Professionalism: Top notch communication from the menu consultation to our menu tasting event to the final details and day of service. Julie was kind, patient, resourceful, and truly knows her craft of catering. She had menu recommendations ready and worked well within our budget for catering a 100 person wedding. Her total staff for our wedding was 10 and each was friendly and eager to help in anyway, while also providing attentive service. When the venue set and poured a champagne glass for my new husband who doesn't drink alcohol- the catering staff corrected the table setting immediately. Food: Started with appetizers and a full-service ice cream bar during cocktail hour. The food was delicious and displayed beautifully. Julie also has some amazing ice cream selections. We followed appetizers with a plated dinner service with three options (Grilled Filet Steak, Champagne Chicken, and an "all free" Stuffed Pepper option for our dietary restricted guests. Steak was prepared perfectly medium rare and the chicken was well seasoned and perfectly paired with our sides. We ended the night with late-night pizza (We're Badgers after all) and it absolutely made our guests' night..or perhaps morning a little easier ;) Bonus Points: One of my very best friends lives and works in Charlotte, NC and has worked and managed fine dining restaurants his whole career. Garrison shared that our wedding food and service was the best he's ever had. Our group is a tough crowd sometimes and Julie Kay's food & service "Wow'd" our closest family and friends. I stayed at the Homestead cottage over Memorial Day weekend. It was my first time there, but my…read morefamily has been going there twice a year for fourteen years. It is a rather quiet locale, with only the occasional loud boaters and barky dogs at whom to make disapproving faces. The cottage we were in had a rather sloped backyard leading to the lake. It wasn't a difficult climb for me, but I could imagine anyone with mobility issues having a more trying time of it, especially considering there are no stairs. The TVs were plentiful (living room, bar area, bedrooms, even a bathroom), but they don't seem to all get the same channels. They did have a good enough variety of them, though. We even had a Bose radio (the one from the commercials) that put out some decent sound. Be sure to bring your own bedding (they charge extra if you use theirs... don't ask me why) and paper goods. They had a decent supply of plates, serving dishes, bowls, silverware, steak knives, and (most importantly) a corkscrew. The lake itself is oddly shaped, but that makes for more interesting boating excursions. Fishing off of the dock right behind the house yielded some bluegill, a perch, a couple of bass, and a few northern. Fishing from a boat resulted in one muskie. The water near the shore isn't too weedy, but it's also not very deep (about 3 feet at the end of the pier). I have AT&T, and I was able to get 4-5 bars of phone reception and a fine GPS signal, but practically no data signal. The iPhone said it had access to "E" (Edge) data, but about 80% of the time whatever I was trying to do would time out, and that was from the "good" spot near the dining table. There is wifi available at the main area, from what I understand, and also at many nearby shops/coffee places/bars. The ones that do typically advertise with signs. The closest grocery store is pretty high priced, especially for weekender gear, so try not to forget anything important. Cathy's ice cream is a nice place to go on a warmer day, since it's nearby and has covered outdoor seating. The coffee shop next door to it also has wifi, if you buy something from them first.

Close to the lake, great boat docks - perfect for fishing for the kids. The swimming area has a slow slope for our little ones to enjoy the water too. The older kids loved the swimming to the raft. Also, there is a great playground and soccer/grass space we definitely took advantage of. The water was great, we brought a small fishing boat and kayaks, all were well used during the week. Great experience over all, can't wait to book again for next year!
