TERRIBLE rip off I enrolled in Surrey college for the unit…read moreclerk program in 2008 it was the biggest mistake of my entire young life the instructor for the unit clerk program was just a unit clerk I don't know what qualification she had to even administer this course it was about $5000 and their admissions team set everything up for me with BC student loans so I just signed on the dotted line when I started my course everything was so hectic and we had 27 girls in our class some had just graduated high school others came from professional jobs in other countries to make a Long story short within a few months of starting this program the class had dwindled down to only three students all of the other students had been removed from the class with prejudice just because the instructor did not like them they had even excepted students who knew absolutely no English so nobody got a refund they basically scammed 24 people out of thousands of dollars for no reason they need to be shut down and I see that they only offer three programs as of 2015 they must have made a lot of people very angry by offering the course letting them in taking their money and just kicking them out. It is very very upsetting. I have the transcripts myself to prove how well I was doing before the instructor pulled me aside and told me I wasnt going to 'make it' and should just leave. After I was resistant she just failed me. It was completely 100% unethical to The point that I did create a big fuss about it but never gained anything from it I still know several people from That course and it really messed up their lives now having the student loan debt for nothing. why didn't the school just deny the application because their English was too little or they weren't considered too young or they could've used any excuse but they didn't care they just wanted their money. What I don't understand why they would even let someone in to that program if they didn't think they could do the course at all. There were women in the course who had been pharacists in India, one a 50 year old legal assistant, all tossed aside because of there lack of english or mainly the instructor claimed these girls shouldnt be in this course at all because they were 'too young' or 'would never be able to be a unit clerk' based on the instructors personal judgements. is just not fair and was a huge waste of everyones time and money. I did complain to the PCTIA. I should have known better when I walked into the 'college' it was held in a makeshift trailer. Thanks for listening to me and Please I wouldnt wish my worst enemy to this pathetic unrecognized unprofessional place. It ruined my life. Now I work as an office assistant truly regretting the thousands of dollars I have to pay back for nothing. It also ate up all our self esteem. Makes a lot of people sick and should be known I dont see how they could have gotten away with this. Please dont go there Iam begging anyone considering to run the other direction.

Plus, it gave me even more reason to hang out downtown. [end flashback] Taking classes in the Writing and Publishing program this past year gave me a reason to go back and experience it through adult eyes, and while the views and amenities are still there, I gotta say, I wasn't so impressed. At one point I dropped a course because it fell into the realm of irrelevance. I know I can go back and finish the certificate program anytime in the next year, heck I even have cash credit towards another course... but I likely won't use them. It's not that there isn't valuable information to be learned here, it's that it's not tax deductible. Not tax deductible? Isn't post secondary education considered deductible? Well, not according to the letter I received this week saying they had wrongly issued me a T2202E... That's the second time in my SFU career that their admin department has screwed up costing me money, time and suffering in the tax department. Once it even resulted in me being audited... as a student! I want to scream at the top of my lungs, "Get it together! You're an institution!" But I refrain, I have to save my energy for another looming accountant bill which is where this path leads. Hindsight is 20/20, and the grass is always greener at UBC.

In any case, when you sign up for a course here, you not only get a lot of great information from instructors who are professionals in their fields, you also get a course package that includes all the books and materials required, note paper, even pens and pencils. One intensive two-week workshop I took even included a dinner and fireworks cruise in the tuition fee. There are also plenty of free events put on throughout the year, such as author talks, that you can attend just by signing up. The campus is compact, but it's quite nice, and there are coffee shops in the building and just around the neighbourhood for getting to know your classmates better. SFU Harbour Centre is great for continuing ed - convenient, safe, and attractive.

I was so excited at the rigor of this school and the amazing faculty and students that make up this wonderful community, and I definitely wasn't wrong. I'm originally from the states, (Colorado) but my parents and I packed our bags into our little civic and headed towards British Columbia, Canada! It was a long trip but definitely worth the drive after seeing such a BEAUTIFUL campus right by the harbor, right in the center of Granville Island. I did attend a few classes but personal issues of mine had finally come to the surface and I wasn't able to complete my studies there. However, even from a short time being there and being a student at such a badass university like Emily Carr, I was definitely a bit taken back with awe and excitement of all of the amazing works of art, ideas, and innovations that come out of that school. It is a bit competitive to get into, you have to go through a lot of tedious application steps including the biggest one being your portfolio and your statement of intent, but once you get accepted, you'll want to go there and stay there forever. The place is absolutely amazing, what a great setting and a great school that offers world-class education for all of its students. If you're into art and design and looking for a moderately priced school in Canada and comparing that to OCAD, I would definitely choose Emily Carr. And if you've been accepted, get ready to work hard... VERY HARD because obviously they're reputable for a reason, and you have to match that and prove something of yourself. Good luck to all!

What an absolute shame and scam. I attended their in house informational session. The…read morereceptionist was polite and well prepared with documentation for me to review. And then they ushered me to meet with an advisor. The advisor asked me what program I had questions about, I responded I wanted him to tell me what to expect in general about the counselling tracts they offered. He then pulled up the web page and proceeded to tell me all the programs listed that they do not, in fact, teach. He told me they only actually offer 4 of the listed programs but that the rest are "coming soon". I asked him about courses transferring to other programs they offered, I.e. certificate to diploma studies, he had no idea and had to look on the website to compare course to course. I the asked him about accreditation and he said they in fact do not have any accreditation agreements or relationships valid with CACCF or ACCT and that the representation on the website of such a relationship was a mistake.... he assured me it would be fixed in the next 2 or 3 days. CACCF also informed me that they do NOT have any active accreditation with this "school". The representation of accreditation organizations where it does not exist is offensive and highly misleading. During the whole process the intake worker kept saying "if I am honest with you" and then pointing out areas of their website and documentation that actually were not accurate. In less than 15 minutes of a one hour informational session they disclosed so much inaccuracies and smoke and mirrors the best move I made was walking out. As a person with secondary education experience of enrollment and attendance, everything about this place seems off and sketchy.

It is one I had not seen in quite some time, and seeing it again sure ignited a wealth of memories of my very many 'UBC days'. The book: The University of British Columbia - A Souvenir -- by George Woodcock and Tim Fitzharris. A quote from the forward: ".............. a lasting reminder of this special environment for anyone who has ever visited or been a part of it". For me, those days started in the late-1950's, and continued through to the mid-1960's. UBC was definitely a "special environment" -- it changed and dominated my life in such wonderful, exciting, and fulfilling ways.

I really wanted to visit the Harry Potter-esque section of the Ridington Room. - $18 to access the beautiful Beaty Museum? Man, wish it was free. + lol they have a nude beach right by campus. About 300 steps down Trail 6. There were only 5 ppl down there, all clothed. Prob cuz it was cloudy and cold. It rained a little. As for my paid parking, per my parking receipt and my G Pay bill: $8 for 2hr + $0.85 service fee = $8.85, but as for my bank statement, it's: $6.53 USD + $0.19 foreign transaction fee. The conversion 1.37 CAD = 1 USD checks out. No biggie.

I would like to say that LaSalle College in Vancouver is a diamond in the rough. I was pleasantly…read moresurprised by their Fashion Design program. LaSalle's fashion program strongest part would have to be their pattern drafting, sewing and illustration. The sewing and pattern drafting instructor is highly educated on patter drafting having apprenticed with a German patter drafter who wrote 3 books on the subject of how to make tailored garments. I believe LaSalle is the only school in Vancouver who teaches its students how to make your own blocks from scratch. Other school starts you up with pre made blocks. I came from a sewing background and still my skills in sewing improved dramatically. Other students, who had never sewn before starting the course, did amazingly well for beginners. I was blown away by our illustration instructor. She will make you improve whatever skill you have in drawing 100 times if you work hard every day. It will pay off. The campus location is great. It is right by all the downtown sky trains and the space of the school is quite nice. It's not new but the working area is big. While I was going there, all the teachers were excellent and since it's still a small school you will get a lot of one on one with all of the instructors. The school always encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities. Even though it is up to the student we are constantly hearing about fashion shows and participating at Vancouver Fashion Week. I have recently graduated in 2011 and secured a post graduate work permit. Currently, I got an interview with Cirque Du Soliel, which has always been my dream. I think LaSalle's reputation helped me get this interview because it is a logo that is recognized internationally. There are some really fine people there. They are very accepting and knowledgeable in their fields. There are no complaints, only praise. Most of my issues come from dealing with the administration staffs, particularly the people in charge of student registration. Most of them seem either very unhappy and just plain dismissive. My dad was rejected domestic tuition despite his PR status still being valid and is renewing. The person in charge didn't even let him explain and immediately just decided to disallow him to register in some courses. He had to contact another person who is a senior supervisor to get it sorted out. Immigrants have to through this sort of bureaucracy everyday and to see it happen in an institution of learning is disheartening. Regardless, it won't affect my opinion of VCC. I still think it is a great place for post-secondary education. I just hope that the staff will be more caring and mindful in the future.
