I've been cooking for a long time and it was either cooking or journalism that was going to be my career path. I took the latter but experimenting with food has now become my method of relaxation. I've been here numerous times. This little seafood stall in St George's Market has been here since I've been coming and has a gaggle of fresh local seafood. The range varies according to fishing periods and what's available. I've bought huge bags of fresh Irish mussels for a paltry £3. Large, moreish and juicy they cannot be beaten. Try sautéing a finely diced torpedo shallot, a clove of garlic and a dash of black pepper. Fire in a large glass of dry white wine and a glass of water, make sure its in a large pot then fire in the mussels. Put the lid on and cook for 4-5mins. Then take the mussels out, add about 100mls of double cream, stir for 30secs and add the mussels back in, toss around and serve. The range is superb. I have a white fish allergy so have to stick to fresh seafood, salmon and tuna but the fish is always of the freshest, highest quality.

This stall sells everything, most of it freshly caught on the day and the prices seem very reasonable. But fish is an aquired taste that a lot of people in North Belfast have as this place has been open for years. On top of its fresh fish, it sells a wide range of fruit and vegetables as well as freshly cooked rotisserie chicken, which is one of the few reasons I'd ever got in and bare the smell!

She laughed in a nice way at the idea of me making my own and showed me what she used to make hers (from scratch, the show off) but then took me to the wrappers. Thank goodness she did, I would have been there for weeks. The selection of dried, pickled, canned and fresh goods is astounding. The fruit and veg section puts the big supermarkets to shame in quality and price. This shopping experience was a roaring success. Lets hope my dumplings are too!

The Asia supermarket looks more like a factory than a place that sells food. The layout, as other reviewers have mentioned is vast and scatty, but if you have your wits about you, you may just come out with something weird and wonderful, and tasty too hopefully! I would recommend getting some seaweed, a big block of Tofu (really good value) or some yummy miso soup. There is a very small Mexican section, which in my opinion was pretty darn good for being in Ireland! They had tortillas, various dry chilies and hot sauces. Lots of cookies, candies, jams and jelly's and a very large tea selection. The cheese case and deli were loaded with so many choices, it was hard to choose! I usually pick up the basics here, I always have carrots, celery, onions and garlic in the fridge as from that you can do just about anything Italian (every sauce base in Italy contains the three basics, finely diced carrot, celery and onion) Friendly quick service, great range and cheap (haggle worthy) prices.

I tried the oysters by themselves, then with lemon and Tabasco, which I find more tasty as they enhance the flavors. -Beer battered cod and chips with mushy peas and tartare: The cod portion was HUGE and piping hot. The cod was properly cooked, not dried out as other fish and chips eateries. The thick steak fries were crispy on the exterior and fluffy on the interior. I did not like the mushy peas as a personal preference. -Pan fried fillet of seabass: Absolutely delicious. The seabass was flakey with a crispy skin. Clams were properly cooked. Saffron mashed potatoes supported the fish. It was a hearty and balanced meal. -Rockshore cider: This tastes like your standard apple cider. It is crisp and sweet and does not taste like alcohol. Atmosphere/Layout: It is a very narrow restaurant that can fit maybe 40 diners inside. The tables are very small too. I would recommend having a reservation due to the limited space. It was warm inside, which is nice from the brisk, windy weather. Diners seem to be all locals catching up over a meal and every table around us had wine or alcohol.

For such a central location you'd expect more. Today I felt very sorry for the raining stall holders as they stood about twiddling their thumbs.
