When they sent their attendants to pick him up, they were on time and handled David's body with care and reverence. They honored a special request at the gravesite. One of the things we were most grateful: Jacqui was in frequent communication with Hospice to make sure the doctor signed the death certificate so we could have David's ceremony when we needed. Simple Traditions took care of both my parents. My mom in 2021 and my dad in 2024 (just a few weeks ago as of this writing). We gave their contact information to Hospice. Hospice notified them and they arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Considering the area they serve and traffic and all that... the wait time was absolutely reasonable. (I think 2 hours for my mom, 90 minutes for my dad) They contacted me directly after Hospice called them and let me know of the approximate arrival time. I was able to pre-pay well in advance for my dad....only a few days in advance for my mom (she was only on hospice for a week...my dad? over a year). I had to find information on my dad's ashes scattering and was able to add that service on at a later date. There was NEVER any pressure or guilt to "do more" and thus pay more. We were simply going to place my mom's ashes in her parents' grave, so no fancy urn was needed. They never, not once, even mentioned an upgrade. They told me how it would be delivered and only said that if we wanted a different one we could provide that or they can help with that. Being quite sure my mother would slap me upside the head for spending money on such a thing, we simply used the "come with the cremation" container; now tucked away with her parents. My dad wanted to be scattered in the same area HIS parents were....so no urn needed. No pressure to do anything else with the ashes like have them turned into a glass thing or some such. Every single person, both times, that I spoke with was kind and caring and helpful. Those who came for the removal were gracious, appeared to be unhurried (but I'm sure they were....especially with my dad...it sounded like it had been a busy morning for them.) They were willing to let me have more time with my dad (I declined) even though they had much to do. Costs were absolutely reasonable for cremation and scattering. I didn't look at the burial costs as that was never an option for my parents. I was ecstatic to see that they offer terramation now! That is MY preferred way "to go", so that's exciting. Unfortunately, they still need to send the body to Washington for the service. Hopefully that will be available in California soon. I live in Arizona, and the services which I required for my recently deceased sibling's final arrangements in the Sacramento area were very simple. After listening carefully to my needs, Sara provided exceptional service and counsel as to how to achieve those. They facilitated the process of remains release from the Coroner's office, information options for burial or cremation, and shipment options if interment was to occur in Oregon. I most appreciate their truly listening to me, and then advising me with zero commercial or sales pressure. When my sister passed suddenly during the covid pandemic I remembered hearing of this funeral service on NPR so I called them. All arrangements were done via phone because of the pandemic. I gave them all the pertinent information for a direct cremation. After waiting for nearly two weeks for her cremains I called and they said they were waiting for the death certificate from her physician. I called the office they said they had sent it and resent it. Finally after 2 weeks the cremation happened. When I received the cremains the death certificate was wrong and it was their error. They fixed that. Then when I looked again they had not given me a burial permit which I requested and they did reissue that as well. I have used other services of this kind before for other family members but this seemed to take an extra long time. Also when I called during the opening hours several times I got their answering service as they had left the office early. All in all it left me a bit bewildered having to wait so long for her cremains. read more

Wow, the owner, Nancy, had the audacity to blame us for their mistake. She claims we did not bring in our clothing and notes in a timely fashion, even though we were told they would contact us when they were ready for these things so as not to lose them as I previously noted in my review. We were told that this could take up to 2 weeks depending on how long the hospital took to get the death certificate. They were very happy to take our money when the intake was done the day after my husband's death, but could not follow through with any of our requests. This company is horrible. They do not care about grieving families or about what they tell people over the phone. They clearly only care about money. We did not ask for any money back, only an apology and an attempt to unite my husband's ashes with his personal notes and favorite T-shirt. The owner could have apologized and explained that a mistake had been made, but instead she choose blame us for the company's mistake and hang up on my sister. Multiple members of our family, myself included, are RNs in various hospitals around the Sacramento area, and none of us has ever dealt with such an uncaring funeral establishment. We will all be telling our patients and their family members not to use this company. In addition, my sister is filing a grievance with the Better Business Bureau in Sacramento. If you read the other reviews, you can see that multiple families have had terrible experiences with this company. This is not an isolated incident. read more

Simple Traditions (ST) was introduced to me by the hospice counselor who took care of my mother at the end of her life. He gave me the names of several places, and I chose ST because it was women-owned, had great reviews and very fair prices. Working with ST was a breeze, and everything went according to plans with regard to my mother. But for me, the real story was taking care of my father. My father died in 2004. He had wanted to be cremated but was buried, contrary to his wishes. After my mother died, I decided I would disinter him and have him cremated. Clearly, this choice made no difference to my father, but since these kinds of rituals are for the living, and it made a difference to me, I decided to go forth with my plan. Getting this done was not easy as the person who runs the cemetery where my dad was buried is, shall we say, not exactly on top of things. I worked with Nancy at ST, and even though it took 7 months (!), she got it done and my dad is now cremated and I have his ashes. Working with Nancy was a joy. She is everything her website says - no sales pressure, compassionate, present, respectful, caring, and does what she says she's going to do. I am so happy I was referred to ST, that I used them, and I highly recommend them and their services. Their prices are amongst the lowest around, they do not try to sell you all sorts of stuff you don't need, they are respectful, and they get the job done. And mind you, all of these good feelings without ever even having met them as I do not live in the area - this much compassion and care over the phone and by email! I can't even imagine how comforting it would be to work with them in person. When the need arises for their services, do yourself a favor and head straight to Simple Traditions. if I could give negative stars... I would. Had to give one star (which is waaay too many) in order to post a review. In this type of industry-customer service and honesty is everything. This place has neither. Constantly had to leave messages and follow up because every... single... time they were to "call right back; on the truck-will be here tomorrow; was just about to call; just found out..." they never did. They are nice enough when you talk to them... but the constant running around, dishonesty and over promising/under delivering is deplorable and devastating. Bought keepsake items-sent email confirmation... no reply, called several times to discuss/confirm... was assured "it was being expedited and had a post it note." Got my item... and it was wrong-and I had to call and refer them to my original email as I wanted a space between two words and they spelled out the word space. So-more waiting and being lied to on delivery for the replacement order. I would have been better off-ordering myself through the suppliers website. They were successful in making a devastating loss worse... over and over and over for a full 11 weeks. As if grieving your loved one isn't enough. read more

This review is for what Nancy and the ST staff did for us when our mother passed away a few months back. ST staff was accessible to answer questions at various times in the day. Staff was able to provide a clear understanding of pricing and offerings. We were not pressured to get things done although we were pressed for time. The staff took care of my mother like she was a loving member of their family. They kept her body preserved until viewing and cremation. They did a nice job to dress my mom up based on how we know she liked to be dressed. They listened to our family requests to honor my mom's religious beliefs and preferences. STOP HORRIBLE HORRIBLE STOP My sister died in January of this year, 2023. Prior to my sister's death, she PREPAID Simple Traditions to take care of her cremation needs. And so, the nightmare begins. Upon my arrival to Sacramento, I was notified that my deceased was still at the corners office. Where was Simple Traditions? My sister TRUSTED these people. I was informed numberous phone message were left with the answering service. I also left numberous phone messages to no avail. I had no choice than to employ the services of another funeral facility, Blue Oaks, they were fantastic. They immediately picked up my sister from the corner and promptly completed all the necessary procedures. Blue Oaks is a very professional business combined with a great staff; Mycah was/is wonderful. Simple Traditions answer your phone calls whenever if ever. Their service was/is unprofessional, unreliable and to date has NOT refunded the burial funds my sister paid them up front. Annie personally conveyed to me my sister intended for Simple Traditions to have the monies as a GIFT. Yep, no joke. Clearly BREACH OF CONTRACT. KEEPING MONEY FOR SERVICES THEY DID NOT PERFORM. The morally, honest, and correct thing to do, is promptly refund the money. Their actions are despicable, unacceptable and morally wrong. It is still an unresolved issue. As another review stated, you messed with the wrong person. Perhaps a judge can point out the error of your way. read more

I'm so glad she chose this woman-owned business, because they made a really difficult time much easier to handle. Sara was incredibly helpful and responsive throughout the entire process via email and phone; all of my questions and concerns were answered clearly and promptly. By some sort of miracle, she was able to facilitate an expedited cremation of my mom so that our family will be able to scatter some of her ashes in a beloved location (a desire I thought was impossible due to it being extremely time sensitive~it had to happen this weekend). I also want to give a special shout out to Russel Browning Jr., the lead crematory operator. He worked an extra long day until the wee hours of the morning to get this done for us. But what Simple Traditions does for families is something that I have never seen offered anywhere else & I will absolutely go here for any future loved ones' passing arrangements. Annie was knowledgeable about everything her company offers from the very first phone call & made me feel important, even in the midst of other customers & with Covid scares left & right. She made herself available to me every day & always followed up with me if she wasn't available right away, I called her sometimes 5-7 times a day & she never made me feel like I was a nuisance (I'm sure I was) & she made a beautiful & peaceful farewell for me & my family for my dad, when I know that no other funeral home could have or would have given us the goodbye that we needed. I didn't get the names of the people working at their chapel, but every single person that works for this company does everything in their power & goes above & beyond for the families that come to them. As i looked around the varous cemetary and crematon services, it was the worse kind of hustle and all of them horribly priced. I felt like I was being sold a used car and at the most vulnerable point emotionally feeling terrible. This place was recommended by hospice and well worth it. I can not recommend it enough. The worst experience I have ever had. My brother passed on December 5, 2019. I contacted this place on December 11th, took till February 11,2020 to finally get his cremated remains. I lost track of how many emails, phone calls I made during that time that never got a reply. I almost always had to contact them, I don't think they ever once did what they said they were going to do. Once they got my payment they forgot about me. I was out of state so I guess they figured they could take advantage of me. The reason I called them in the first place is because it was women owned, I am a man but I figured maybe they would be more compassionate, boy was I wrong. I have to say if I had to do this over again I would never choose them. The worst customer experience I have ever had, do not deal with these people no matter what the cost. They made the grieving process 10 times worst. I could not believe the service I got, especially considering the sensitive nature of this business. Terrible!!! read more

Our daughter passed away in October of 2020 from cancer. She new she was going and let us know that her wish was to be cremated. I was introduced to Simple Traditions while working in a nursing home and was very impressed with the two ladies that had visited the facility. I remember saying to myself "I'm going to call the ladies myself when the need arises." They were so wonderful as I explain the circumstances and we prepaid for the service a few weeks before my daughter passed. I wanted this business to be more because I like that they are women owned and advertise on Capital Public Radio (local NPR). My mother passed away eight weeks ago. Her cremains were picked up today. It took three phone calls to the "answering service" and no return call before I contacted a person who worked there today who could tell me the cremains were ready. I understand that we are dealing with covid conditions, so I wasn't expecting a four week turn around. I was expecting that 1) Someone would call me to tell me that my mother's body had been picked up from her nursing facility where she passed and 2) and call stating I could come in and pick up the cremains. Instead, I had to repeatedly call the business. The business hours are in a narrow window, and they are not open on the weekend. Open at 11:00am and close at 3:00pm. I read reviews that stated the business was being reorganized to communicate better at the start of corona lockdown March 2020. It is now 9 months later, and the same complaint from me that others have posted. Very bad communication. Good price on the service. They lost my business when I preplan. read more

I can not say enough about this place. My boyfriend passed June 15. The original place my boyfriend had been transferred to was just awful. We could never get a call back, any answers to questions regarding the services, the customer service was just awful. I did a little searching around and found Simple Traditions and from the first phone call they were so amazing. They answered every question I had. Called back when they said they would. They were beyond reasonable with pricing. The follow through made dealing with this difficult time so much easier. When the viewing took place, we went over our hour allotment time but the girl there this Sunday never rushed us out or made us feel like we had to hurry. I can not thank you all enough for how effortless you have made such a hard time. Thank you thank you thank you. If you are looking for a place to actually HELP during such a hard process of losing and loved one and a place that makes you feel like they sincerely cares about what you are going through this is definitely the place.
