AVOID AT ALL COSTS! My review mirrors a review from last year which only tells me Simcha has been and will probably always be a "sketchy" broker. He showed my partner and I two apartments in December which were overpriced for their size but what do you expect in Brooklyn. He hustled us to get him the application fees and our documentation as fast as possible which we did seamlessly. Within a week, we signed a lease and handed over our broker fee ($1450). We were stupid for giving him money before obtaining the keys to the apartment - please don't make our mistake! While Simcha said we will be waiting for a certificate of occupancy for the apartment, he was EXTREMELY ADAMANT AND CONFIDENT THAT the landlord was able to secure the apartment for us by 2/15/19. He said, "We have to wait for that document for the landlord to countersign but he has so many properties, he knows how to do this quickly." Throughout December 2018, January 2019, and the beginning of February 2019, he was radio silent unless we reached out to him. A week before 2/15/19 (our move in date on the lease) I asked if we could hire movers, and he said to wait. It wasn't until I spoke with the landlord and the superintendent directly the same day that I found out the apartment won't be ready until March 2019. Simcha was very communicative until he received his broker fee and literally could care less about what was actually happening to our apartment after he was given the money. He didn't even care enough to let us know there were examinations happening through January and February 2019 which would push back our move in date. I'm unsure if it's because we are people of color or a young couple, but I feel completely discriminated against. The landlord returned our security deposit and last month of rent. When asking Simcha for the broker fee back, he said he did his job and doesn't have to refund his. His company - Tapiro Realty - echoed the same sentiment. They also said he may have spent it already and "Simcha is a really nice guy and has two or three broker fees per month so he can't afford to give this one back." I didn't ask for his financial situation nor did I need a judge of his character by a coworker yet that was all they could provide. I'm unsure if you, fellow Yelp reader, believe Simcha did $1450 worth of work but I certainly know what $1450 worth of work looks like. Brokering a lease based on false information, strewn with infrequent communication about that information, and subsequently having that lease never be executed doesn't warrant $1450. Please be careful and run for the hills if ever you see this guy's name! On the other hand, we found an amazing apartment by a wonderful broker named Terance Philip. To avoid any unnecessary and seemingly unprofessional interactions/business, please refer to him! read more
