Yep, that place was Brocky's, and to say that they served a pretty decent breakfast is an understatement. I even broke from my routine of simply having bacon and eggs and dived in for a pancake and I must say I was pleasantly rewarded. Those pancakes were magnificent. My friend ended up having the poached eggs, but I really couldn't get any more than 'yep, there good' out of him (though if they weren't I would have been sure to hear about it). Oh, and they also gave us a massive pot of tea with a side of water, with made the fact that they had simply dumped the tea leaves into the pot not as annoying as it normally is. This is definitely a place that I would recommend to people down this way.

You don't feel crowded, though: the place is quite large, with high ceilings, and you're not packed in like some breakfast cafe nooks are. The ladies running the show were friendly, took our order, and promptly brought out some tasty coffees and a great brekkie. I had a big bowl of baked beans with smoked ham and a slice of toast (one of my favourites); they had a few types of beans in there, mixing things up. My wife had mushrooms on toast - in fact, one giant, grilled mushroom cap, which she reported as being quite good. If you find yourself on the west end of the Great Ocean Road you could do a lot worse for breakfast.

Behind the barista is a wall of tea varieties - I'm a coffee fan so I can't comment on these but the selection is huge. Little treats adorn the front of the coffee counter, tempting caffine pilgrims as they pass. I think they do food as well, but I only had coffee so I'm not 100% sure. From my infrequent visits to Warrnambool, I have found really good coffee in only a few places around the town and surrounding countryside. It's obviously close to if not heritage listed perhaps, built 100+ years ago, with those amazing high ceilings, vintage chandeliers, skirting, period furnishings and decor. I ordered a $22.90 Chicken Parmigiana, usually my first choice in new places. The menu seemed quite vast. Along with traditional Italian style dishes, like pizza, pasta, meat and chicken dishes- there also looked to be a few Asian influences with things like garlic prawns, satay chicken, spring rolls. Along with these choices there was also a steak menu, seafood menu, vegetarian options, and of course desserts. Something for everybody by the looks. When my meal came I was a little wide eyed at the fact it was one of the smallest schnitzels I've received. I dined somewhere else a few days ago and received a fairly small schnitzel, but this breaks the record. Literally I think it would've been around 10cm by 7cm sitting on a large dinner plate. My chips and salad were served on small bowls to the side. Luckily for them if it wasn't for the fact I wasn't that hungry tonight I probably would have shunned them. One positive I must note is that the chips we received were lovely thick cut chips which I thoroughly enjoyed devouring. They were almost a meal in themselves. Each type of seafood was well cooked and comes with paired sauce. We also got the spaghetti and meatball daily special to finish things off. The noodles were cooked al dente and the sauce was good but a little watered down, I'm assuming because the noodles weren't drained all the way. Service was nice and attentive and there was live music from what looked like a neighborhood band. Good experience overall.
