I was on a cruise in…read moreAlaska celebrating a wedding anniversary, and when we stopped at Diamonds International at the Alaska port, whom a friend supposedly had a "great experience", and bought a ring, when we took it home to get it appraised for insurance, it was A FRAUD and DIAMONDS INTERNATIONAL ALASKA (HEADQUARTERED IN NEW YORK) sold us a ring two levels lower in the quality of the diamond than was written in the "fake certificate" they gave us. The insurance company told us that was not a real certificate and to get an official one. When I called Diamonds Int, they asked me not to get it appraised and that they would get me an official certificate ASAP. I knew there was BS involved by this point and went to get it professionally appraised. The ring was two levels lower than was stated to us. And it was an expensive purchase. The appraiser told us he had a similar case coming from the same company a month before, but they were not lucky as theirs was off only by one degree, and they were not able to get their money back because of what's stated in the contract. He then referred us to Jeweler's Vigilante, a mediator non-profit to help us try to get our money back. Luckily for us, the ring was two levels lower. Their contract states that if it's one level lower, you only get a store credit. We fought with these guys for three months trying to get our money back until Jewelers Vigilance Committee helped us. If you have been defrauded by a ring or watch store, contact them. They helped us by sharing the rules that protected us, and where we were not protected, and helped us mediate as Diamonds International corporate in NY was extremely unprofessional, horrible ethics, bad customer service and non-honoring of the mess they made. After FIVE months we finally received the refund they owed us. Thanks Jewelers Vigilance Committee for all your help! You are wonderful. And if you are ever on a cruise ship, DO NOT BUY ANY JEWELRY AT THE PORTS!!! DIAMONDS INTERNATIONAL IS THE BIGGEST SCAM. And it is not guaranteed by the cruise ship as they say they are. It had been modified with unauthorized materials and repairs that messed up its movement and reliability. It was an old model that had been pre-owned - none of which was revealed to me at the time of purchase. When confronted, the jeweler provided a modified sales receipt in an attempt to cover this up!. Jo-Ann Sperano, JVC's paralegal/mediator specialist, went to work on my behalf and patiently pursued my case for months. Result? The jeweler agreed to refund the total purchase price. We could not have gotten a better result! It saved me the cost and aggravation of taking this to court. And Jo-Ann is the most pleasant, supportive, capable professional you could ever hope to have on your side. I strongly recommend the JVC for anyone who has a legitimate dispute with a jeweler. I got the optimal result with minimum hassle and expense. It restored my faith in the power of mediation and industry self-regulation. JVC works!
