Douglass Straight, Michelle Goff, and the rest of their team held my family's hand, from choosing a pastor, who offered a service meeting our spiritual needs, to helping us choose a final resting place for Mom under a large Oak Tree, where she would find peace. Doug listened to our needs and exceeded expectations making the resting day peaceful and less traumatic for the entire family. Michele helped design the perfect headstone which included a vase for flowers. I highly recommend Green Valley Mortuary of Cameron Park. My mother was buried in this cemetery almost 15 years ago. She was dying when she chose the plot…read moreshe would be buried in and my father bought the plot next to her. We were told it was the end of the row and no one would be buried to the side of her. I visit my mother all the time, generally twice a month. Unfortunately, it's been about two months since I have last been there. I have always found this cemetary to be a place where I find solace. I love sitting on the bench by my mom and thinking. I love looking at the tree that looks like elves live in it. My dogs enjoy coming with me to visit my mom. Today my visit was rather upsetting. Someone was buried next to my mother. Not only where we told that she would be the end of the row, which is WHY she chose that spot, They made an absolute mess and left a massive hole right next to my mothers headstone which I twisted my ankle in as I was pondering the situation, then my puppy fell in the hole. It is literally almost degrading the side of my mothers headstone. I am Jewish and we put stones on our loved ones headstones. All the stones I had placed and buried right next to her headstone are gone. I had a beautiful heart stone. Gone. Years and years of memorializing my mom is gone. I cried. I find this a flagrant disrespect to my mother and my family. So I called Miller funeral home. I spoke to a nice guy who passed my message on. I got a call shortly thereafter from Wendy. I texted Wendy back and sent her these photos. She told me that I must have misunderstood, that that area was always supposed to have someone buried in it. Then she said, oh it must have changed as they were going to put a walkway in and then realized they couldn't. So NO I did not misunderstand. You all changed what you said and now you're doing what you want. She also told me to only put flowers and not rocks as it causes issues for their lawn maintenance. I'm sorry, a few small stones ON my moms headstone or right next to it causes your lawn guy that many issues? Do you not realize how many Jewish cemetaries with rocks are maintained? If the few stones I leave on occasion cause that many issues for your lawn guy, perhaps you need a better lawn mower, or lawn guy! And I was told they will talk about changing their policy to not allow stones. Again, how incredibly disrespectful to an entire religion. I am above an beyond shocked right now by the behavior of the people at this funeral home/cemetery. Death and memorializing my loved ones, especially my mother, is incredibly important to me. I know feel as though the people who work here cannot be trusted to respect the wishes of the deceased and their families in the long run. Sounds like you need both sensitivity and culture training. How do you not know the traditions of others religious when it comes to death when working in the death industry? Do better.

I've always taken pride in his resting place and visit him nearly every day. I was unable to make it over Mother's Day weekend, as I went to visit family in Oregon. I returned into town on Monday evening and went and visited him on Tuesday 5/14. Shocked and in disbelief, I seen all of his sentimental items that have been at his resting place for the last 2 years, were gone. I'm talking hand painted rocks, a trinket my husband got him from Egypt, a gnome, mini turtles, an angel, wind chime and etc. they only left two plants next to his resting site, just totally disrespecting our sacred site to visit my son. I went to the office, in which I was told they had "Mother's Day cleanup" and everything was tossed in the trash. They didn't do this last year, or the year prior, so I was so confused. My heart sank.. why would they do this?? If they needed the things moved, why didn't they reach out to me? They have my email, and my phone number. It all didn't make sense. All the other nearby resting sites had all of their stuff untouched, but my sons, had everything taken. Today they had said they have his belongings and have fished it from the trash, but won't give them back to me today. I'm stuck on what to do... but my first instinct is to inform the public to look for another resting site for your loved ones, as this one has just put my family and I through the ringer. I wish we were able to take back our decision of purchasing a plot at their location. I have added pictures of the way my son's resting site looked before they took everything, and after they took everything.

What appears to be an old dilapidated house is actually the original St. John the Baptist Church, established in 1857. Apparently, it was Folsom's only Catholic church for over 100 years. The building across the street, which currently houses The Bridge Community Church, was built as a new location for St. John's, but was later sold when the newest location on Montrose was completed. According to St. John's website, this old building, which is now considered a historical landmark, is still used for special occasions, such as weddings and holiday masses. Personally, I haven't seen the inside of the church, but the outside is in serious need of restoration. To me, the most interesting features of this landmark are the historical tomb stones. Some of them have fascinating inscriptions. Some have tacky gates around them that look like they belong in a cheesy Halloween movie. And some appear to be forgotten and neglected in the back of the yard. The grass is very overgrown, and the property does not seem to be very well maintained, overall. Other than that, though, this is a cool cemetery with a chill history. EDIT: I'm not sure why it was edited, but the correct address is, in fact, 1100 NATOMA STREET. The address that it was edited to on Montrose is the address for the replacement church that was built many decades later.
