Silverton built a home for my husband and I which was completed in 2022. We purchased the lots separately prior to signing with Silverton. The quality of the home in the end was solid. The communication, however, was less than acceptable. We had a very unique situation which was known from the start, and the home was on a hill in Lago Vista which admittingly was a challenge to build on. Many times we were told its hard to build a home on a home/cliff. If you look around Lago all the homes with a view are normally on a hill. The process started right before Covid, so some delays were out of their control. The home site sat for months often without a word. We were promised weekly updates but that was few and far between. We almost always had to initiate contact for updates. Several conversations with Michael Hamilton he sounded agitated that as a customer spending hundreds of thousands of dollars, we had questions. In one of our emails, he literally replied with "you act as if Silverton owes you some how".
During a design meeting half of the design team was in the same room on a conference call with another client on speaker speaking so loud we could not think about choices being made or hear one another. There was a crisis with another clients flooring, this should have been addressed in another room away from us. We were close to walking out.
The choice of a gas stove was in all of our original paperwork/choices, (propane was purchased too), yet the correct hook ups for gas was not made which would have delayed move in so we settled for an electric stove. I was told the hook up was for the gas grill only. Our paperwork clearly stated a gas stove was purchased through their vendor and also our initial paperwork which we provided. Instead of admitting the mistake, there was a lot of finger pointing.
Head of the design team didn't reply to emails (Linda Grimm advised she doesn't reply to emails, only to texts).
There was a meeting with the entire team about cutting back costs as we were way over our original budget by 150k. We were offered siding for the back of the home vs stucco to save money. We happily agreed. Fast forward a few months and stucco was installed and the cost was going to be passed on to us. We fought back and eventually we were only charged the cost of the siding. To get there wasn't a comfortable conversation and it took multiple.
The wrong kitchen tile color was ordered between Silverton and the supplier. I caught this myself the day before it was to be installed as I saw the tile when it was delivered. This caused a long delay to wait on the correct tile, and the tile was not completed in the kitchen until well after move in day.
Due to a significant life change, I had to sell the home just months after completion. Jason Grimm called me once the home was listed for sale and confronted me to ask why I didn't use them for the sale of the home. I honestly didn't know they were also realtors, but the call was uncomfortable, unprofessional, and frankly Jason came across as entitled.
I want to add PM Dave Jackson was a kind, professional man and he sadly and suddenly passed away right before our move in. Robbie took over and was attentive, but he is not for everyone.
Tips; Read the allowances. For instance, allowances for all appliances was a mere $2000. Refrigerators alone were more than that and they strong arm you into using their more expensive Supplier. Purchase your own lighting. We ordered most of our own and it was cheaper than ordering their standard, plain fixtures and you get more of a custom look. They were fine with this. Get more than 1 bid for landscape and do it earlier than near the end like we did. When you're at the end of a build and time is an issue, you tend to pay more than you normally would. Lesson learned. Hire your own wiring/cable/internet people. Thier contact was good, but I found out later I could have saved hundreds.
As stated in the beginning of my review the home is of solid construction and I would never question that. An honest review gives credit where credit is due. Ont he other hand, customer service can go a long way and a 3 star review could have easily been a 4 to 4.5. I would not choose to build with Silverton again or refer them to a friend or family member. I hope their family doesn't ever have to go through what mine did. People matter. My husband's dream mattered. His last wishes mattered. Your word matters. Its business 101. read more
