Silvia was incredibly helpful with a last-minute bustle emergency for the historical costume I planned to wear during Car Week! I called ahead from Paso Robles, and she kindly had me come in as soon as we arrived in town. Both Silvia and her assistant were so welcoming, helpful, and kind. Silvia quickly came up with a clever solution that truly saved the day, and even with the rush turnaround, she had it finished surprisingly quickly. I'm so grateful for her expertise and willingness to help on such short notice. Thanks to Silvia, I'll be looking very stylishly 1905 this weekend! Highly recommend. read more

BEWARE! Silvia's Alterations is a joke! My Mom took her dress about 2 and a half weeks ago or so to be shortened. The dress was promised to her 8/12. When my Mom went in to pick it up, she was told it wasn't ready because of the car show, and that her dress would now be ready yesterday 8/17. Guess what?! My Mom went to pick it up the morning of 8/17, and IT STILL WAS NOT READY! The dumb lady now told her that she could comeback between 3 and 4pm. My mom went back at 3:30, and it was finally finished. My Mom didn't need anything done to the dress except to shorten it. Nothing else. It should not have taken as long as it did. Promises mean nothing at Silvia's Alterations. This place is a joke, and the work isn't even that great. She didn't even knock a few bucks off the $100 charge for the inconvenience. Beyond horrible customer service. Do yourself a favor and take your items elsewhere. read more

Highly recommend Silvia's Alterations! A huge thank you to Silvia and her daughter Nataly for their amazing work on the mother of the bride dress and father of the bride suit. The tailoring was completely professional, and everything was delivered exactly on time as promised. We will definitely be back! read more

Silvia did such an AMAZING job on my wedding dress! I needed it taken in quite a bit and the dress was a difficult satin and chiffon material to work with but Silvia did all of this flawlessly. She was also so sweet in helping me take some videos on how to lace the corset and do the bustle to show my bridal party to help be prepared come wedding day. I would absolutely recommend her for wedding dress alterations and her price is very fair! read more

Sylvia's Alterations is the best tailoring game in town. I have been a loyal customer since 2012. They have taken in (and taken out) suits; hemmed pants; shortened the sleeves of a leather jacket, and every time they've hit a home run. The grand slam was when they tailored my soon-to-be wife's wedding dress for our wedding in June 2025. It was masterful work; she had several people ask her if it was a custom wedding dress. Thank you for your great work and professionalism! read more

I initially went to another seamstress and he said he couldn't fix what I wanted on my Satin dress. I went to Silvias, and she reassured me she could easily fix this. Service was great and fast. My overall experience was 10/10. read more

I cannot recommend Silvia enough!! She did a phenomenal job with my wedding dress this summer, and went absolutely above and beyond to get it JUST right even when I thought it was good enough. I'm sharing before and after photos here to show the quality of her work. My dress designer had convinced me to do split sizing, and when it arrived the dress fit terribly around my hips and waist. By the time Silvia was finished with it, the dress fit like an absolute glove!! The process was great too. Silvia explained everything very kindly and gently, her daughter was straightforward and efficient with scheduling, and Silvia even insisted on doing several last-minute fittings in the days leading up to my wedding, after I got a horrible flu and lost ~5 pounds two weeks before the big day (I do not recommend). But she was so kind, wanted it to be perfect, worked on it in her off time to make sure it would be ready, and she honestly saved the day for me! I would recommend her to any bride looking for someone who is skilled, professional, and also clearly cares. read more

I took in a pair of very expensive The Row flowy pants to be hemmed up and one pant leg was made one inch shorter than the other, and the hems are uneven around the bottom. I wouldn't trust them with your expensive items. They ruined a $1000 pair of pants. read more

I have been a long standing customer. Sylvia and her daughter have been nothing but fair and fabulous. They are an honest hard working family. I recently had an urgent need for alterations to my wedding dress. Not only was this of great importance given the occasion, the dress was designed out of the country and I wanted to pay my respects to the designer. I needed to make a small but important adjustment. Sylvia did a beautiful job!! She's so sweet and took the time to work with me. (Sylvia also hemmed my husbands and sons pants for the special day) It made for a joyful celebration!! Silvia and staff are highly skilled, consummate professionals. The pride that they take in what they do, is absolutely evident in the outcome of their work. I discovered Silvia's 5-star reputation from my sister, who has trusted them numerous times with many important items, e.g., wedding attire, high-end pieces, etc.. Therefore, I didn't have to think twice about where to go when I recently needed a new of jeans modified (shortened). Highly recommend! read more

NEVER DOING BUSINESS AGAIN WITH THIS UNAPOLOGETIC BUSINESS. Came to them a year ago and I was happy with their work but this time around they did a very lousy job with my 3 dresses and they misplaced one of my dress. One dress the cut was messy, one dress was misplaced so it was late and was not able to use for the event, the daughter insisted she did a fine job even after admitting misplacing and late with one. Estimated me for a cut and side trim and didn't do that, she only folded it and sew over so the job they estimated me for was not done. And to top it off, she refused to reimburse for the one dress that was not done as estimated and late. No apology nothing and turned around blaming us for the whole situation. We were just trying to point out the facts and she admitted to them but refused to apologize or sympathize with our concerns. They may have been doing this for a long time and I'm sure they do a fine job but mistakes happens and I understand that but she was rude and did not try to help with our concerns. So at the end, we were not able to use the dresses for the event intended. You may do good work at most times but if your character at the moment when things go wrong is what matters at the end. It leaves a bad taste. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! PLEASE READ Most unprofessional business you'll ever set foot in. You will wait weeks to months for your items, and they repeatedly fall through the promised dates they agreed your alterations would be completed by with NO heads up. They do not reach out and waste your time, having you come in to pick up something they haven't even started to work on. In fact I've had two SEPARATE occasions where my things were there for 4 MONTHS!! Both times it was only 1-2 things to be altered! Yes two times they've done this!! The other times I've been in (dozens) everything has been off by weeks. So many times I've come in at the set (and rescheduled, and rescheduled once again) pickup date to be told it hasn't been started yet again!! They know I have deadlines I need the stuff back by but don't care. Every-time I've been in over the years I have been very understanding and kind and gave them another chance because hey, everyone's busy, everyone misses things and after all it's just two people - but this has crossed the line now. They absolutely waste your time and money. Gas is expensive driving a city away on the set pickup date to leave empty handed an average of 3-4 times for every drop off after being told it hasn't even been started on!! Their word is a lie, and all they have are excuses after excuses. Funny how the story always changes The quality of work? Sometimes it's decent, other times its absolutely terrible. They alter the wrong places, do it wrong, leave it half finished, forget to alter items and have very shoddy work. if it's taking MONTHS why is the quality trash??? Also where did all the bad reviews go? Awfully suspicious ... Photos are of alterations to a garment that was there for over 4 MONTHS!! Was given it like this unraveling. Paid over 100+ for this garbage. Go to someone who has integrity and is kind enough to do a decent job read more

I came here to get some tailoring done on a newly purchased suit. Schedule was done over the phone with great communication and efficiency. Social distancing is done properly and everyone wears masks, so no issues there. When I came in for my appointment, Nataly did measurements and asked me about a few different options for number of buttons and pant leg adjustment. No work was done on the jacket because it fit like a glove. The room used for changing and measuring is nice too, with lots of mirrors and natural lighting to let one get a feel for the suit. Work was done in a timely manner and at a reasonable price. I would definitely come back here to get more work done. Cash, card or Venmo accepted. read more

UNAPOLOGETIC AND NO LOGIC! They misplaced my friend jumpsuit, sloppy job on one of the dress and made up a story that she offered to fix the jumpsuit she couldnt find. They never called back to let us know about the status nor apologized. Picked up the jumpsuit thats sewn but did not trim the excess. They blamed us for not trimming it yet they are the seamstress. Silvia's Alterations - Bridesmaid dress - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Monterey, California

I took in a few clothing items for easy repairs. I was in no rush and told them that when asked if there was a certain date I needed them by. So they gave me a date about a week and a half out and I put it in my calendar. Monterey is half an hour from me, so a trip there just to pick up my clothes isn't exactly nothing. I arrived on my pickup day to have her tell me it wasn't ready. I would've been fine if they'd called me to push back the pickup, but that's not what happened. I wasted an hour of driving time because of poor communication and not sticking to when she said it would be ready by. 3 out of the 4 things I had repaired came out fine. The 4th was a shirt with 5 small holes in it (the number of holes was marked down when I took it in). 2 of the holes were not repaired at all. I'll be taking it to some other seamstress closer to me to finish repairing it. Additionally, the main seamstress here only speaks Spanish and has to translate through the other lady here, which..isn't great. I wouldn't mind it terribly if everything else that went bad hadn't happened, but it did, so I'll mention this too. read more

Silvia was incredible at accommodating my last minute requests when I brought my wedding dress in weeks before the event. I wasn't sure the alterations I needed would be possible, but she adeptly identified how best to make my dress perfect in time for the day. Silvia was very sweet. A master tailor. Both Silvia and her daughter Natalie are THE ONLY seamstresses that will tailor my clothing. Superior services. I once took the word of a relic "40" year master tailor that destroyed a beautiful $1,000 suit, charged me $200 in work, and made me look like I was wearing a garbage bag. I'd give Silvia a 6 if I could. She won't over charge you and return your clothing at lighting speed. read more

I chose Silvia's Alterations because of the many recommendations I got from friends and family, and I am super pleased I did. The whole experience was great and everyone is super friendly. I had a bridesmaids dress that was too big in several spots and she was able to basically reconstruct the top of the dress to fit me perfectly. I highly recommend Silvia for all alteration needs. The pricing is super reasonable and she is so kind. read more

Natalie helped with a tough project with rubber patches on sweatshirts. Very good work, done on time and also affordable. 6 stars!!!

Silvia was fantastic! I needed my bridesmaid's dress hemmed for my friend's wedding. I hadn't thought to double check if the dress was too long with my shoes until the week of the wedding, so I was on a tight schedule. Silvia was able to get me in on Monday afternoon to mark up my dress and got it back to me on Wednesday evening. Silvia did beautiful work and was so kind throughout the process, and the length was perfect with my shoes. I wore the dress this weekend and felt beautiful the entire time I was in it. I got a dress hemmed for the army ball coming up. I gave them 2 1/2 weeks to hem a dress and add a zipper to the back. They were not done by the date that I needed the dress for the ball. Thankfully I had another dress on hold at a different Tailor so I didn't have nothing to wear that night. But if I didn't have a Plan B then I wouldn't have had a dress at all. The reason why they didn't have my dress ready was just because of a tag mishap. But that almost ruined my evening. The dress did turn out spectacular when I did get it and I ended up wearing it to the Renaissance Faire. I guess everything did work out in the end. Four stars just because of the mess up. But the dress turned out really well. read more

If I can rate it 100 stars or more I would! When I picked up my dress from Trudy's is came in was too big just less then a month before my wedding and was going crazy trying to find someone to alter my dress and was just getting told it was too last minute. Well I reached out to Sylvia and to keep this story short she took a look at it and said she could do it and have it ready on time. Not only did she alter it but made my dress look so much more better curved to my body then when I first purchased it... when I picked it up she made sure I tried it on one last time to make sure it was perfection! Sylvia and Natalie where just so amazing and I would only go them for any alterations. read more

Needed a bridesmaid dress altered and this place was recommended by other girls in the party. I called and she was able to get me in for a fitting March 24. This is a long over due review! I have gotten majority of my alterations done by Silvia since 2005. From my regular jeans to prom dresses and even my wedding dress about a year and a half ago. I purchased a wedding dress online but when I got it the outcome did NOT AT ALL look like the advertised picture. So i was going to get a new dress but made the decision to take it to Silvia hoping she can recreate it to something new and she absolutely did just that! She is so amazing at what she does and she also super sweet and is always up for a challenge and she definitely conquered it! I highly recommend trusting her with all your alteration needs. You won't be disappointed! If I could giver her more than 5 stars I would, she deserves more than 5 stars. read more

I was in such a pickle after the idiots at Men's Wearhouse screwed up my new suit (with their lazy tailoring shortcuts) that I entered a semi-panicked state of mind. I was out of time to tailor a new suit since the wedding was only less than a week away. I was also new to this town so I didn't really know all the businesses available and didn't know enough "ins" to request a last minute 007 job. Not to mention, I didn't want to use any of my other de-virginized tailored suits for the wedding. It should be brand-spanking new yeah? What could a panicked man then do at this point in time? Enter sweet Silvia. Silvia is a sweet middle-aged Latina who genuinely cares about her line of work as well as her customers. She was already working with my lady to make the necessary adjustments on her dress and was also tailoring a laced wedding jacket from scratch for her to use at the reception. She was also the lady that did all the alterations on our friend's dress who tied the knot last year so she had already proved her exceptional skills with alterations. When I came to her in panic and asked if she could pull of a miracle for me, she gave me a reassuring smile that she would do anything to help my lady and I to have a perfect wedding. I told her that she had three days to work on my suit and said that price was not an issue at all - since I was already desperate to begin with. (I found out later that a rush job was only an additional $20. I'd say that is really cheap when it came to "saving a life", lol.) She asked me to put the suit on so that she could take a look at what had happened and her reaction...was...PRICELESS. If you are a fan of recent GEICO commercials, she had the same groan as the architect of the pyramids Geico commercial. I found it EPICALLY cute and funny. Yet, that also goes to show that the binder clip crap Men's Wearhouse did with the suit was complete blasphemy. She went to work on it immediately - undoing the heretical threading through the night and had me in by the morning to do the proper measurements. Yeah, she pretty much got my suit back to the drawing board. Second day, I was all measured and she went back to working on the suit. Third day, I came back for post-alterations fitting for last minute adjustments. She adjusted according and asked me to come back in the afternoon. I did a final fitting before she sent the suit to be pressed. All I can say is that I'm absolutely thankful for Silvia. She really resurrected my suit after them "Roman Soldiers" at Men's Wearhouse crucified it earlier. Do you want to know how many people asked about my suit that day and how I got the tailoring to be perfect? ENOUGH people to remind me that I know what I'm talking about when it comes to suits unlike those dolts at Men's Wearhouse. (/end rant). Definitely recommend!!! Yelp 100: 62/100 read more

They altered a custom suit I bought a year ago before covid and did an amazing job. I have another suit that needs altering. But I have called them several times no one answers the phone and left messages with no response? They are open by appointments only. I brought my wedding dress to Silvia's just looking for it to be hemmed and taken in just a bit. I left with such a better dress than I ever could have imagined and she was super helpful and so sweet. She ended up taking in the dress, shortening it buy a bunch (which involved her customizing the lace overlay to fit the new length of the dress), tightening the sleeves, adding hidden elastic to the neck line, redoing some of the lace overlay, adding a bra to the inside (I'm not the most endowed), creating a bustle that is gorgeous, and took it in about 3 inches. She is amazing and I would recommend her to anyone in monterey for any alteration job big or small. She is a joy to work with and really a magician with with a sewing needle. read more
