I based my choice of this company based on the Yelp rating and reviews. Unfortunately for me, my first time using this company today 10/31/17 was an epic fail. I made the reservation yesterday morning with Glen for a pickup time of 9:15 AM on 11/1/17. I received an email yesterday 10/31 confirming the 9:15 AM pick up time. I was at the designated pickup spot on time but the driver was not there. I called Glen at SilverRide who said the reservation was changed to 9:45. He insisted I was wrong until I told him I have email confirmation, then he said that someone at SilverRide must have moved the pickup time to 9:45 AM. No one notified me or asked in advance if this was okay. The driver arrived 35 minutes late (past 9:15). As we approached the Bay Bridge maze, he asked if I wouldn't mind detouring to pickup a "carpool" passenger so he could use the carpool lane on the Bay Bridge. I said no, the detour won't save time based on the traffic flow. Driver was nice but focused on his own schedule more than mine as a paying customer. Lastly their policy is to only charge 50% of the fixed rate ($220 in my case) if the driver his more than 15 minutes late. I called Glen twice and told him I'd better not be charged more than $110 on my credit card. He said okay, but tonight a charge for $165 appears on my card. I will NEVER use this company again!! read more

I wish that there was better senior transportation options out there, but really, there aren't. Suffice it to say that SilverRide is the best that we will get until someone else can come along and do it better. I have been using their service as a regular 6 rides per week customer, for my mother. There have been several hiccups, but with any service in life, that can be expected at times. What I take issue with currently is two things that occurred recently. The first, was Thanksgiving Day. SilverRide began checking with me more than a week in advance to confirm that my mother still needed a ride on Thanksgiving Day, to which I answered in the the affirmative each time. Totally makes sense that they would do this, given the fact that it's a holiday. After three confirmations, and a fourth call the day before to confirm both ends of the pickup, I was called on Thanksgiving Day by a completely unhelpful woman to tell me that my Mom's ride returning from dialysis to her home was cancelled because no one wanted to drive on the holiday. When I asked this woman why I'd received a confirmation the day before, she referred to those confirmations as "our usual spiel", thereby inferring that the confirmations are actually meaningless. To boot, this same woman said that SilverRide would continue to work on getting a ride and that I would hear a confirmation by 5p the day before. I held no confidence that she was telling the truth. And thank goodness I didn't wait, because that call never came. In the early afternoon, I followed my gut to try and arrange alternate transportation. It was 20% more than SilverRide, but it was the only choice that I had. Then, when I sent an email message to SilverRide with my disappointment, then someone called to say that, no, actually, they found a ride. The latest issue had to do with cancelling on my end, in advance. My mother has had two regular pickups that needed to be cancelled because she's in the hospital. When I received the first confirmation, it was the first day that she was admitted, so easy to know that she would not need her ride. By the second confirmation a few days later, I was unsure if she was going to be released and I told this to SilverRide the day before. I told them that I would be able to confirm the next morning, which was the day of her pickup. They called me, and then I advised that, no, she was not able to be released. They charged me the full $85 anyway, saying that I'd canceled less than 12 hours in advance of the ride. This, despite telling them in advance that I would need to tell them less than 12 hours in advance, because I was waiting on release information. There is one man in particular, who has driven my mother, who is just a delight every time I talk to him. Everyone else that I've talked to or dealt with, not so much. I am 38 years old so not a "Senior" but I occasionally need to have minor procedures done for a messed up neck and I usually cannot get a ride home from the Surgery Center. Since they don't allow you to take an Uber home, my doctor's office recommended trying a medical transport company. One of the companies they recommended was SilverRide and both times I have used them I have been very happy. Glen the driver was on time and even early when the Surgery Center called him to come earlier, he had a nice demeanor and was a good driver. The cost is also reasonable, they will keep your credit card on file and email you the receipt and the drivers don't accept tips. The only thing that was a little odd was when I called the second time to schedule the ride the girl said she couldn't find me and when I spelled my name again she said she finally found me and that my name was spelled wrong. read more

I was scheduled to be out of surgery at 3-3:30pm but wasn't actually ready to leave until 5:30, still the driver was right there on time! He knew the nurses and the procedures, wheeled me to the pharmacy and helped hand my papers over since I was pretty immobile. Out the door into a car/van thingy( minivan? was a bit groggy ), and home with a pleasant conversation all the way. Glad I didn't have my roomate skip work as my exit time got so skewed. This could be a typical review; we called, they came, they delivered. This could be a typical review but it is not because this is not your ordinary Joe-Schmoe Delivery Service. This is SilverRide, a premium service emphasizing seniors, extraordinary in ever way, except in the price, which was exceptionally reasonable. We needed a ride to Stanford, which is in Palto Alto, hours away from our East Bay home. On a good day. When the traffic is humming along on 280 and the freeway down the peninsula is moving at its speed limit. Like never. In other words, we needed a car driver who would not get frustrated with the traffic, who would offer a clean, comfortable ride in a late model car, and who would be willing to cope with the rambling conversations and habits of a couple of rather eccentric old people. One of whom who had driven the route until last November and was likely in interject with plenty of "suggestions." We got it. The ride. Delivered to perfection. By SilverRide. At the appointed hour, a nicely labeled spiffy black car drove up. Each driver ( both coming and going) was attentive and interactive, but most importantly, each driver was very good as a safe driver. We arrived at our lodgings, fresh and on time, and were helped out of our vehicle; the driver was patient and didn't speed away until he had been assured that we were situated. Very nice indeed. A strongly yelped recommendation to both of them and to the service. Oh, and the final icing on the cake. Having arranged to pay by credit card, no money or plastic needed to change hands at our destination. And no tips. They do not accept tips. read more

I can't say enough good things about this service. Therese was AMAZING and made us feel very comfortable. My friend was having an outpatient procedure and I was not able to fly in until the next day. She had to be mildly sedated prior to arrival and was concerned about who would be picking her up and transporting her. Therese made us feel very safe and assured us that she would be well taken care of and safe. She was right! The service was seamless, they arrived on time and picked her up, drove her to the appointment, made certain that she arrived on time and safely. After the procedure she was taken back to her home. They made certain that she was inside safely and comfortably. Surgery of any kind is never fun, some are worse than others. Silver Ride is great! I've used them twice for transportation to outpatient medical procedures. Both times, they picked me up on time and got me to my appointment on time. They were there when I was finished, and got me safely home, even waiting until I was safely in my house before they left. The drivers were friendly, courteous and kind. I don't recall the name of the driver for my first procedure. Eva was my driver for the second procedure, and she was wonderful! We chatted all the way to the appointment and back. She even helped to relieve my anticipation about the procedure on the way there. Based on my experience with them, I highly recommend Silver Ride. read more

I made an online reservation last week (Nov. 29) for a pick-up after a medical procedure scheduled for early tomorrow morning (Monday, Dec. 7). I received an automated reply that indicate my "reservation request has been received and one of our Travel Concierges will contact you in the next 24 hours to complete the process." No one from SilverRide contacted me to confirm; and I had forgotten to follow up myself until today, Sunday, before tomorrow's procedure. When I called, I got their answering service, only to find out that SilverRide is closed on Sunday. Since my clinic will not perform any medical procedure without having pre-arranged transportation, I must now scramble to find someone to pick me up from the hospital at 8:30am. Since I can't rely on their service, I'm not sure I'd give them another chance. read more

What really shows up is someone in their personal car (not as nice as Uber) and the druvers can not be bothered to help you. Even Uber drivers that I have used asked if I needed help. Had to order a special delivery service for a VIP elderly woman and this company seemed to do the job. It is a black Chevy PT Cruiser and the driver actually helped her into and out of the cab. Don't see too many of these vehicles around town, but they seem to realize that the elderly NEED a little bit more than pickup and dropoff. Niche marketing. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Silver Ride for more than 2 years. I will not be using their services anymore because: 1) The driver was 30 mins late for my last pickup. This is representative of a pattern of late pick ups. 2) When I emailed Silver Ride a month ago to ask for a detailed receipt for insurance purposes, they ignored my email. I emailed a 2nd time--also no response. 3rd email--no response. 4th email, 1 month after the first--finally a response, stating that they had an expired credit card and needed me to provide an updated number to provide a receipt. I responded and asked why they didn't tell me this a month ago and instead ignored 3 emails. They still haven't responded. I am not surprised. Customer service tips for Silver Ride-- 1) Have your drivers show up on time when charging someone who has just had a medical procedure and wants to go home $50 for a 10-minute ride. 2) When a customer emails you-----RESPOND. Great solution to being brought home from an outpatient 'procedure' at Kaiser Hospital in SF. I was finished an hour ahead of schedule, and SilverRide's very capable driver got there early to get me, Kaiser having informed them. We had jolly conversation as I was returned to my front door. I don't remember much because I was still under anesthesia, but they arrived on time to pick me up and I got inside my house ok. this company stood me up the day of my procedure. 45 minutes before my pick up time i got a phone call to let me know i was not going to be pick up in the east bay for a procedure at kaiser san francisco. the customer service representative called to let me know the schedule driver had a medical emergency when the schedule driver had already called me 40 minutes earlier.the customer service representative said she was going to send me a lyft driver at the schedule time 10:30 am. she said she was not going to charge me. at 10:30 am , there was no lyft driver or any information. i called silver ride .the same representative said she had scheduled a lyft at 10:30 am and was going to show up at 10:50 am. i asked information about the driver and car description . she asked me to call lyft and ask for the info. i told her you are going to screw up my procedure. she said you are getting a free ride. i said i am getting a free ride without a procedure. at 10:50 am, there was no lyft driver. i end up asking a friend for a ride and almost did not make it for the procedure. read more

Wow, the driver actually pulled out and used a smartphone as soon as i got in the car from my ride. He then promptly made an illegal uturn in the middle of a busy street cellphone in hand ... He argued for a second until I told him how much money i was paying for the ride home to be driven safely from a colonoscopy, because i had no other choice to use this service. Otherwise i would have gladly used a Lyft ride. He didn't get out of the car on either side of the ride, pulled away way before i made into my apartment as well... whats the point of paying for this service ??? He didn't speak to me at all until about 5min to my destination (mostly assisiting directions to alameda). Way to pricey for the services offered. The second star is actually for being on time and getting me there safely, so at least that was accomplished. read more

The driver was very nice to me,pushing my wheelchair from the recovery area to the van as if I were a relative! Another 5 star review for SilverRide. I used SilverRide to pick me up from eye surgery and take me to my hotel in San Francisco. I called the service the week before to get some basic information beyond what was on their website. I was reassured by the person I talked to that they would be able to meet my needs. When Katie, the driver, came to pick me up, she was as nice as could be. Also, I was impressed that they left me a message the day before to let me know that they might be a few minutes late. They also let the surgery center know that they would be late. It was only about a 10 minute delay, but what courteous service! To be very clear, SilverRide is not a WAV transport service (they do not provide wheelchair accessible vans for disabled citizens that require assistance). I just received a callback clarifying that their service is limited to minimal assistance for seniors that may require doors being held, help down/up stairs, etc. They do not provide support for transfers, etc. We did not use their service as their website and the initial woman I spoke to assured me they did provide the services we need for my mom (wheelchair accessible van); three stars for the quick call back, but they should really update their service offering to be more clear (and disseminate those offerings to phone staff). read more

Sure, their rates are higher than local taxicabs....BUT SO IS THEIR LEVEL OF SERVICE !! When I needed transportation from Richmond to San Francisco for an endoscopy, two different S.F. doctor's offices suggested that I call Silver Ride. The Silver Ride people that I talked to in making the appointment were very pleasant and helpful, explained the price in advance, and even sent an email confirmation. When I had to reschedule a couple of days before the appointment, there was no problem. On 8/26/16, I used Silver Ride for the first time. My driver, Anna, arrived on time at 5 a.m. She was extremely pleasant to chat with on the ride to S.F., and waited with me when we arrived 20 minutes before the destination offices opened. Anna picked me up afterwards, on time, and drove me back home. She is a skilled driver. Everything about my experience with Silver Ride was excellent, and I'll definitely choose Silver Ride again the next time I need a ride to S.F. for a medical procedure. read more

Reserved a ride home after surgery for 1pm. Finished early so hospital called them to pick up at 12pm. They said OK. Waited until 1pm and they still didn't show up then. Took an Uber back home. 40 minutes later they tell me they did show up at 1pm (false claim that can be disproved by hospital staff as well as my smartphone location history), and that they will still charge me full amount. So I'm charging back and filing a claim in court now. read more

While riding as a passenger in one of their vehicles, I was injured when the driver had an accident that she could have and should have avoided. Even though SilverRide advertises a comfortable and safe ride, they definitely did not give me one. And literally to add insult to injury, they did not respond to my phone calls for three months after the accident and did not refund my fare nor give me the name of their insurance company until then. I most assuredly do not recommend them to anyone. read more

I was very anxious about finding a car service for my friend D., who's recovering from a triple bypass and loves opera, so transporting her in the midst of commuter traffic (from Oakland to SF restaurant, then to the back entrance of the SF Opera House, and then after the curtain fell, actually finding us in the midst of the crowds, and taking her home) -- and this, D.'s first venture out after surgery! -- was a big deal. Happily SilverRide took all the worry out of it for both of us, not only managing the traffic easily and chatting comfortably with D., but making the ride a lot of fun and pretty classy to boot in the black carriage-like vehicle SilveRide uses. Caroline who books reservations seems to work day and night to make sure all goes smoothly, so we're definitely using this service again and again. read more

I had a terrible experience with Silverride. What an expensive joke on me. She was an idiot, her gps didn't work but luckily I knew where to go. She left me at the doctors and although I asked her to wait as I knew it wouldn't take long she left-to get a coffee she said-and was very late returning. By then the feeling had returned to my eye which had been treated and by the time I got home I was very uncomfortable. A total waste of money. The next time [last week] I took a cab which was 1/3 the cost at most and much nicer more competent people. I would never ever use this service again. read more
