    Sulcata tortoise

Absolutely stunning work! Our beloved sulcata died and just didn't feel right to bury such a majestic creature and Simon came in and delivered us a beautiful specimen to enjoy forever. Thank you!!!

I initially gave a 1 star a month ago because we did not hear from Simon for several months about our tortoise. After reaching out to him again, he provided an update on our tortoise. We finally picked up our tortoise today. We are pleased with how it turned out.

I gave Simon my rooster a while ago and I am impressed with his work. The amount of detail he puts into his pieces is noticed and well admired. I couldn't be any happier with the animal and I'm glad Simon was able to bring the roosters character back to life. ART TAKES TIME and patience is a virtue.

Simon is an excellent Taxidermist and Artist. He does fish to bear! Please be patient with Simon his turn around is 12-18 months as of now. He's had a few thing happen in his world!

Was looking for a taxidermist as time was of the essence coming home with a trophy buck on a Sat night.

I'm a total beginner when it comes to taxidermy, but, by the end of my classes (I've now taken three!), I had a beautiful specimen to take home: the skin was prepared meticulously in-house, and then I was given access to the highest-quality tools and materials to craft my piece, using museum-caliber techniques taught by Allis. For two of my classes, we also benefitted from the presence of Allis's mentor, Tim Bovard from the Natural History Museum of LA County! Taxidermy is a challenging art, but, if you're interested in natural sciences and want a truly memorable way to spend a weekend in Los Angeles, Prey's classes are an outstanding way to learn something new in a very welcoming, inclusive environment. The studio itself is gorgeous; the world-class instruction can't be beat; you're surrounded by smart, enthusiastic, creative people; and you'll be so proud of yourself and what you've accomplished by the time your class is over. I highly, highly recommend Prey Taxidermy, and I look forward to taking many more classes with Allis, Paloma, Laura, and the rest of the Prey team!

Memento Mori is a slice of oddities and curiosities of all kinds for sure... From smoky quartz, amethyst and incenses to your accessories, skeleton keys and figurines to books, nooks and break in case of emergency vampire emergencies. They have some fun vintage movie posters, including in magnet form in the mix I'll definitely be back for! This Hollywood hidden gem sits pretty much by itself across from the Amazon Prime Experience theater off Wilcox Avenue/Sunset Blvd between Sunset and Selma Avenue. Street parking (meter), local parking garages and lots or the metro (a short stroll from Hollywood/Vine) are your foeful friend. Great customer service and so many attentions to detail displayed throughout their entire store. One thing I truly enjoyed/enjoy about Memento M. is their support of others, including several look clubs, organizations and events like the iconic She's in Parties goth night event every 4th Friday of the month. Open from Noon (12pm) to 6 daily, Thursday through Tuesday, with the exception of Wednesdays when they rest (are closed).

I'm a big fan of Gold Bug in Pasadena, but they are not quite as "dark" in their aesthetic. Memento Mori, on the other hand, feels like a pretty good replacement. So, what are you going to find here? Well, as you may have guessed from my intro, taxidermy. The classic boars and deer heads preserved as wall ornaments...but also delicate butterflies beautifully arranged under glass domes. While no where near as extensive a collection of preserved animal parts as Necromance, there still is a decent collection, particularly for decor. Memento Mori also lacks the strong mothball smell that permeated the aforementioned store. There is a large collection of silver jewelry incorporating classic taxidermy elements, such as glass eyes. And lots of trinkets for those of a "gothic" aesthetic. They also carry a number of very comfortable tshirts bearing variations of their logo, one of which currently hangs in my closet. Memento Mori also appears to serve as a gothic community center: they always have flyers and posters advertising events such as Endless Night, a vampire-themed ball, or gothic-themed fairs for artisans. So, definitely worth a visit if your aesthetics or predilections lean to the darker side of life.
