Hannah has given me the necessary push to look in to both my mental, spiritual, and physical health. Joe and Maan are solid therapist I've had the pleasure of working with. Mental health treatment centers abound in Orange County. Barn Life Recovery has evolved in a very…read morespecial way. Located in a Mecca of twelve-step programs, addiction treatment centers, and mental health treatment programs, Barn Life's philosophy is entirely holistic, paying respectful homage to both ancient wisdom and modern modalities. They acknowledge - and practice - integration of body/mind/spiritual as it has been understood in Eastern philosophy for millennia, and intertwine it with current, up-to-date approaches to mental health management. Their clinical staff is well-versed in neurodiversity, in the examination and understanding of the deepest layers of internal family systems, and in how the multitude of variables within each individual's experience (trauma, addiction, OCD, autism, sexual orientation/expression, family of origin, etc.) might affect these variables. The center lacks in polish-and-marble sterility, but it succeeds because it rejects these qualities as "necessary" for better mental health. Rather, its eclectic, colorful, organic, seemingly-haphazardly-thrown-together ambiance lends itself to honesty, vulnerability and authenticity. It is not for those who desire cold, distanced, workbook-driven therapy groups. It IS for those who need somewhere to meditate amongst knowledgable, caring, concerned providers about the darkest, most frightening elements of their interiority to face them bravely, to gain naked insight, resilience and - eventually - calm. There is no place quite like it, and it is saving lives with its unassuming, humble, sage sensibility.

At times even waiting in silence for some engagement and wouldn't say anything unless I asked. Jennifer, Is amazing! She listens and either reads her notes before the session or has amazing memory but definitely recalls information from a week prior. She also engages by asking questions and gives feed back. Highly recommended Jennifer if you're looking for someone who not only listens but remembers prior information and is engaging in a way that feels like a conversation rather than a therapy session.

I was pretty hopeless but willing to give counseling a shot. I felt at ease with Jennifer very quickly. She is very relatable and intelligent, and she really cares. She very quickly saw what was going on between us, and we both felt relief that someone got it and could help. I feel like she cares about both of us individually and as a couple, and wants us to succeed. We are doing better (we are still a work in progress), but we both feel much stronger in our marriage, and are very committed to making it work. She is someone I trust to recommend for therapy.

I highly recommend Courtney Collier, her no-nonsense approach is exactly what we needed. I saw…read moreCourtney for couples counseling during a time where my boyfriend & I both felt like we could really use a third-party intervention. My boyfriend and I are two strong people, and we needed a therapist to be sharp enough to call us out on our stuff. Not only did she prove a strong therapist, in the end I really got a sense that she cared about us. Perhaps it's a small thing, but it made the whole therapy experience real for me. It's amazing how our fights always seemed to be over they same small stuff, & Courtney helped us see that what we where fighting about wasn't necessarily about the content, but about much deeper needs both of us had. Knowing this, we now can have meaningful and productive conversations that often have a good outcome. I walked out of therapy seeing our relationship issues as just normal stuff people go through. What makes our couples counselor unique is that her style of counseling uses tools that she instructed us to use in session. We continue to be mindful and use these tools outside of our session. This hands-on approach gave us essential life skills that I just didn't get growing up...common sense skills to communicate with honesty and vulnerability and ways to avoid reactive fighting that so plagued us in the past. Again, I highly recommend Courtney Collier- she is the best in SF!

The brain scan and the counsel and the supplement advice I received were helpful to know, but I think I could have gotten a lot more out of those $5,000. It really didn't tell me anything new and they didn't prescribe me anything revolutionary. Even though I can see what's going on with my brain, you still have to think your way through this. So I don't think if you're considering whether you should spend $6,660 at the Amen Clinic or invest it in cognitive behavioral therapy, I say you'd be better off using it on therapy. It was an interesting experience, albeit expensive and not so fruitful, but I think the worst part is the not getting prescriptions renewed because I don't want to pay 500 bucks an hour. I found it's not a true "care" or solution place- it's a profit center primarily, with short-term focus and poor priorities for human care.
