I'm a fan automatically because I work in the biz.
But if I weren't I think I'd admire these studios as somewhat of a landmark which I believe they are.
Structurally, they are nothing spectacular other than the GIANT Silvercup Studios sign that you can see either driving or coming across the same way via the 7 train.
And inside the studios again there is nothing fascinating about it other than VERY HIGH ceilings as expected in any tall warehouse.
What IS fascinating is the amount of TV shows and films that have shot footage at this location.
Too many to name and to be honest I'm sure any TV fan would already know this.
But currently there are 3 shows that call this location their home base.
And I would imagine more will come even if Steiner Studios in Brooklyn is the preferred location because it is bigger and they are making it even larger space wise in the near future.
Don't get me wrong, everything in this studio is still very modernized.
You don't need to pull yourself up on a dolly to get to different floors.
There is an elevator.
And clean stairs if you had too much calorie intake that afternoon.
There are a few cons about the place though.
Location wise it is convenient off the F train stop at QueensBridge.
Location wise it is slightly inconvenient off the E train stop at Court Square because you have to trek a few blocks.
However, it is still MORE convenient than more other studios I've been to named East River and Steiner.
Being that this is a warehouse first, studio second one can expect a difference in temperatures throughout different parts of the building.
For example, if you are on the 2nd floor where all the production offices are obviously it is warmer because of smaller ceiling space.
Where they actually film the ceiling space is practically a whole floor in itself so you can expect it to be nippy.
The hint is, BRING YOUR JACKET if you are touring that part of the building.
All in all, it is a great place to work if you are an extra, actor, production crew, caterer, etc.
It sure as hell is closer to my house which is always a plus in my book when I'm trying to get home before the sun comes up. read more
