The Rabbi has so many talents as a religious leader, educator, musician, scholar, and soul searcher. Some go to pray but I go to question and learn. There is a real sense of community. The Rabbi relates to everyone young and old but has a very special relationship with children. One child called Or Shalom his "Sing-a-gogue." One of the favorite activities is the Rabbi's Sing-along, story telling on Sunday. There are lots of activities, speakers, movies, Zumba, Healing Circle, etc. and an outstanding Hebrew School. Many of the students who have graduated return to volunteer as teachers' aides. Some of them become "teen cantors". Like most synagogues, Or Shalom needs more young families to join. You can also expect to pay for: Perpetual Care, which we negotiated as included, since we purchased 4 plots. Clergy Fee, when you don't belong to Beth Israel. Everyone was happy. The new building is spacious, modern, yet cozy. The congregants were very welcomming. The Rabbi (on the young side with 3 young children) seemed very affable and had a great singing voice. (I latter learned he had been a Cantor.) The service was relaxed and surprisingly engageing. (At least it surprised me.) We were searching for a synaguge mainly for our 2 boys then 6 and 8. To be continued - My son now 11 is requesting the computer to play his games.

Even when you have been an active parishioner since 1974. It's alright to go to service, happily give your monetary contribution faithfully. In addition to yearly memorial masses for deceased family members- along with the applicable fees paid to the church of course. If you do happen to stop by on "off hours"... does The Lord actually have "off hours"? Gods House Does Not. But human beings do. But I digress. Be careful going to the church during the so called off hours- otherwise, you will unfortunately see a very different side of the people at the Lords House. You will have "someone" (a person who will not give you a name or their title) scream at you to get off of private property during those "off hours". In addition, you will be told that the person is calling the police. One thinks.... calling the police for what reason? But do not ask: leave quickly. Otherwise you will become the subject of more rage and bullying, along with the threat of police "arresting you". Ahhh, Imagine this: being "arrested" while stopping by to say a prayer on what a human being deems to be "off hours". Mind you- those off hours are during the day. I'm not speaking of the middle of the night where there can be a potential for robbery. Bright, sunny, middle of the day.... any day of the week. I know the Lord will consider it a sin for a human being to treat another human being in this manor. Not only on HIS Property, at HIS House but Anywhere in HIS Universe. This church is a prime example of what is wrong with our Catholic religion. Sadly, after 44 years of faithful attendance, I will be going to a church that is more welcoming to its parishioners and humanity as a whole.
