Coleman's Sewing Machine and Sharpening Service

I asked a lot of people about a sewing machine repair shop in town and I got a couple of…read morerecommendations for Coleman's and Google offered an option at Hancock Fabrics. Well Hancock said they did not have anyone there to repair machines (said year and years and years ago they did, but no longer) so I gave Coleman a ring. The first thing I liked was that he didn't have ridiculous hours like a lot of places in town - he's open 6 days a week and open until 6pm on weekdays. I took my machine in and that's when I noticed he also offered knife sharpening! I was really excited because I didn't know of anyone in town who did this anymore (since Sugarbakers went out of business) and so I told him I'd be back with my kitchen knives. Within a couple days he called back with an estimate on my machine and I decided not to get it repaired because it was old and I got it really cheap and what the repairs would cost me, I could buy a new machine! So Coleman gave me some recommendations on brands and where I could find one locally. He also gave me a lead on a man in town that might be interested in buying my old machine! I thought that was cool and nice of him to do. I dropped off my kitchen knives at the same time I picked up my machine. I had 7 knives to sharpen, ranging from a normal chef's knife to a serrated blade and a santoku blade too. He had them all ready in about a day and a half and they were SUPER sharp! My only regret is that I didn't get a BEFORE picture because my knifes were in bad shape! Every single one had nicks and pieces chipped off the blades from using a hand held knife sharpener (side note: don't waste your money on those, even if they are less than $10! There is a reason they are so cheap!); he restored all of my blades and the knives are amazing again! They are sharp and just what I hoped for! In total it cost me $30 with tax to get 7 knives done vs. replacing them all for about $500! I plan to take several of my smaller knives (paring knives) in soon and I will probably have him re-do them all in about 6 months since I use them so often and there's nothing more dangerous in a kitchen than a dull blade! Also, side note: he's ex-military (Go Navy!) so I was happy to support him even more! If you need sewing machine repairs or knife sharpening, this is the place to go in San Angelo!
