only one employee who was busy appraising jewelry for a customer. This would not have been a problem, but it honestly seemed very unwelcoming how completely we were ignored. A simple "Welcome to our store. If you need anything I can help you momentarily" is nice, but I am not the type of person that gets huffy if I don't get greeted, but I was completely invisible for at least 5+ minutes while we waited by the display we were interested in trying to make eye contact from 5 feet away. I guess he realized we weren't going to leave, because he decided to help us. I was finally able to try on some pieces, but the lighting in there was so poor (unlike traditional jewelry stores that are very well lit) that I really had a hard time seeing the pieces I was trying on. I know vintage pieces were designed to be viewed in candlelight, but that's not the case anymore, and it would be nice to clearly see what I am planning on purchasing. Also, everything looked really nice online and had ratings of VS2+, yet in the poor lighting, there appeared to be significant flaws in the diamonds that were visible to the naked eye. To me, a lot of the pieces looked like they had taken a beating. Besides being a cold experience, at one point, while we were looking at one tray of rings, the guy pointed out that one was missing so he would know not to assume we stole something. What?!? Besides the fact that I apparently look like a jewel thief, are you going to seriously say that to a customer?? Maybe Pamela is what makes this store slightly friendly (she was not in this day) but the employee she had working there last Saturday, left me still hunting, thoroughly disappointed, and slightly insulted.

There is a mix of old and new jewelry, and they are a full service jewelry shop, so you can go in and get things polished. I got a cute sterling silver green ring from the 30s there for only $30. Pretty good deal.

A memorable trip to Scotland netted me painfully few personal goods at the end of the day, and I still regretted those pictures of several beauty spots that never turned out due to technical issues or bad weather -- a common problem in the Highlands, rain. I never expected to find the solution to my problems tucked away behind the kitsch and Tudor buildings at Canterbury Village. My visit there had been wholly dissatisfying, and a walk brought me up to a brightly painted shop. Enter the Celtic Connection, one of those specialty stores run on two parts passion and one part love. It's a small business squashed away onto two floors, chock-full of various tokens of the Celtic nations (Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, and Manx), though Ireland gets a definite nod in most things. Nonetheless, behind the posters for Highland games and musicians at local spots, I found a few real gems. First up, postcards. Ever wanted your own view of Loch Linnhe or Dublin Castle? They may have you covered on some lovely art prints for a decent sum, and better yet, none of the touristy cards covered in nuisance slogans. Along with an assortment of magnets and keychains, other fun bits include lovely frame-ready prints, Celtic jewelry for men and women, and even a few snacks usually found at specialty import grocers if you're lucky. The clothing selection is really their bread and butter though. Wool sweaters predominate, and these are the real thing straight out of the misty isles. Fairisle sweaters, represent! My girlfriend bought me an Irish wool cap and I absolutely love it and wear it all the time! On top of it all, it's in a beautiful setting and I love coming here around the holidays. Looking for all of these particular crystals for body balance at the advice of some friends and an acupuncturist. I was looking for rose quartz, moonstone, carnelian, hematite, aragonite and the tiger's eye. How wonderful to be able to find them all in one store. I was searching for them on Amazon, but I couldn't tell their size or the texture. Crystals are a new enigma for me. I can't wait to learn more about them. I only recalled crystal necklaces being popular with some kids during school and the Himalayan salt crystals at massage places of the last 5-10 years or so. And the beautiful amethyst, since that was my aunt's favorite gem stone. It's well titled. They have a big variety of crystals, incense and more. Patti is super friendly, informative and patient too.
