SFU is an amazing school located at a spectacular place, top of Burnaby Mountain. The scenery never stops to amaze me. The school has a unique connected structure. I love this design since it makes communication between different departments so easy and it is more friendly. Very prestigious Physics program with famous scientists. There are lots of yum foods and nice housing on campus. You'll enjoy seeing deer and fox on the road very often!

SFU is a good, albeit slightly unorganized and occasionally inefficient, university.

Since my parents don't want me to waste time in Canada, after I applied for SFU. I attended courses in FIC in Jan.14th. I thought FIC is like any other Colleges in BC. BUT GUYS, ITS TOTALLY NOT!!! I got accepted by SFU in Feb. and when I ask if I can transfer the credits i completed in FIC to SFU. As you can guess, they say no because I only finished 1 semester in FIC. And they won't give me any refunds for dropping which I can understand since I have read their policies before I payed the tuitions. And then, SFU says they might cancel my offer for Sep. since I am a FIC student and I did not report my fic grades in my application. Hey, I applied to SFU before I attend in FIC, how the hell on the earth do I report my FIC grades in my application!? Now you guys probably wonder why would I attend in FIC instead of staying Douglas. The reason is I thought FIC is same as other college and I want to experience how SFU life is like so that probably I could have a "smooth" first year of SFU. The reality is that, You pay the tuitions for credits like other colleges in BC but one more underground limit they don't tell you is that you cannot transfer the credit to SFU unless you finished at least a total of 30 credits in there, which means you have to finish your first year in FIC and then go to SFU regardless you got accepted by SFU or not. I know my case is unique but just warn you guys, If you are like me who applied for SFU, be aware of this. They have underground business and policies. ps: the instructors in FIC are nice and I appreciate them.

They do whatever they can to milk money from students (especially from the international ones) and do not deliver good quality courses and SERVICES. I attended the North American Business Applied and do not recommend it. There are similar courses out there for a much better price, and most of the time, the instructors will be the same - btw, one of the few things that I liked about CapilanoU. Do not expect to have much assistance from their staff. They don't keep their word at all! I confess that I got a lot disappointed, maybe because I was expecting too much from this college - considering the huge amount of $ and time invested. if I could turn back time, I'd have chosen another university for sure!

My primary review is for the film program. I came here based on the reputation at the time of the course being better than some in the city (you know who you are). For what you paid and what the course had to offer seemed weak. The course was divided into sectionals: Lighting and camera, script writing, editing, AC, history of film, and business of film. Some teachers in the course had experience in the industry that were relevant and had a lot to offer while others were out dated. Please note that my experience compared to the current course may have changed as well as the teachers, however, I know that most of these are still in existence 'cause I have some of my friends nieces currently enrolled. Through conversation with them I feel that situations have not changed. Of course names will not be mentioned as that is irrelevant to the review. Editing: Bi-polar teacher that was supportive one moment and screaming at your the next for no reason. Not enough computers to go around to encourage or allow students to work on projects. History of film: You watch movies all day, something that I can do on my own for free on Netflix. Teacher was sexiest. Script Supervising: One of the most valued courses for me. I have an eye for mistakes and love the technical side of things in regards to continuity. Aside from a PA on major productions, for independent movies I did a lot of script supervising. Teacher was warm, knowledgeable and she made things make sense. Camera & Lighting: Learned some basics, however, with new lenses, editing and lighting this soon became an outdated course. The basics still hold value today. Business of Film: Teacher had an awesome sense of dark sarcasm and humor, we got along great. After learning about the business, financial numbers seen very interesting to you. I found that the course had way too many fresh out of high school kids who either didn't know what they wanted, thought they could be the next Lucas, still had some high school tendencies. I was a bit older than them and established myself a bit more to mature and grow before finding my way. There weren't enough people that were my age or slightly adult who took the course as seriously as they should. This partially ruined my learning experience. I was 4 years older than most of the students and still too young for the few adults. Way too much drama and high school attitude that most of my classmates carried through in their adult life. Because of this I didn't get a lot out of this during the projects as I felt were owed to me. This is a flaw with the admissions portion as mentioned before, not the students themselves. As mentioned, even if you have a demo tape. If you had the money or a scholarship, you were in. No real filtering of students who would actually elevate or make the course. The course was overly priced. Parking is horrible, take the bus. Parking is horrible, take the bus.

Being jobless, homeless at some point and sick for several years, I also got into enormous debt. I was reluctant at first to apply to a college, knowing I have this debt baggages, a learning disability and mental health issues. This didn't stop me. I would never know unless I try. So I decided to venture into a different career and pursue my passion. I started to search on google about the courses school offers nowadays. I stumble upon CDI College optimized website. I found that they offer many courses and one of them is Social Media and Web Marketing, a growing industry nowadays. I send out my name and email on the website's online form. Roman Ansari, Director of Admissions emailed me, and my journey began. Roman is one of the best people I met; he is passionate about his job and has the heart to help people pursue their dreams. I am one of them. He guided me to explore my career options with great patience and proficient knowledge. He went above and beyond his duties and even encouraged me to join a women's group that has been so helpful. The finance department applied for my student loan. All the finance staff & others were very kind, patient and friendly and guided me to the step by step process. I was surprised and grateful to get the student loan and a huge grant. My course started in March 2021. This has been a life-changing opportunity for me. I could never ask for a better teacher than Ms Angie Janzen. She has been so patient and very helpful to her students. Ms Janzen makes it easy for us to absorb the daily lessons, be very emphatic, and listen to her students. This course has been extremely fun for me, and I am excited to finish this course and start a career in Digital Marketing. I am beyond thrilled that not only my expectation was met it surpassed my expectations. I am glad to take this career change with this, and I am excited to see what is in store for me. Whatever obstacles you have, every moment is a fresh beginning and it's never too late to become who you want to be. I highly recommend any aspiring students who want to pursue their dreams through education. Reach out to Roman and I know he will go above and beyond as my personal experience has been nothing but excellent. Best, Nems
