My family and I unfortunately had to arrange my brother's funeral. We went to look at another cemetery before we looked at Cherokee Memorial and it was very sad. When we came to Cherokee Memorial, my mom said this is the place. She really liked the location as did the rest of the family. The grounds are very nice and clean. The main building is very nice and clean and they even offer complimentary coffee and water. The ladies at the front desk were all very kind from the beginning to the end. Fatima helped us with finding a plot. She was patient and knowledgeable. When it came to arranging the actual services, we were helped by the funeral Director Scott Gatze. He was VERY kind, patient and compassionate. He promptly responded to my emails if I had any questions or concerns. He also explained everything in detail. We had the viewing and the funerals services at Cherokee Memorial as well. We were able to have the viewing in the Zinfandel Room and the staff attended to anything that we needed. When it comes to arranging a funeral, it's hard emotionally and you just don't know what to expect or even where to start. It helps when you have a funeral home with people that are compassionate, helpful and kind. My family and I are grateful to have had this type of treatment for not only us, but for my brother.

Mostly all of my husband's family and friends are buried here. Last year we buried his brother here as well. We wanted to place him here....the place they visited so often growing up. My husband's family has been coming here for many decades. It's comforting to know that he's at a cemetery that's well cared for. The grounds are immaculate. We've never come here and thought that the grounds were unkept? There has been a number of incidents in the last few years with vandals stealing vases. It's sad that someone has resorted to this kind of behavior. I think the vases are taken to recycle centers where they are cashed in? Anyway, I hope they find the person or persons. It's quite an inconvenience and disheartening for the families of the deceased.

No one ever prepares you to plan for a funeral service of a loved one but Michael was really communicative, patient, accommodating, understanding, and offered so much help and knowledge during the entire process from start to end. Initially, the reviews deterred me from this establishment but after seeing it for myself, experiencing it myself..... I would had say it turned out really well and as best as it can be. We received tons of compliments for the service. The entire space is pretty huge and we unexpectedly had a large gathering of family and friends and there was still plenty of space. The parking lot was also a huge plus with ample parking throughout the sides/back. Thank you Michael and Laura for everything.

Mind you the burial at Sacramento valley national cemetery in Dixon was FREE. They totally took advantage of us in our grief and were trying to con us out of additional monies. Rosie even stood by while we as a family were crying and grieving at my grandmothers grave. The cemetery told us there was no reason for her to be there and absolutely NO REASON they should charge us. We refused to pay as Rosie did not have a card reader or receipt book. She wanted us to pay cash of $1000 and receive no receipt or verification we had paid. Extremely unprofessional. We refused to pay at that point. When my mother called the following day to hash it out with Michael he had the nerve to tell her that if anyone else in our family passes away to find another funeral home to handle it. I've never been so disgusted with an establishment that would take advantage of people at the lowest time of their life. It's gross and needed to be called out. Don't take your beloved family members here.

When I visit, I like to clean up small bits of debris and leave things a little better than I found them. It feels important to show care and respect, especially for the founding pioneers of our town who are laid to rest here. There is so much local history here, and sites like Find A Grave really help bring those stories to life and remind us how much appreciation is owed to the people who came before us. This place offers calm, perspective, and a meaningful connection to Lodi's past.

I recently attended a non-denominational, Christian, Memorial Service for a good friend of mine…read more The service was held in the mausoleum. The minister did a really good job of talking about our friend, Larry, and kept the church part at a minimum. I've been to too many services where they talk all about the church and the religion and almost nothing about the person and I think that's wrong. Here, the minister really did know the deceased and was able to talk a bit about him on a personal basis. It was a very nice service for a really good and sweet fellow. Larry was one of the most gentle souls I ever knew. And it was very evident just how much the folks attending liked and respected him. The mausoleum was unheated and it was cool day so it was pretty cold in the beginning. However, once the crowd arrived and filled the chapel to overflowing, the body heat helped to make it fairly comfortable. The minister's podium was at the front of the chapel and the beautiful stained glass window was behind him and was nicely illuminated by the sunlight outside. After the service inside, we all walked a short distance to the grave site. It was fairly solemn group walk. There was an awning put up to shelter the burial site and after some remarks by Larry's wife and some additional remarks and a prayer by the minister, Larry's ashes were manually lowered into the square, open hole by a cemetery worker. The family had passed out long-stemmed, red roses to everyone and we all said our goodbyes and dropped the rose onto the white, rectangular vessel holding Larry's ashes. It was a very nice ceremony. We were pleased at how well the whole event was conducted. Guests were invited by the family to a Luncheon Reception at a restaurant in downtown Lodi. Unfortunately, we weren't able to attend due to an obligation back near home. Jim

The staff are very nice and able to really anticipate the needs of family and friends who come here to honor their loved ones who have passed on to that other world. They really do treat their guests here with deep sincerity. I like that there is a water cooler in the front lobby to which everyone is able to refresh themselves. Also there are 2 clean restrooms and 1 or 2 family rooms available. There is also only 1 memorial room so that there would only be one function at one time (which works perfectly for those who come here and are not lost in trying to find the right room). The large memorial room itself is a nice large size and can hold about 150 people. There is a projector screen (also a monitor out in the front lobby) available to use (for an additional pay but of course) and a podium with microphone. There are also speakers that can be heard throughout the room. This memorial chapel is pretty easy to get to, as it is right off the 5 freeway. But is a bit hidden, so you may have some guests that may have some problems finding it. Oh just thought I would mention that there are a few handicap parking spots right at the front of the entrance, to help shorten the walk for those who need it (as there were a few guests that came to the funeral that needed them). Just as my grandmother's funeral had gone smoothly and peacefully here, so did my grandfather's funeral last year as well. With 2 grandparents now laid to rest, DeYoung Memorial Chapel was the perfect place to honor them and hold a special service for them.

They tried to short me two entire hours of my loved one's funeral service and ended up shorting me only one hour after I complained. At the planning meeting I informed them that I wanted to pay on assignment they agreed since that's one of the approved forms of payment they take. This was two weeks before the funeral. Then they proceeded to lie and say that my loved one's life insurance company didn't allow that type of payment and that I had no claim opened, but in reality they were the ones to call the insurance company and specifically say they were refusing the payment on assignment and wanted to be paid up front. And not wait the obligatory 20 days. When I informed them that I didn't have a way to pay them in cash which is why I chose the payment on assignment option they said "well if there's no payment there's no funeral or cremation" only a couple days before the funeral. They made it seem like they were holding my loved one's body hostage and only cared about their money. So not only was I dealing with the devastation of losing my loved one now I had to scramble to find cash to cover the costs since they will charge 3% for using a credit card. They lied multiple times to my face and they were very inconsiderate and lacked training. The only employee that I have nothing bad to say about was their receptionist Dylani. She was always very helpful and thoughtful. And then as a cherry on top Lenny the funeral director signed the guest book before any of the family or guests did. I was very irked by that because he wasn't family or a friend and signed it as a business card.

From the moment we met Amber, we felt comfortable. My dad lost the love of his life after 66 years of marriage and is heartbroken. Amber made the whole process of making decisions easy for him! The whole process was simple and she made it carefree for us. We also worked with Elaina and Dylani. Everyone worked so well with us especially when we had to make edits to the death certificate and the obituary amongst on the spot decisions on the day of service that my brother and I had to make. They all were so patient and understanding of us as we were in pain and grieving. Also, the embalmer made my mom look beautiful and they added a veil to her casket for the viewing which added a special touch. While we set our own funeral program, Amber and the rest of the staff was there by our side to make sure everything was accomplished. They helped pin the boutonnières on the pallbearers and helped with the timeline of procession to the burial after ceremony after the reception. I couldn't have asked for a better execution of the timelines as we had to drive almost an hour to the cemetery. We were able to have Athena the service dog visit and the FB live worked well for our relatives overseas! Also, I recommend renting the reception room. They provided coffee, tea, and water. We added breakfast in the morning and charcuterie foods for after the service. Super convenient for those that were not going to the burial. Also, some people and kids were not comfortable with the viewing so it was a safe place to hang out. Plus, perfect for a family reunion with people you haven't seen in years! Such a smart idea to have this room. The price of funeral was reasonable. I love this staff. The home itself is beautiful and I love the chandeliers. It was a perfect environment to feel the love everyone has for my mom and our family. Also, service to the burial was great. Amber had my dad ride with her in the hearse. That was super nice for my dad. She was really great with him and helped to lift his burdens. At the burial, everything was executed well and done professionally. Thank you!
