His service checked all the boxes: private boat for a smaller group, the flexibility of what the fishing plan for the day, the right price, great reviews. It was a colder morning so we were stoked when we got there and found out his boat had a full enclosure for the steam out to the fishing grounds. It made for an extremely comfortable ride both in and out in any condition. Chris was knowledgeable, fun, and knew when to step in and help us out and engage and when to sit back and let our group do our thing. Most importantly though? He put us on the fish. Although none of us had fished these waters before, he coached us on proper technique and what to do before we got there. Once we arrived at the fishing spots? The rods were constantly bent, reeling in Sculpin, Rockfish & Ling Cod. We had an absolute blast out on the water with Chris. We are already planning on future trips with Jolly Mon Charters. I told my husband what I was planning he then also wanted to talk to Keith to see what everything entailed and again he was super helpful! We planned on july but postponed til September with the possibility of catching salmon. We arrived with 2 friends and were greeted by our guide Dan who also owns fraser fishing adventures and he was really great and fun to spend our day with we caught our first sturgeon and our largest of the day less than an hour of our trip it was amazing 7ft 10 in all in total we caught 7 fish from all sizes..it was an amazing fun day we will definitely come back for another trip and only use Fraser Fishing Adventures

Anyone can do the Rice Lake loop -- it's actually wheelchair accessible! There are benches scattered around the lake, as well as an outhouse. You can access it from Dempsey and Lynn Valley Road (by The End of the Line General Store), near the entrance of Lynn Headwaters Regional Park, or from the park itself. The lake itself is surrounded by trails. Nice and easy to walk around. There is also a dock that cuts across a section of the lake. Great for fishing. Apparently there are trout in here. Great place for photos too. I didn't see any rice here. Maybe it's named after some guy or a nearby sushi restaurant.

Ii is a favourite place to stop for us, and this time, although a touch early 'season-wise' for most returning salmonids, I anticipated seeing at least a few adult fish in the river, and returning to the facility. Our visit was rewarded with such sights - there were several adults in the stream 'and' attempting to make their way into holding structures within the facility available to them at that time. I knew we were a touch early to see many returning adult fish to the facility, but that said, we did get some good views of several fish within the stream, and some very up close & personal views of a few fish that had been able to get into the facility earlier, and their jumping attempts at entrance gates to a couple of holding ponds. For us, very cool to see, and it sure added some excitement to our stop into the facility this time! As usual when there, we did a complete (self-guided) walkabout of the entire grounds, catching all the sights and sounds along the way. And for the first time, we dropped into the main building - it houses most of the inside operational facilities, staff offices, and such - the foyer, is open to the public, and contains informational bulletin boards, signage, displays, and brochures of interest to visitors to the facility. Once again, our favourite stop-along-the-way to Harrison was fun and interesting, along with some exciting "fish moments".

UNACCOUNTABLE! During my visit to Fred's in Abbotsford I dealt with their salesperson Griffin…read morewhere I purchased thousands of dollars worth of sturgeon fishing supplies last year. During our conversations he suggested helping me in all aspects of this type of fishing including accompanying me on an outing with the promise to help pay $50 for a portion of the fuel cost, but failed to do so. Griffin also brought is friend, Sonny. To reciprocate my gesture I was offered an opportunity to join Griffin on an outing on one of the boats he guides. I patiently waited for over a year with repeated requests for him to deliver on his promise, it was clear he had no intention of reciprocating. I'm not one to stand by and be taken for granted. It has become apparent that Griffin lacks integrity, accountability and credibility. He even went as far as to threaten and instructed his friend Sonny to harass me sending messages with threats, further demonstrating childish and immature behavior.

I have taken many hikes around this beautiful lake and seen breathtaking views so you must go as well. The whole park is huge and I must say I could not explore in just one visit. So you got to come back to it again and again. Enjoy hikes with beautiful lake view but be careful around here as it is pretty wild and some of the trails are not for first timers.

Golden Ears Provincial Park is a very popular park and campground. Even though it's in Maple…read moreRidge, which is relatively close to Vancouver, I had never been due to lack of transit, but I finally had the opportunity to go on Thursday August 13, 2026 with four friends. Because Golden Ears is such a popular destination, free day passes are required for cars between mid-May to Labour Day on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. As we went on a Thursday we didn't require a pass, but we arrived at 11am, which is considered "late" (none of us are morning people), but we lucked out and managed to find one of the few remaining parking spots, and it was very close to the trail head. This was the first time at Golden Ears for all of us, so we took our time exploring and spent over four hours hiking and enjoying the day. We hiked along the East Canyon Trail to Viewpoint Beach, where we stopped for lunch for about half an hour and watched people on horseback frolicking in the water, and then started back down the trail and took the Crossover Trail to the Lower Falls, and then hiked along the Lower Falls Trail back to the parking lot. With the exception of the Crossover Trail, the trails we hiked were very easy, particularly the Lower Falls Trail (I wouldn't even say that this trail was a hike -- it was a walk). The Crossover Trail connects the East Canyon Trail to the Lower Falls, and while short, it was absolutely awful and I would not recommend hiking this "trail". On the map it's noted as a trail, but in my opinion, it really isn't. The Crossover Trail is very steep and the terrain is quite treacherous, particularly if you're short. Several times I just slid on my butt. The trails we hiked were by the North Beach area of Alouette Lake. There are campgrounds and several other trails, ranging from easy to advanced. Unfortunately there is no transit to this part of Golden Ears, but as of this summer, limited transit service to the South Beach of Alouette Lake began. In June, Translink began seasonal service from Haney Place in Maple Ridge to the South Beach parking lot. The #736 ran only on weekends and holidays until Labour Day every half an hour between 7am and 9pm (which is pretty damn good!). I was hoping to try this route out even though a one way transit trip would be 1.5 hours (getting to Haney Place is about an hour and includes 30 minute bus ride), but between my schedule and the limited days the bus ran, I wasn't able to make it before service ended. Also, I wasn't familiar with the hiking trails in the South Beach area, but now that I have been to Golden Ears and have studied the maps, I feel more comfortable exploring Golden Ears and hope to take transit there next summer. Even if I have friends who can drive, I want to support Translink and hope they keep this route going, and maybe expand it -- more transit to hiking trails is needed. It's one of Bellingham's lesser-known spots, but it's worth the visit. This seems to be a popular swimming area for locals, especially the young ones. There's a dock for fishing and small beach type areas for water access. Boats are not permitted, which allows for peaceful water. A portable toilet is in the parking area. No grills, picnic areas, or playgrounds available.
