The owner, Jon, reached out to me directly to help me get my daughter's make up classes scheduled. Not only did he take the time to listen to my frustrations but he really cared about helping me. It was originally so frustrating (and front desk was so rude) that I just gave up and decided to deal with losing the the makeup classes. However, Jon and his director, Cori, got everything sorted out. They now have an app that makes things easier. And most importantly, my daughter had so much fun. She was smiling all throughout her lesson. Not sure if the rude lady still works there but when we went in, it was a pleasant experience. We took my daughter here last summer and had a pretty good experience. Our instructor was Ms. Rylee, and she was friendly and mostly helpful with swim instruction. She took the time to explain things when we were new to the class and always offered to help if we needed it. The baby and me class is very basic and repetitive, but we kept up with it for a few months and then decided to revisit swim classes once my daughter got a bit older. We re-enrolled our daughter a few weeks ago, and this time Ms. Jenna was our instructor. During our first class, I was put off when she didn't introduce herself or even take a second to explain what was happening/show us how to do the skills during the different portions of the class. My daughter was also nervous and was crying at times, and Ms. Jenna was visibly annoyed by this. Since I had such a bad experience with that first class back, I asked my husband to take my daughter to the next class. He had the same experience with Ms. Jenna, so we decided we didn't want to continue with lessons there. The next day I called to cancel our membership, and I also just wanted to let the front desk know that one of their instructors was losing them business. I was promptly hung up on when I mentioned that we did not enjoy Ms. Jenna. These are a few takeaways from our experience at Simi Valley Aquatics: It is decorated like a pirate ship which makes it fun, and my daughter really enjoyed that. There are showers/changing areas, which is nice, but sometimes they are all taken and you have to wait. Pool temperature is always nice. Bathrooms are dirty and always smell like sewage. The swim sessions are short to begin with, and it has been my experience that they typically start class a few minutes late and end a few minutes early, which can make you feel like you aren't getting your money's worth. read more

We have been bringing my 5 year old daughter here before, during and now after the pandemic. We have had great experiences with the swim teachers helping my daughter learn how to swim. We have had terrible experiences with the women working the front desk. Impolite and rude on several occasions. We recently returned for a swim lesson and I was in shock of what the under age swim teachers were wearing. All the girls who are swim teachers had there butt Cheeks completely exposed. One girl was even wearing what looked like a thong bikini. My 5 year old daughter pointed and asked me why does that girl have her butt out mom. I find this very disturbing that these girls are underage and dressed this way in-front of grown men and children. It was very uncomfortable. I find it sad that this business is ok with this happening. read more

We started swim lessons a couple months ago for our 3 and 1 year old boys, in prep for summer trips/activities. We recently went to Great Wolf Lodge for 3 days to kick off summer. I was in the little kid area with both boys while my husband was off with our 2 older kids. The 1 year old lost his footing (water was 2 ft.) as I was reaching for him, to help him up, he immediately flipped himself and started floating on his back. I. Was. Shocked! He spent his first month of lessons screaming and having us question if he should even be doing them. Something clicked a few weeks ago, so, seeing that he actually was still getting SOMETHING even through the tears, made it ALL WORTH IT. He's a completely different baby at his lessons now. No more crying. No more anxiousness. He plays, he listens, he's learning. He's becoming a confidently little water baby. Thank you to both Jenna's for their patience and grace every week with our boys. And thank you to everyone at Simi Aquatics for reassuring me every single week. Simi Valley Aquatics has done wonders for my daughter. She had poor experiences with 2 previous swim lesson facilities, and had become afraid of swimming lessons. I was starting to worry that she would never learn to be safe in the water. The front office was so welcoming, and after listening to how fearful my daughter was, recommended the perfect instructor. She was so patient, checking my daughter's comfort level as they progressed. I am amazed that my daughter is now swimming laps, practicing stokes and doing flip turns, after starting as a terrified non-swimmer. I took my 1.5 year old son to SVA 2 years ago. We did one session of the baby and me class (I believe it was 4 weeks) it wasn't a great experience. My son who was confident and loved the water ended up being more afraid of the water after our session. The teachers encourage you to fully submerse your baby in the water because "your child will know to hold their breath after you blow on them." Of course that wasn't always the case, and I saw other children, including my son, get choked up by the water. After speaking to a friend who teaches swim (in another state), I realized that this method may work for some babies. But it certainly isn't the most gentle way for you to get a child comfortable in the water and it's a sure fire way scare them. I spoke to the teacher about my concerns, and he said I would still have to try it in the next class. My son got so nervous about going under water that he began to cry whenever we started to sing the little jingle about a submarine that is used when prepping to go under. So I chose not to sign up again. After that we did private classes with a much more relaxed instructor. By the end of that time our son was at least comfortable in the water again. Last summer I was pregnant and didn't have it in me to do classes with my son. This summer we chose to do private classes again. This brings me to why I'm doing a review 2 years later. Now my son is really anxious about putting his face under water. He likes the pool, and is comfortable with pretty much every other aspect of his classes. But he barely will put his face in enough to blow bubbles. Of course I can't say for sure. But I feel like at least some of his uneasiness is due to his experience at SVA. So I wanted to share my experience just in case there is another parent who is second guessing a practice that may make them uncomfortable and also to warn others on what to look out for if they do decide to proceed with classes. My daughter been coming here for only month when they had to close due to maintenance repair. I scheduled a make up classes at the front desk for the 2 days that they're closed. Today I check my bank and it showed that there is a charge. I called and spoke to Jennifer and asked what those charges are for and she said that it was for the date that supposedly for make up class. When I explained to her it was for the make up classes, she said "I don't know, I have to check on that". After 15 minutes she called me back saying that they will be reversing the charge but it will take 3-5 days but she still don't know what happened". So apparently, the front desk didn't update their system. No communication between their staff at all! I was so furious that I had to wait 3-5 days to get a credit back when they're not supposed to charge my card at all! When I expressed my frustration to Jennifer she said that there's nothing they can do but to wait then HANG UP ON ME! For those of you wanted to sign up for their classes, make sure you have proof of every transaction because they don't communicate with each other! read more

My first impression of Simi Valley Aquatics is that they have very friendly staff, and an awesome atmosphere. The first time you walk into Simi Aquatics it is decorated so adorable. There is even a "Blast" from a cannon shot into the wall from the "Pirates". It's definitely my kids favorite thing when they come in. Doing the free trial class they offer is great because it gives us the ability to check out the classes and facility beforehand before committing to anything. The instructors are just fantastic and my kids are learning so much! My youngest is water safe and can roll to his back when he jumps into the pool and floats and then gets back to the wall. I had my son (4) and daughter (3) in classes for about 3 months. I absolutely loved doing semi private lessons, just the two of them. I loved Chantel (but she left sadly), Megan was really sweet and good, Riley was also very good. We had another instructor too who I didn't like, because she totally back tracked my son who was getting so confident! She outright told me that she let him lose his breath underwater to push him to kick and roll over. What the H? Despite that experience, overall I think the facility is awesome! It's all about the kids. Mine definitely could jump in and kick to the surface, swim a bit and roll and float. They also mastered climbing out of the pool, which is actually a skill. Seriously only left because it was just way too freaking expensive! read more

I had the best experience with Ms. Jenna. I took my daughter to a class and was a little bit nervous because my daughter screams and cries (like normal children) when she sees or goes in water that isn't a bath tub. I want to be able to enjoy the pool with her and was told how this was the place to be. I am visiting my in-laws on vacation and thought oh why not. Ms. Jenna was INCREDABLE. She walked up to us and introduced herself, explained to me what was going to happen. Asked if I had any questions or concerns. She spoke to my daughter and calmed her down right away and just completely took my breath away. It was the first time I could enjoy the water with my daughter without wanting to cry or pull my hair out. By the time we were done my daughter was crying because we had to leave. If you have a little one and are in the Simi Valley or near by area for whatever reason, MS. JENNA IS THE ONE TO ASK FOR. The staff upfront is so welcoming. The atmosphere is perfect. This place is the holy grail of swim places. First of all, ITS INDOOR. Take that weather! Secondly, it's super cute! They have this tropical/ pirate theme that made my kids go nuts. Plus they are always playing this steel drum music and you can close your eyes and pretend that you are on vacation instead of around a bunch of screaming children who are both excited and terrified at the prospect of swimming. The teachers seem genuinely to like kids and I'm not going to lie I wouldn't blame them if they were burnt out and crazy but they seemed to actually like their jobs which was refreshing to see. The classes aren't horribly priced and afterward they have showers so you can get all of that chlorine smell off your kids before putting them into your mom mobile. Overall, it's awesome! read more

This place is really great. I signed my 10 month old up for baby and me classes expecting for her to learn pool safety, at least how to flip on her back to avoid drowning. Baby and me doesn't involve any of that, it is all just about making the baby more comfortable in the water. I have a pool at home so my baby was already comfortable in water and after 6 classes of the exact same thing, I realized she wasn't going to learn any life saving techniques. The atmosphere is very warm and loving so it was enjoyable. It's all indoor and the room with the 2 pools are heated as well as the pools being heated. We sing about 5 songs while submerging and tossing the babies in the air, putting their ears in water, back floating and jumping off the edge of the pool. So definitely a fun time with my baby. I was just looking for my baby to learn how to not drown so since I didn't get that I was a little disappointed. I could do individual lessons that would teach her that but I'd rather do that at my own home where she'll actually be swimming. read more

I love this place! The staff are very friendly to start off the receptionist very friendly and always greet you. Moving on the lockers the paint on the wall is awesome. My daughter and i love the whole pirate ship.Bathroom lockers where very clean. My daughter was a bit scared at first to get in the pool. The pool was very nice temperature, warm. The instructor was very hands on what to do. My daughter got to play with the toys aka the tools to teach you how to swim. She loved it!.. Needless to say she got the hang of it and was crying because class was over. We are still learning but she gets very excited when it's time for swim class! The receptionist always says goodbye and hand her a little treat, of course what kid does not like it. I took both of my kids here- 2 very different temperaments and learning styles- so I am going to give this swim school the fair review that it deserves. And that is, they do a FAIR job of teaching our youngsters how to swim... but they make their money off of you, and there certainly can be improvements. Prices are as follows (as of the time I went- they may have changed): Baby and Me- $17 for 30 minute class Group- $22 for 30 minute class Private- $27 for 15 minute class I have done all 3 with my oldest, who is very timid but will make progress if you are consistent and kind of firm with him. He plateau'd with the baby and me at around age 2, so I moved him to private, since they won't allow you to take group lessons until age 3. He hated the private, since it was a different instructor every time, and it would take him almost the whole 15 minutes before he started enjoying himself. They gave us the option of back-to-back lessons for $50, which at first sounded outrageous, but we were gonna hang the expense and do it until they told us they had no openings unless I wanted to bring him to swim twice per day. (No thank you). Once he turned 3 we signed him up for group lessons, which he tended to do well in especially with a partner, but the inconsistency with instructors was difficult. He worked well with the instructors he knew and liked, but then they'd change it up, and whenever he was with a new person he would be back to square one with his skills. It also seemed like they were trying to push us toward private lessons, since there never seemed to be any openings, and the front desk regularly gave us our reminder that they'd have to cancel our class (the one class our work and school schedules permit us to attend) if there were not 3 students. My youngest was pretty easy, and he enjoyed the baby and me class. He was jumping into the pool on his own before age 2. I wanted to sign him up to be in the same class as his brother, since their skills are about the same at this point, but the group lessons did not allow under age 3. I understand safety precautions, but every child is different. Last concern to address (and possibly most important) is the scheduling, as it is not very working parent friendly. I work nights and weekends, and my days off are mostly Mondays and Tuesdays. Plus, my kids are in preschool from Tuesday to Friday, which leaves only Monday as my free day, and sometimes Saturday if I don't have to work. They literally have no baby and me classes on Mondays, and it was very difficult getting our Monday morning group class scheduled. If you have to miss your class, even if you call in advance, it goes to a "makeup lesson," which never expire but good luck making it up when there are no openings! They are very strict on this too. I've even spoken with the instructors about this, and many of them disagree with the policy. We will most likely be back, as we are sitting on at least $200.00 in makeups (!!!), and the kids do enjoy their swim lessons and their instructors. I just wish they'd be a little more accommodating and responsive to the needs of individual kids. read more

Signed my toddler up for private lessons to hopefully learn a few things to help with safety around pools. I have known too many kids who have fallen in and, to me, just getting an extra 10 seconds could be that difference. While we couldn't continue due to a move just from those few short lessons my son now puts his own face into the water and holds his breath and also has no problem just floating on his back while I hold him. I don't even know where to begin! My daughter has learned so much in a years worth of swim lessons. She is 3 and I love knowing that if she were to fall into a pool, I know that she can float, regain control, and swim her way back to a wall. My 8 month old also has started in the mommy and me class. He used to be terrified of water. Now, he loves it! He can float, hold his breath under water for a few seconds, and is starting kicks. The staff, from the front desk to the instructors are so amazingly friendly and helpful! Everyone knows each other, and they take the time to know your child. The decor is very bright, colorful, and fun for kids. Love the showers on site so you can wash up and get going! We love Simi Valley Aquatics! My 1 year old (Leah) has been going to Savannah all summer and she LOVES her. Savannah keeps it fun and engaging and Leah looks forward to swimming with her every Tuesday. Right now she's learning how to be comfortable in the water, going under and pulling herself up on the steps. It's amazing how confident she's become in the last 2 months. I'm most amazed with my 4 year old. When we started these classes in June at Level 2. Logan wouldn't even jump tp my husband in the pool, hated going under water and always wore floaties. Two months later and my son is jumping in on his own, diving in the shallow end for rings and hasn't worn his floaties in over a month. He's at a level 3 now in a group setting and he enjoys it. What a fun place to learn to swim! The moment you walk in the front doors, you are transported to the tropical beaches of some island paradise. Someone was very creative when designing this place. There is even a cannon ball in the wall that looks like it had been shot at the front desk. The pools themselves are nice and warm which helps the little ones be more comfortable when getting in for the first time. The showers are also very neat...looks like a big castle and even the kids who don't like showers, end up spending a good 15 minutes in there. The instructors are on a whole other level and cannot compare to any of the other swim schools in the area. They are patient, knowledgeable and are truly enthusiastic about teaching people (6 month old to adult) how to swim. LOVE this place and HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for lessons! read more

We started swim classes with our two-year-old son and later our one-year-old daughter. Both were timid in the water and we were looking for an opportunity to teach them to at least float to be safe around pools. Simi Valley Aquatics helped our children meet and exceed that goal. Because of our skilled, caring, and patient swim teacher, Savannah, our kids not only float, but also are confident in the water and enjoy swimming. From what I have observed over the last year, because Savannah and the other swim instructors are both nurturing and firm, the children quickly learn to trust and respond to them and are able to progress into stronger swimmers with solid fundamentals.
