The…read moretrunk shows typically take place at local venues like Common Market in South End or twenty-two in Plaza Midwood. Clothing prices start at just $4 and most pieces are well under $20. You'll score vintage dresses, designer coats and just about every accessory you can imagine. But it's not just just shopping ... it's an experience. The Urban Gypsy shows usually have a DJ on site as well as hula hoopers, tarot card readers, stylists and more. It's such a fun way to spend the afternoon and you'll end up walking out with new wardrobe necessities for just a few bucks. These trunks shows are ones you really do not want to miss. To find out about future events, like 'Urban Gypsy Resale Trunk Show' on Facebook. The shows are held all over, from Savannah to Asheville but the owner is based in Charlotte and typically has at least one show here per season.

It was quite on the small side though. Smaller than I expected. Prices were great and they would give you a discount if you danced. LOL. I only ended up getting a couple of scarves. $1 each. Whoa! There was also tarot card reading and henna application. I think there was something else, as well, that I can't remember. My friend got her hand henna'd. Cute experience, just wish they had more!

I had asked one of the young ladies working (Serena, I think her name was ((Serena if you're reading this ily) for a recommendation after finishing the ACOTAR series, and she had so many good recs to offer, and even came back and visited me around the store a few times to offer some more as she thought of them. That kind of helpfulness is rare and so appreciated. If you're looking for a new read, smut or otherwise, a new bookmark, tote bag, or just looking for something new to do in the Plaza area, I can't recommend this place enough.

A friend and I went opening weekend and there was a line almost around the block. The shop itself was adorable! Various romance genres were clearly labeled so you can peruse different books, and if a book was not available the staff was quick to add it to an order list. The staff was incredibly helpful and gave some wonderful recommendations based on what I like to read. They also had local authors come in to share their books, talk with readers, and sign copies. I found four new books and can't wait to come back again!

The lady next to me who was putting socks away didn't speak. Just looking at every item that I touched. I can guarantee you I make more money than them in one day. I have mixed emotions about this place. I walk past it EVERY day on the way to work and I eyeball…read morethe items in the windows. If it's cute...I make a mental note....if I gasp...I'll walk in and usually will not purchase because they won't have my size. grr. I have to get a dress in a size large in everything so it won't look like a micro mini on my long legs. And Larges tend to fly off the shelves. Lets face it....I'm not 20 anymore and I shouldn't be in a micro anything. I'm all woman..hear me roar. I think this location is a little bit "hipper" than the other location that is in the South Park area next to WS. That location has some of the same pieces but I've been in there and the items would def appeal to the older crowd (40's) and then made mid 20s. Today..... Uptown location made me proud. I had my eye on a Chevron Black and White LONG maxi skirt that was at another boutique in dilworth. I called them and they sold out in about a week. *tears* of sadness. Oh WAIT...I thought to myself...I think Ivy & Leo had the same skirt....I'll check on Monday. Walked in today with a coworker and I couldn't find it on the rack. *tears of sadness* I browse the sale rack as I morn in silence. My coworker said "is this it". A light from heaven shown down with all it's glory as she held up my beloved chevron black and white maxi skirt. "YES" and I snatched it. Thank the good Lord it was a large. I would have probably bought it anyway if it were a small and squeezed my thick'um thighs in it. (Don't judge...you know you've done that before). Here's where I get irritated. I'm happy and I asked the sales girl to hold it for me as I need to go back and get my wallet. I could have sworn she rolled her eyes in her head and I politely said that I would be back...no need to worry. She just grabbed it and said "Name?" wow....someone's got the Monday blues. So I went back and the OTHER nicer girl helped me. Anyway..that's my story. Check it out. It's a trendy little place and dangerous for me as it's on my way to work....blah. I have a shopping problem.

As for the staff, I wouldn't say they were friendly tbh; wasn't greeted or spoken to when I first came in. Just looks and stares lol. Only one person said hello to me and that was while I was walking past them on an aisle as they were putting clothes on one of the racks. They have a decent selection of unique items. A couple racks are dedicated to popular expensive streetwear brands. Their bags display cabinet didn't have much in it really. Also nothing was organized by sizes, so it got annoying trying to find pieces. Found a couple items I liked though, but after finding those same items for sale online...I put them all back. The in store labeled prices either didn't match the quality or was just a little much compared to what I saw online. I can see myself going back when I'm in Charlotte again, but I won't be in a rush to get back in there.

SPLURGE!!! I even love the name!…read more Yesterday I had the delightful pleasure of stopping in and spending some time discovering a boutique in the Myers Park section of Charlotte with a friend who was visiting. Let's just say that if I ever need to start 100% over with clothing...this will be a key stop for my wardrobe rebuild. I'm going to say it out loud...it might be the replacement for me with Ralph Lauren...this was truly an amazing shop with inspired owners who know how to dress tall women. The new LA trifecta may be St. John, Lilly and Splurge! I feel a little dirty for cheating on Ralph! I can't really speak for what they can do for those who are vertically challenged...but man alive, I could have bought 100 things there and been quite happy! Many of the brands they carry, including their phenomenal leather goods from GiGi New York, are sourced and made IN THE USA!!! I bought 11 items and all but one were made in one of our 50 states and I tell you, I just feel better not buying things made in China and being able to buy US goods is an extra WIN in my opinion! Luxurious fabrics-body conscious or flowing fit-and a wonderful mix of both neutrals and color POP pieces......yes, please!! They carry staples, special pieces, lingerie, accessories, lovely jewelry and it's clear they are more curator than buyer. The collections featured as they welcome the autumnal pieces in are clearly thoughtfully considered and edited by women who know not only fashion but what is going to work well with things you've worn for years and new pieces in fresh silhouettes. They are special without being odd. Unique without going on that couture side that is both price prohibitive and typically something you'd not want to be seen wearing in Charlotte. Or beyond a svelte size 2. Reasonably priced, I did not see anything that took my breath away from a tag perspective, just from a DANG THIS LOOKS FABU point of view. This is a boutique where it's not about sales, it is about service. I felt more as if they were facilitating my ability to round out my wardrobe than looking to hit a dollar goal in their cash register. The zest and passion for quality is evident from the moment you walk in the door. I love to support locally owned boutiques, US made items and wear beautifully made clothing. This is a new favorite stop for me, hope it will be for you, too!!
