The proverbial straw on the camel's back was when I was told by the dentist, while she basically had both hands in my mouth, that she believed "every single word" that Trump was saying at the time. "But not about the virus, right?", I asked; "Especially that", she answered. "You really drank the Koolaid", I suggested; "It's all a joke," she replied. This was late spring 2020, when it was increasingly clear that such a position was moronic - particularly for a healthcare professional. Vote however you like. Think whatever you want. But don't discount a pandemic, while providing health services, with your hands in my facehole. I found a new dentist immediately, and followed the given procedure to transfer my records - but that took months, including two letters and several phone calls. I postponed writing this review to make sure there was nothing else needed from them before I burned this bridge. But I'll never go back, I'm embarrassed that I continued going for as long as I did, and I'm somewhat comforted to see that others here have had similar experiences and that it was, as I've come to realize, terrible service - not me.

I may be wrong, it may have been Maria, the office manager. But that team of two and how they lead from the top down, leaves a lot on the table to be desired. I felt like I was in HS trying to communicate with the lowest of integrity. Treat people with respect and be sincere, and humble. It will go a long way. Dr. Ko can do a lot better on her own - those two or three staff weigh her down. Lastly, there was one other young lady who had great character, smoked slot, being pleasant - they can learn from her. I recommend Dr. Ko follow the Hippocratic Oath and leave First Street Dental - You're reputation is much more valuable. Dr. Ko, you had such Class, poise, intelligence - just nice to be around. Unethical Practice…read more My son was the second patient scheduled that morning. While we were waiting, a staff member came into the lobby and said another patient wanted to speak with her father. At first, I thought the patient simply wanted reassurance or support before her procedure. A short time later, I was called back because my son supposedly "wanted to speak to me." However, when I entered the room, my son did not say a word. He was already connected to an IV and oxygen. While he was in that vulnerable position, the staff member told me they needed to add an additional procedure costing $750 that was not covered by insurance, along with another $1,500 to remove an additional tooth. What concerned me even more was that I watched three other families appear to go through a very similar experience. Parents were called into the treatment area after their children were already prepared for surgery and were then presented with expensive additional procedures. In my opinion, this creates an extremely high-pressure and emotionally manipulative situation. Parents should not feel cornered into making major financial decisions while standing in front of their frightened child who is already hooked up to an IV. We were also told that without the additional procedure, my son might not heal properly. I have had four other children, both minors and adults, undergo tooth extractions, and all of them healed without this added procedure. While I was in the office, I also spoke with an older woman who told me she had filed three grievances against this dental group through her insurance company. I cannot speak to anyone else's complete medical circumstances, but I can speak to what I personally witnessed. The way these additional charges were presented felt unacceptable and unethical. Treatment options, costs, insurance coverage, and alternatives should be discussed clearly before the patient is prepared for surgery--not after the IV and oxygen are already in place. Parents should ask for all recommended procedures and costs in writing before the appointment and should not be afraid to request a second opinion.

While periodontic work is never painless, they do what they can to make it as comfortable, quick and stress-free as possible. The office staff are always honest and helpful. While I have had them forget things occasionally, like sending in a prescription, they're quick to own up to their mistake and correct it. I do have two minor complaints about this office though, which aren't deal killers. One is that they do not process all of your benefits for you. I have AFLAC Dental for supplemental coverage, and their office will not file those claims. They instead insist that I submit these myself. What makes this awkward is that AFLAC will often pay THEM instead of me, so I have to drive back in to get reimbursed. This has happened twice now, and it's inconvenient and a little annoying. Two is just a personal thing. Their office decor is weird, discomforting and a little bizarre. Huge cast figures in gold of human bodies on the wall. Black velour furniture. And dozens of blank white shelves filled with what looks like small round plastic fake plants. It's like being surrounded by an army of chia pets. It's not a warm, relaxing atmosphere, but it's a minor thing that doesn't reflect on their work at all. I'm sure there's a professional decorator in Simi who could fix this in a day or two.
