We had a delicious ramen lunch at Silverlake on a Saturday afternoon. We had 3 classics and one Blaze (medium) which was the perfect spice level for me. We also tried a pork bun, spicy tuna roll, and California roll. The sushi tasted very fresh, the pork buns were some of the best we ever had. We also really enjoyed the ramen. We had just returned from Japan and found the flavors very authentic. Service was excellent and no wait for a table around 1:30pm. There is indoor and outdoor seating but we sat indoors and really enjoyed our experience. We stumbled across it by accident as it's located in a corner of the food court to the left as you walk in and we were so happy with our choice given all the many food options at UTC. Food (5/5 stars): I had tried Silver Lake Ramen at their original location in LA and am glad they expanded to San Diego! Their Garlic Truffle Ramen is one of their unique, signature dishes. I loved the rich, umami broth and their chili paste elevated it. They also served a thick slice of chashu that was well-marinated and had a generous amount of fat. Their ramen egg never disappoints and the noodles had a nice thickness to them. They nailed each component of this ramen and I highly recommend it! I'll try their Blaze Tonkotsu next time though. I came to Silver Lake Ramen because Ramen Nagi was closed, and I'd heard good things from others. We opted for the combo, which includes an appetizer and ramen for $20--a great deal! For appetizers, we tried the gyozas and chicken karaage. Both were delicious, and I particularly loved how the karaage was perfectly crispy. For the ramen, we went with the Medium Blaze with pork. The pork was crispy and flavorful, which I really enjoyed. That said, we didn't quite love the ramen overall. While it wasn't bad, it didn't quite live up to the hype for us. It wasn't as flavorful as some of the other ramen spots we frequent, and I didn't taste any spice in the broth despite it being advertised as spicy. The noodles were decent but nothing to write home about. I'd recommend Silver Lake Ramen to anyone just getting into ramen or looking for a more approachable option, but for us, it's not a place we feel the need to revisit. This was my first time here. The place is very clean and I like the asthetic. For apps, we ordered the gyoza abs that was very fresh and tasty. My boss and I ordered the regular size pork bowl with jalapeño. It was so good and the jalapeño had the right amount of heat. My boss also ordered a coke but he never received it. My coworker ordered the Blaze ramen mills and she finished the whole thing. We were stuffed by the end of our meal! I would come back but the game name isn't something I would remember. Came here with some friends/colleagues for lunch, we have never been, and this looked like a good selection from the food court area. In walking in, the restaurant was clean, getting a seat was rather quick as was the ordering process. We each ordered a combo meal. The tonkatsu ramen was decent, the broth was not as thick and rich as I prefer, but still have a good taste to it, the chasu pork was cooked well as were the eggs. OMG... the pork belly was tender moist mouth watering from entry down to the tummy LOL. It was just deliciously delicious! Gyozas were crispy on the outside and flavorful on the inside. Yummy! My daughters got the combo, too, ramen, but with different appetizers such as chicken karaage and pork bun. This was my brother and his family's first time at Silverlake Ramen. They loved it, too. While in a location one might not expect for excellent food and with a simple but nice interior, Silverlake does its best by putting a twist on things. I got the edamame (with truffle salt) and the Shoyu on Fire. The former was... well, edamame, but the truffle salt was a nice addition. As for the noodles? The cilantro line aspect really turned it into a fantastic experience - something that I truly enjoyed. Great flavor, great spice, and a great dish overall. My only real complaint was that the ramen came out too quickly, so there wasn't enough time to eat the edamame. As a result, I had to put it off since I didn't want the noodles to get soggy. Overall, everything was quite good, including the service, and I'd be willing to return and try some of the other more interesting items off the menu in the future. read more

Server was very nice and friendly. We ordered our ramen. My mom the shoyu on fire. They give you the option to order mild, medium, or hot. My mom chose mild. I ordered the garlic truffle with pork. My mom really loved her ramen. Broth was very tasty and veggies tasted fresh. My garlic truffle was the bomb!! It had lots of garlic, which I love. Truffle was tasty but not overwhelming. Parking is at the mall and it's free for the first 2 hours. The place is pretty small. I got the combo of Classic Pork Tonkotsu Ramen with Creamy Broccolini as an appetizer. The ramen was really good with the broth being very flavorful. It does come with half an egg. I got the pork as protein, but the downside is it's just one chunk of pork. They didn't cut it into pieces, so it's just biting one chunk. The Creamy Broccolini is really good, and the sauce they have is very tasty on the broccolini. If you're on the hunt for some fatty, rich tonkatsu broth, look no further. Located at the UTC Food Court, Silverlake offers multiple types of ramen, along with rice bowls. They're vegetarian-friendly too, with an entire section dedicated to meat alternatives! Crispy Chicken Karaage (Regular): Comes with 8 juicy pieces, slightly bigger than bite-sized. Highly recommend, especially if you're dining in. That way you'll enjoy it at peak crispiness. It's served with a spicy aioli sauce, which only has a small kick. Gyoza (Combo): Comes with 4 pieces. Not all of the ramen are eligible to make a combo. And combos are only available for dining in customers. These were deep-fried crispy goodness and super juicy on the inside. It tastes a lot better with the spicy aioli. Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna: Comes with two pieces. Each piece is way too big to eat in one bite. The little block of rice on the bottom was crispy and warm and it balanced really nicely with the soft, cold spicy tuna and avocado. It's a little pricey for what it is but definitely try it at least once. Garlic Truffle Ramen: The truffle flavor wasn't as strong as I'd like it to be but the broth overall still had the thick, richness to it. You can choose pork, chicken or tofu for the protein...I went with the pork belly and got an extra one to save for leftovers. I don't really like their pork belly because of how thick it is. The fatty part is nice but there were a couple of pieces of meat that were tough and stringy, something that I don't find with thinner slices. For a newly opened restaurant, I was a little shocked by how fast the service was and how attentive the servers were. They checked in multiple times and were super apologetic with running out of things. I have consumed ramen from Tokyo to NYC, San Francisco to Los Angeles to San Diego. San Diegans, I formally announce Silverlake Ramen in UTC to be my new FAVORITE ramen shop. Out of all the ramen shops in San Diego that I have tried since mid-2022 until now, Silverlake ramen is (1) the most delicious, (2) affordable, (3) and best located. Food 5/5: - Classic tonkatsu ramen with pork: The broth is rich with the bold flavor of toasted garlic. Out of all the tonkatsu ramen I have tasted, the flavor profile with this one was the most unique and complex. There is a thick piece of tender & juicy pork belly that could have been sliced into 5 thin slices, so the quantity of meat is more than that offered by other ramen shops. Although the chashu could have been saltier, the quality of meat was much better than that of more famous competitors. The soft-boiled egg was a *touch* overcooked with the yolk edge not particularly runny, and surprisingly there was some spinach in the ramen. The dish came together perfectly though, and I will be ordering it every time I return. - Chicken karaage: We ordered this as part of the $19 combo so it came with 4 pieces. The chicken thigh meat was tender, and the batter was very light & crisp, with almost a tempura-like texture. It is by far the best karaage we have eaten at a ramen shop in San Diego. It came with a spicy mayo sauce that was a nice contrast in flavor profile Price 5/5: When I eat somewhere, I look for the best VALUE. If something is cheap but tastes bad, or is delicious but costs an arm/leg, then that is not something that is good value. The combo (tonkatsu ramen + karaage) here is the best value I have experienced at any ramen shop. BEST balance of deliciousness and price (check out my menu photo). This next part may be subjective, but I loved the ramen enough that I would pay more for it. Location 5/5: It is so fun to come to UTC and stroll around, compared to showing up at a Convoy shopping center where all the businesses surrounding the ramen shop are accountant or seamstress offices. 2 hour free parking. Always a really solid experience when we come here! Located in the UTC mall next to the food court entrance. Pretty sizeable interior but seating is pretty close together to others so don't expect to have tons of privacy, almost like a cafeteria style seating. Food is great! Appetizers are really crunchy and we try to go for the karaage and the wontons whenever we go. The bowls and ramen are also extremely filling and with great spice to boot. I've ordered the Chicken Karaage Bowl for bowls and Garlic Truffle, Blaze, and Shoyu on Fire before. If I had to rate my favorite out of the mix, it would definitely have to be Blaze, not to spicy but not lacking in it either. The Ramen was alright in my opinion. I really like how the broth tasted but wasn't a big fan of the noodles- they were a bit harder than I would have liked.
