I've been a loyal client for a few years, spending thousands of dollars here, including over $2,000 recently for a mole removal. Today, my groomer noticed possible signs of thrombosis and urged me to get my dog checked immediately. I called and asked if the vet could see him for even 5-10 minutes to determine if it was indeed an emergency. The receptionist said they were booked, and the vet, Dr Jen, declined when the receptionist asked her. While I understand schedules are busy, I was disappointed that a regular client in a potential emergency couldn't be squeezed in. I didn't want the Grafton Emergency vet's opinion that they I suggested I go to; I wanted their opinion, the vet I chose and trusted. I work in the hospitality industry and go out of my way all the time for clients and they are not even having medical emergencies; it is just the right thing to do. This experience made me realize compassion is not prioritized here (for the animal or myself) and I will no longer recommend or go to this clinic and have already switched vetinarians. read more

I normally get the prescription for my dog's Heartworm medication through Costco because it's just so much cheaper. This time around I decided to use my veterinarian's office to support a local business, but boy do I regret it. The online form for requesting the medication was easy to use and I even gave them three days to fill the prescription (which should have taken all of five minutes to fill) before requesting a pick up. After seven days without hearing anything, I called to find out when it would be ready. Turns out it had been ready for days, no one bothered to tell me it was ready... The person I spoke to advised they were doing curbside service and transferred me to someone else to take the payment over the phone. After completing the payment, I was told to call when close so they could put the meds in the basket on the porch as they weren't allowing anyone inside. Ok, all fine, I get it. When I was a few blocks away, I called as instructed and was told, "Oh, no we won't leave it in the basket, someone else could take it. Pull up right in front and wave." I wasn't aware that there was a rash of dog medicine thefts in the area but more annoyed that the office wasn't consistent in their messaging to me, especially after no one notified me that the 'script was ready to be picked up until I called. I did as I was told and waited several minutes for someone to bring it out to me. To add insult to injury, the price was more than double what I pay at Costco and yet received far poorer service for the privilege. read more

This is a five-star review of how Silver Spring Animal Wellness Center makes difficult and sad experiences more peaceful and comforting. I've never had cause to bring my pets here for care, but over the course of fifteen years, I've had three cats euthanized here. There is little more difficult and emotional than parting with a beloved pet, but the staff here helped us with great care, empathy, and support. The center offers a special room where you can spend time with your pet and where your animal family member is put to sleep in a very peaceful manner. Afterward, you can depart through the main lobby or through a side door and gate, depending on your preferences. Some of the most emotional hours of my life have been spent here, but when I've been at my lowest, the team at this facility has helped me with patient, kind, compassionate, professional support. read more

My dog LOVES going to the vet, I think that says a lot about this clinic. The staff and assistants are always so friendly, and the vets are wonderful. We usually see Dr. Dean or Dr. Katie, but I never have a preference and my little Sasha seems to love them both. Everyone here really cares not just about an animal's current health but also his/her well-being. I'd say prices are competitive, and they only do the necessarily testing and procedures. I like how they draw blood and do a titer test to see if the levels of vaccinations (such as distemper) are still adequate instead of pumping my beloved beagle full of unnecessary vaccinations/medications. I also appreciate the extended hours at this clinic, so the annual appointments always fit into my busy schedule. My only complaint is the price of the nail clipping; I believe the last time we had that done it was $14ish. I have since purchased a nice nail clippers and am trying to get over my fear of clipping my dog's nails at home. I definitely recommend this clinic for the outstanding care shown by the vets and their staff! read more

I have only been twice for initial check-ups for each of my two kitties that I have rescued. The nurses and Doctors both times have been friendly and handled my cat/kitten with skill and kindness. We were kept waiting for 20 minutes past our appointment time with our 14 year old dog who was trembling and panting. We were asked to move to a treatment room where we waited another 15 minutes for a doctor. She came in and asked about Allie's records which I knew had been sent to this practice. She said that she only received one set and I knew there were 3 sets; one was from her primary and one from a vet specialty clinic where Allie had been treated. She then left the room and came back saying that she had found the records. Isn't a vet supposed to read those records prior to the visit so that they are prepared for the consult? She obviously did not prepare for this visit. She asked us a few questions, the answers to which were all in Allie's records, then left again to "get her knee pads." She examined Allie and did some light massage to her back ( 1 minute) and showed me some techniques to exercise Allie's almost paralyzed right rear limb. She raised her voice at me when I asked a question to clarify how to do this exercise. That was it! She said to make another appointment for next week to see if what she did made a difference in Allie's condition. We were charged $215 for a 15 minute consult which she had not prepared for and gave no additional information about how to improve Allie's condition. I was crying by the time I left that office. I was shocked at the cost, but the tech assured me that the next consult would cost only $100 - unbelievable! I never hesitate to spend money on care for my furkids, in fact I probably take them to the vet too often - every 6 months. The charge for this consult was egregious, the vet was rude and impatient, we were kept waiting far too long with our 14 year old trembling panting sweetie, and worst of all the vet was not adequately prepared for our appointment. I will never ever go back to this practice!!!!! read more

We have been working with my extremely reactive rescue dog who has major issues getting her nails trimmed and the staff has been nothing but accommodating. While I believe the vets are competent, they are expensive and try to upsell you at every opportunity. I also found Dr. Morgan to be rude and condescending on many occasions, which was completely uncalled for. After spending nearly $3000.00 over about three months, I found I could no longer afford to continue laser treatments. Dr. Morgan subsequently blew off my last appointment, which was, of course, so rude; but it also made driving my poor frightened dog to the vet unnecessary. After having already taken my dog to SS for several appointments, they then told me to go back to the emergency vet if I had any further questions. Nice. I haven't been back. read more

This is a fantastic practice - low volume, very focused on the absolute best for your pet. I came here because my elderly golden retriever was hobbling and had clearly either torn something or perhaps had (for them, chronic) hip issues. I wanted a place that could give me a range of solutions beyond the ''surgery'' ''drugs'' or put er down sort of menu you will find at other vets. Through holistic competencies, I knew they could offer accupuncture, chiropracty, etc., that would be pallative as well as the conventional treatments. Turns out (thankfully) they found it was an injury rather than something chronic, through x-rays and other analysis, and we are currently on a course of drugs both holistic and conventional as well as laser therapy, which uses low band laser treatment to stimulate muscle repair over a series of sessions. This treatment, by the way, is cheaper than things like accupuncture but can be an effective method that other vets might not even have considered. in short, the vets here are at the top of the game in offering multiple strategies and treatments and in mastering the best approaches from both conventional and cutting -edge proven treatments. Dr. Dean Beyerinck (UC-Davis grad - best vet school in the US) was very clear about helping me see how the diagnosis works; i learned a lot from him about how to pinpoint injuries and their source, and he was very attentive to my concerns about how to heal my dog without going overboard in terms of cost and such. His colleague Dr. Lisa Kluslow is also VERY knowledgeable and smart, and she seems to be particularly knowledgeable about the latest holistic approaches and methodologies. I learned more and different things from her about the supplements we were using to improve ligament strength and repair, and just general tips and strategies for helping old dogs do well in the future. She and I both have anxiety about the ''big pharma'' sorts of drugs conventionally used - even though we are using precisely those for my dog in this instance because they are the most effective - but we are committed to getting the dog off them as soon as possible because such drugs are in the long term potentially dangerous to the (i believe) kidney functions. I have not yet met the third Vet in the practice. These are probably the best and most knowledgeable vets I've ever used, anywhere, outside my old big animals farm vet in my hometown in Oklahoma. Their practice is more expensive than some (though it seems the trend is towards expense in all vet. practices regardless) but here you most definately will get the right diagnosis, you will not be cheated or sold incorrect information, and your animal will be treated to the best standards of known medicine from a variety of philosophical schools. They are the best western medicine approach vets I've had, but they are also very cognizant of eastern and more recent approaches. Cost is a factor, of course, but my girlfriend went to a cut-rate vet with a coupon - Bayshore Vet. Clinic - whose India-trained Vet Jagmohan Singh seemed to be in shake-down mode and even told her to buy his ''science diet'' dogfood (low quality masquerading as high quality) at 50 dollars even after she told him her dog was allergic to corn (for sure) and chicken (maybe). The main ingredient to the dog food he ''prescribed'' - corn. (and of course he has been reprimanded by the board certifying vets in wisconsin, too...). So, cheaper is sometimes potentially more dangerous or expensive than quality in the first place. We have had nothing but fine services and experiences with provider. We have had two small dogs treated by them and the kindness and attention they displayed was wonderful. Prompt service, accommodating ways and reasonable prices were very welcome. They handled the cremation of one of our dogs and they were very sensitive and understanding. Dr. Dean and Dr. Katie are who I usually see and they are both very nice and informative. The only suggestion I have is to try and get all the pets on the same schedule and to try and reduce the number of exams per year. It has taken me over a year to write this review but I feel I should to potentially help other pet owners prevent my experience. In February of last year my senior dog went through a teeth cleaning at Silver Spring per their recommendation. Soon after the procedure he had difficulty breathing and we took him back to Silver Spring. They told me it was discomfort due to the pain killers and to cease them. I followed this advice but his condition worsened. We took him to Lakeshore Animal Hospital that night and the first thing they asked was whether he aspirated during the teeth cleaning. I called Silver Spring and they said he did not. Due to this feedback, we wasted valuable time performing tests to see if it was his heart, some other cause etc. All signs pointed to no so they finally took a lung sample. Before results returned our baby passed away due to the inability to breath for himself putting too much stress on his heart and body. We later found there was in fact bacteria in his lungs. I understand that all procedures carry risk but with later research found that aspirational pneumonia is one of the most common risks from going under anesthesia. Had Silver Spring simply owned up to this at the start of clearly lung based symptoms and put him on the proper antibiotics right away he may still be with us. Furthermore, they should not have recommended teeth cleaning for a dog his age. For over a year I could not even stand to do the research due to the pain of his loss but experiences with our current dog forced me to do so. I saw the vet going down the same path of excessive medication and procedure suggestions and vaccination schedules. Ultimately, while everyone here has been nice to me, I believe they put making money before the welfare of your animal. If you chose to go here, do independent research before proceeding with their advice. Had I done this and either not gotten my dog's teeth cleaned, or at the least not listened when they said he had no chance of aspirational pneumonia and put him on antibiotics anyway, he would still be with me. read more

Ms. Maya approves of everyone here quite nicely and even behaves for me for all the scary stuff. They always have what she needs and we are in and out without drama on the regular. read more

I've been taking my cats to this clinic for about 2 years. During that time I've had appointments with Dr. Katie and Dr. Peter just depending on who is available. I like both of them a lot and have found them both to be very friendly and knowledgeable. You can tell they both love animals (which you would think would be a given quality in a vet, but I've found it isn't from my visits to other clinics). I think cost is comparable to other vets in the area and I enjoy that they have some Saturday hours. They helped me through treatment for a chronically ill pet that increased his quality of life for the time he had left and were very compassionate when he passed. I think a quality vet is hard to come by, so I still continue to use this clinic even though I've moved father away and my cats aren't big fans of the 18 minute commute. read more

I'm very picky when it comes to vets, and I approve of this place. After trying three other vets first, I haven't looked back once I started bringing my dog here. They are more expensive than other places I've been, but I feel that they are honest with their advice instead of pushing unnecessary treatments. So, I'm okay with spending the money because I trust I'm doing what is best for my dog. In addition to quality vet services, they have convenient hours, we get seen quickly, and they are willing to send prescriptions to an online pharmacy to help defray the cost of meds. read more

My family cats have been taken care of here for 25(?) years. We started with our little Leela and now my current tortie and other two are there. The vets are extremely knowledgeable and have good resources for patient families. They aren't the cheapest services in town, but I think the extra 5-10% expense (average per service) is DEFINITELY worth it! They know their stuff. I've been there many times in the past 6 months since one of my cats was originally diagnosed with diabetes, then renal failure, now apparently cured of both --- DISCLAIMER: This is because I have a very lucky cat - not that SSAWC staff are magical!!! --- although we still have one more rounds of tests to go to confirm it all. I can't say enough great things about this place! They still recognize my mom and her second cat died over 4 years ago and everyone who was there when Leela was, still knows and talks about how awesome she was. We just took two of our three girls here yesterday for their first full physical in several years, and I'm thrilled to report that our girls were able to relax enough to lie down, stretch out, and roll onto their sides in complete relaxation mode. The place is a converted house, so has the comfortable sense of being a space people and animals alike can enjoy for its ambiance. Plus, its doctors are fully qualified veterinarians who've undertaken additional training in acupuncture and chiropractic. Luckily, our girls seem to be in good health (even though they qualify for the Senior discount), and when Dr. Dean introduced himself (properly, kneeling down and stretching out steady hands), they both went to him tail-wagging, and giving generous kisses. That response alone was enough to ensure our return. Plus, he had an assistant with the same gentle touch and demeanor, and he was thoroughly forthcoming in answering our various questions. And despite my misgivings about continued vaccinations for our dogs, he assured me the rabies vaccine they use is based on a killed-virus form in a thimerosol-free base, so is as health-neutral as such things can be. Because we have three dogs, we also get a multi-pet discount--though they did ask that we only bring in two at a time, to be able to properly focus on each one in turn. I have lived in 5 cities as a pet owner, and had at least 5 different vets in 8 years, and SSAWC is, by far the best medical care you can give your animals. My experience is specific to a canine, but the quality of the care I received in many ways surpasses "human grade". It is a small practice which I believe is part of why they are able to offer better services. The vets are not biased towards what many would call "alternative" or "holistic" treatments. But they are knowledgeable in these areas and thus offer wider medical options to you. It is expensive, but the peace of mind is worth it. read more

I see a lot of good reviews, and we always thought it is a good clinic. But on February 22nd we lost a little baby dog, my parents are living in Wisconsin and I'm not there. But they took a dog to the vet, they found out that she had a sarcoma on her leg. They did a surgery on February 15th, they said the doctor so professional everything will be ok, and we thought she will be fine. But she started getting worse, after 3 days she started bleeding from her stomach, we took her back to the clinic. They said she had an infection and the doctor who did the surgery was Dr. Monique Vanden Heuvel and she sworn that everything was sterile. But when she started clean the dog, she didn't use any gloves and she didn't use sterile gauze, just old towels till we told her. That it's unprofessional to use unsterile towels on the open wounds. Poor dog had open wounds all over her stomach and her skin started pilling off. But the same doctor was saying just keep giving her antibiotics, painkillers, and bring her to the clinic everyday, so they would flash the fluid out. But we took the dog to the hospital, and doctor over there said she won't recover, those wounds were so severe. We lost her that day in the hospital, and I'm just sharing ours story. I'm not blaming the other doctor, he was nice and tried to help us. I'm just saying that woman didn't care, she saw that dog was dying and just kept telling to bring her back to the clinic, so they would take care of her. I don't want something like that happened to other animals and their owners. read more

Wonderful clinic - I cannot recommend it enough. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. Our puppy had severe stomach issues and we went to three vets before visiting this clinic. I googled holistic vets out of desperation and got into this one the same day I called to make an appointment. Dr. Lisa spent almost an hour going over our puppy's history and getting to know him. She reviewed his charts so carefully and noticed that the breeder had not given him the correct dewormer as a newborn puppy. This was clearly on his charts but no other vet had noticed or looked at it closely enough. We went through another deworming and he improved 100 percent following the treatment. They also provided probiotics for him to help restore good enzymes in his tummy, as he had been given so many antibiotics by other vets which had treated the symptoms but never the real issue. I love how they combine traditional treatments with holistic approaches. Also, the prices are competitive. It does not seem more expensive than the other clinics we visited - in fact, our puppy's neutering was less here and I believe he received better care than he would have elsewhere. I was so impressed with Dr. Lisa and her care and attentiveness. She personally called me to follow up on our puppy's stomach issues, and spent so much time with us during our appointment. What a difference compared to the other clinics we visited. We are so happy we found Silver Spring Animal Wellness! read more

Dr. Dean was great on our first visit. Luckily our Aussie mix is doing well despite having her hips taken out as a pup. Yes, the nail trim is twice what I paid in expensive ski country (imagine that in Milwaukee) but we'll go back. Today they gave me trainer referrals for some aggressive dogs in the neighborhood. Our girl is nearly nine and may need alternative therapies as she ages, so we like and respect this practice, its doctors and staff. read more

I've been taking my pets to spirit of 76th vet for about 5 years. Then one day I found a stray kitten who was malnourished and very sick and it was after hours for spirit. I went online and saw the super convenient hours that st paul vet offers and took the kitten there right away. I cannot say enough about this place... its great! No appt needed and open til 6 on saturdays! Great prices great staff! They helped me in getting the kitten healthy and then a while later my dog broke his leg so of course it was on a saturday morning when it happened. I took him to st paul and they were awesome! Took an xray gave him a splint and went over my other options... this is my go to now. I am very satisfied with st paul and highly reccommend them! read more
