12/5/21 The Silver Parrot has been around for 44 great years. This is as old as I have been alive depending on what month they opened up shop. 44 years which happens to be my second favorite number. I have walked by this store and maybe even been inside it before. Whatever the case is, my wife and I decided to see what wonderful toys we could find here. I found out that the last day of operation could be December 24th depending on supplies left. The jewelry I saw looked promising if I were a woman. I can say it won't be in this lifetime. The purple butterfly necklace caught my eye, while my wife liked the butterfly earrings. It wasn't till I had done a full inspection of the store that I saw a ring that said "buy me please." The ring I saw turn out to be two gecko lizards running in opposite directions in the center of the ring. The silver ring had small gaps in the ring where the cut out of the gecko lizards are. My smooth reddish brown skin can be seen shining through it...if you are close enough to me that is. The ring's price dropped from $28 dollars to $19.60. The ring is a size 8 and it fit perfectly either pinky finger. I feel the need to wear it again, but tomorrow will suffice. I found the staff members to be friendly enough. The place was pretty busy as we entered the store and somewhat busy when we left. I might not get another chance to see this store again, so I am glad I got a chance to see it while merchandise is still in the store. If you get an opportunity to aquire merchandise here, know that all sales on merchandise are final. There are no refunds or exchanges. So keep it in mind. read more

I love turquoise and silver jewelry, predominantly Native American jewelry. They have a nice selection even some antique pieces. The customer is above and beyond. We went shopping there 2 times this week and were helped by different associates each time, all were fantastic. I even tried on a piece I had no intention of buying but she urged me to try it on just to see how it looked. She knew I wasn't going to buy it but was fun to try on a unique and expensive piece of Native American history. The prices are fair for the location. My mom wanted a sterling charm and the associates looked all over for it and found it. Great service! I see that their rating on here is 3 stars and I'm not sure why. The Silver Parrot is a great little shop in Old Town, and I love checking out the selection of silver jewelry from around the world. This is the perfect place to pick up a gift for that special someone. I must confess that although the prices are reasonable by Old town standards, I am a little spoiled as I have purchased silver jewelry in Bali and Asia. So it is a bit hard to spend $200 on a necklace when you've seen the same thing in Asia for $ 20.. But, hey it is much cheaper than a ticket to Bali, so this place is still a bargain any day of the week I also love the fact that they will let you know just where your new favorite piece is from. After visiting "America" (right next door) we wandered into this shop with the intention of buying a pair of earrings for my mom's birthday. The well-stocked shop carries a wide variety of gemstones set in, you guessed it, mostly savory silver. Since my mom thinks yellow gold is "gaudy" I always try to find her unique silver jewelry. There were four associates in the shop that day, but "Betty" (who reminds me of my mom) was a real spitfire. I mean, she's practically my mom's Doppelganger. Her 'tell it like it is' demeanor was refreshing and entertaining. After looking at a wide variety of necklaces and earrings, we honed in on a pair of silver earrings with turquoise accents. Since my mom and Betty have the same hair color and style, she gladly modeled the earrings for us. SOLD. As expected (for the area) the prices at this shop were somewhat inflated, but since time is money and because Betty made us feel so comfortable, we splurged a bit. I really enjoyed chatting with Betty because in a sea of Old Town Alexandria snobs, she is as real as it gets. What a delightful human being. Thanks Betty! read more

Silver Parrot has -- wait for it -- an entire inventory of silver jewelry. I'm not a yellow gold girl, so this is fine by me. If you are a yellow gold girl, keep movin'. This isn't the place for you. We used to come here back in high school because of the "affordably priced" jewelry displays. Which were basically things only high schoolers would find cool anyway, like little frog earrings or charms shaped like flip flops. All that's still alive and well in Silver Parrot. But now I can focus a bit more on the adult jewlery, which is more expensive but a whole lot classier. It ranges the gamut here from elaborate to simple. I tend to gravitate towards the simpler pieces, like a solitary pearl set in a plain silver band ring or Roman glass pendants. But if you like showy, they've got your filigreed rings and large stoned, multi-stranded chokers right here. You'll probably need to browse a while to find something that fits right in with your style, but that's half the fun anyway. It's a fun little shop, long and narrow, almost hidden-like on King Street. A rabbit warren of baubles. They could be a bit more attentive in terms of service, but sometimes it's nice just to be left alone. read more

I love this small silver jewelry shop in the heart of OT. Their selection of silver is amazing and the prices are extremely reasonable. I have a pretty large collection of silver jewelry and a good percentage was purchased here. They also carry a large inventory of varying stones/jems in their jewelry (I'm especially fond of the druzy stones and Roman glass). If you visit their website, you can read up on all sorts of information about the differing stones also. Beyond just being a shop to purchase quality silver, I would also recommend them as a place to have your rings sized and jewelry repaired. They have always charged me very fair prices. read more

I'd been looking for a ring to give my friend who is leaving for the Peace Corps in a month. I wanted a gift that was small and easy to carry, but also would be a special memory since I may not see her for almost three years. After trudging throughout DC and NoVa, I finally landed at Silver Parrot on a whim. Thank goodness! I was very impressed with their selection and the variety of stones they had. They probably had over 200 rings with various stones of all sizes and colors. They also looked a little bit more special than the rings you can buy for under $10 at various outdoor markets and festivals. I found a beautiful turquoise ring for a reasonable price. The sales staff were not the most helpful, but the selection made up for it. I will definitely be back if I am again looking for a special gift for a friend. read more

My husband-to-be and I were in the area and swung in to look for wedding bands. Neither of us are into yellow gold so this was the perfect place for us to check. As others have mentioned, there are things in every price range here, from inexpensive rings, charms and earrings to pricey rings with precious stones. We found the simple silver bands we were looking for as well as a little extra something for me - a band of sapphires set in white gold. Staff was very helpful without being pushy. (I *hate* the hard sell approach so common in jewelry stores.) My engagement ring was dirty and just a bit out of round; they cleaned and fixed it for me for free. Definitely a nice, relaxed vibe to the whole place, which made shopping for our bands the happy occasion it should be. Plus they allowed to very well behaved dogs to come into the store too, which always makes me happy. Will be back. read more

While walking around King Street one evening, my friend who was visiting decided that he would like to get his sweetheart back home a gift from his trip. His romance is new and still in the early stages (just about a year), so he agonized over what to get her and felt clueless. I immediately scratched corny t-shirts, key chains and playing cards from his suggestions. After much thinking, he decided to get her a piece of jewelry. Alas, this made him even more nervous because this would be the first piece he would ever give her and he wanted it to be right. We settled on the idea of a charm bracelet, so he could add mementos and special things for their future. We came into the Silver Parrot based on the staff recommendation at "Lou Lou" across the street. The sales team was very nice and polite. They did a good job showing us all the bracelet chains available. My friend was a little confused on the weight of jewelry, but he selected a beautiful silver chain. After much debating and spinning of the charms display, he selected two that were meaningful to both him and he thought to her. They kindly attached the charms and upon request put it in a beautiful gift box and wrapped it. They also included a silver cleaner, which I thought was nice. My friend left very happy with his purchase. I haven't heard back from him yet, but I hope it was a success! read more

Visited this adorable store Sunday 12/18/2016 with some close friends (our first visit) while looking for a truly unique gift. While walking around the store, my friend was drawn to a pendant set behind the counter. An elderly sales lady offered to assist in looking at some items as many price tags on items are turned from view. My friend pointed out one set inclusive of necklace and ear rings. When inquiring of the set, then continuing to move on to some other items, the associate made the comment "yeah, I thought it was out of your price range...". (The necklace set was under $600 but I can't recall the exact amount.) As if this comment wasn't enough, she made an additional comment regarding peoples desire to own an expensive vehicle (Lamborghini)... My friends and I were under the impression she was implying we were wishing for something we could not afford. Though we laughed it off then exited the establishment, as time goes on, these comments have really began to bother me. Though the comments were not directed to me, I can't help but wonder how many quality customers have been met with such statements. My biggest concern is that these friends may have experienced this due to their being an interracial couple -albeit mid 30's in age. Never have I experienced such disrespectful comment coming from a sales associate. Though I would hope this is not the practice of the entire staff of the shop, a team is only as strong as its weakest last link. Though the store was super cute and I saw several items of interest, I don't see returning purely due to how uncomfortable this representative made my friends and I feel. read more

I walked by this shop while walking with my mom and dog. We were approached by a women coming out and seemed nice so I decided to go in and the jewelry is beautiful, but over priced. I thought it was a little rude the fact that one greeted me or even acknowledged I was there. Also, I asked about sizing and neither of the women knew which ones had bigger sizes. Later on after switching with my mom so she could go in. the same women that had approached us in the beginning(an employee) was gossiping right in front of my mom about us and my dog. Gossiping is a no no in any work place, little miss thing should have kept her mouth shut. She was unprofessional and clearly had nothing better to do. read more

I've bought multiple pieces from this place over the years and I've always been pleased with the craftsmanship. Admittedly, their stuff is much more expensive than costume jewelry, but I don't think they're unreasonable. Huge selection of jewelry! All different metals and stones. I got three pairs of studs/ posts. One crescent moon pair, one amethyst pair (my birthstone), and one star of David pair. They're all gorgeous. My only complaint is the store is overwhelming and i felt as though i was being rushed. +1 star because they give you a free chapstick and jewelry cleaner lol. read more

Worst jewelry store I've been to since moving here in 2006. Very poor customer service. They would not honor a military discount for a purchase made the week prior although I had the receipt and was prepared to purchase another item. In addition, the associate working with me directly said they'd honor the discount, however when she asked her boss sitting in the back room, she returned and said they wouldn't honor it. read more

I've gotten some really unique items--including necklaces, rings, and earrings, bracelets. It's not necessarily cheap but I think most things are hand-crafted or made by artists. After a friend received a birthday gift certificate to the place, I accompanied her to pick something out. I am very judgemental about jewelry, so my opinion of it when I first walked in is boring. The style was definitely not mine with large stones in silver, a bit older and a lot of it seems like, not so trendy or classy. She couldn't decide on anything, she didn't really like anything so we left and I think she re-gifted it (and I don't condone re-gifting.) After reading the reviews, I now understand! All I can say is BUYER BEWARE!!! My wife and I happened upon this place on a recent trip to Alexandria. My wife found several pieces that she really fell in love with and spent around $500, keep in mind this was silver jewelry. One of their employees made a $150 mistake, and I truly believed it was a mistake. However, when I tried to rectify the problem later, the employees got very defensive. When I inquired about the owner, I was told that the owner was hardly ever around and probably would not return my call. When I asked for the owners name, I was told that they were informed not to give out that information, probably another clue. A simple google search that a 4 year old could have done produced a newspaper article with a pic of the owner Patric Dunn. When I then sent an email inquiry to Patric, he contacted me and advised me that his employee said they did not make a mistake, and he offered no alternative solution or even an apology. Now I question whether it was actually a mistake. I did not know they had gotten me until a week later when checking my credit card statements. I recommend paying cash, and be sure you are good before walking out their door if you decide to shop here. Would not recommend and will not go back! Obviously the money was not a issue to me, as we spent $500 on silver, but I hate being cheated. Even if it was an nickel, it is simply the principle. read more

Came here recently to purchase wedding ring substitutes for the current rings we have. My husband broke his ring and didn't want to spend a lot on something he might lose or damage again. I work in the veterinary field and my wedding ring can't survive the constant chewing my patients impose on my ring which is set high so I wanted something simple and wouldn't break my heart if I damaged it. Enter the Silver Parrot which is a shop I've always admired for its unique jewelry and its friendly staff.One of the staff members was very patient with us and listened to exactly what I wanted. I'm a huge fan of garnet and I told her I was in search for an everyday ring that was simple yet could pass for a wedding ring, she was honest and let me take my time. My husband was convinced he wouldn't find a ring here but he was wrong, as minutes later he set his eyes on a stainless steel band that was thin enough to meet his demands (his previous ring was too "bulky and heavy" for him). What was even better both rings fell below our budget. We wanted to spend no more than $80 for each ring. Funny as my ring was $50 and his was $25, we paid less than half of what our budget was for both. Very glad we found rings suitable for our taste, lifestyle, and budget. read more

Great little shop with beautiful pieces. However, don't trust the management. Used VISA gift cards to pay for my purchase. Was told one of them ($150) wasn't activated, and this card was given back to me and I paid that amount in cash. The cards that were used were thrown away. Later, checked the single card that was returned to me, and it had been used for the purchase. The unused card (value $150) was thrown away in the store, an accident by the very nice sales girl who assisted me. Management refused to admit the mistake and make it right. Would have gone back for future purchases if this hadn't happened. CANNOT recommend this business after this fiasco. read more

This is my favorite jewelry store in Alexandria. Gorgeous, unique items, and historically they have a very helpful and friendly staff. The last time I was there, however, one of the sales ladies who I've never seen before (a squat African American woman) was extremely rude, giving short responses to our questions about the merchandise and basically acted annoyed the entire time as if we, the customers, weren't worth her time. Maybe she was having a bad day, It was such an unpleasant experience that I will think twice about shopping there again. I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 4 until the staff improves. read more

My husband has bought me a number of things from silver parrot over the past couple of years. This September he bought me some jewelry for our anniversary, and the next day i went to return the item. It was literally the next day, jewelry still with tags on and in box, but they would only give us a store credit, which was different from what they had told my husband the day before. Additionally, they charged him $14 return adjustment, just for exchanging the item. They have nice jewelry, but very poor customer service and business sense. We will never shop there again. read more

My mother has bought me probably half a dozen pieces from Silver Parrot over the years and I had been pleased with all the pieces. Up until around last year when she bought me a $300 bracelet one month for my birthday and then another $300 piece for Christmas. One of the pieces was stolen while I was staying at a hotel in Philadelphia and soon after that, the other bracelet fell off my wrist in Florida. When I called the Silver Parrot to see if they could cut me a deal on one of the pieces (the one that had fallen off-due to a toggle that was too large) that I wanted to replace they would not even hear about it. I was so disappointed in their customer service over my request. Something, anything could have been offered to me, but "0" on the price of a new bracelet to replace the one that had fallen off. It was such a turn off, I asked my mother to never get me anything from there again. read more

I've been in the Silver Parrot a number of times over the years because I like the kind of jewelry they carry (funky sterling silver and semi-precious gemstones), but usually do not buy as most of their items can be found online for much, much less if you have a look. Anyway, yesterday I walked into the store in search of some nice baubles for my female family members. A few feet into the store, I noticed that one of the sales clerks (a very heavyset, 30s-40s blonde woman) was laughing cattily about something that I was wearing (my hat, maybe?) and mocking it to a fellow sales clerk in a quite obvious way. They noticed that I noticed (and that I understood what was going on) and were embarrassed (and quieted), but said nothing directly to me. Needless to say, I frowned at them and marched out of the store where my friends and pooch were waiting. The two continued to converse a bit worriedly as they watched us decide where to head next. I doubt I will ever shop there again, and hope they are able to find some salespeople with better manners, or at least with more discretion - how embarrassing for Silver Parrot to lose customers to insulting salesclerks. read more
