I have had three golden retrievers over 39 years. That is how long I had been going to Silver Maple. Although I rarely had the same vet twice my three boys generally seemed to receive good care. (Note: The veterinary doctor turnover here is regular.) Things changed recently. The owner of the business was the attending vet when my pup needed care. My current golden is the gentlest friendliest dog on the planet. Due to virus circumstances, I had to drop him off rather than take him in. Three different vets prescribed hundreds of dollars in meds over the better part of a month. A special dog food was also prescribed. The limitations of the virus were significant but I paid what they asked. The canned food prescribed gave him diarrhea on top of the symptoms for which I took him in. I was concerned that we kept throwing expensive drugs and food at the problem with no success. When I called for information, the vet was often not in. He would respond via his cell. His caller i.d. was disabled so when my cell rang with an incoming call from "unknown" the first time, I didn't answer. When we finally talked, he had no notes and relied on me to tell him what we had done so far. As I attempted to fill him in, he would cut me off, rarely letting me finish a sentence. I took my pup in for a battery of tests. They kept him for an afternoon. When he got home he had a hairless patch just under his left eye that he didn't have before he went in. I was concerned. I called about it. They had just closed so I left a message with the answering service. Another vet returned my call. I was told no one knew anything about it. They said he must have rubbed the hair off on the cage in which he was confined. I voiced my concern. Dr. Sam eventually felt an endoscopy was required. They wanted to keep him for a day again. Due to the virus, the office was communicating in various ways. I emailed to ask they please take good care of him. Dr. Sam called to tell me he thought I was being "irritable" with his staff. HE was irritable and had an angry tone. I was never once voiced my concern in an unprofessional way. I told him I was shocked by this. He finally admitted that I had always been respectful and professional dealing with him. The day of the procedure, I emailed again to request they keep an eye on my little buddy. Dr. Sam called me and once again, in a very agitated voice told me "come get your dog." He was not going to do the endoscopy. He added angrily there would be no charge. No charge? Since they didn't do anything, I considered this to be an acerbic remark. One never knows what is going on in someone's life. Everyone is stressed during these times. Maybe this doctor is undergoing some extreme stress. That is NO excuse for this level of unprofessionalism. Given the circumstances, I feel the need to let others know what happened to us. I always recommend silver maple to all of my friends and family. Their staff has been extremely helpful and caring when it comes to my pets. Unfortunately the past two times I have gone there, I have been very displeased. At my cats last wellness visit, my cat was very stressed and the vet took him into the back for his vaccination... the next day I received a call informing me that when the vet took him back FOR HIS VACCINE, she forgot to give it to him and left it in her pocket. I had to go back to the office for the vaccine, stressing my cat for a second time and wasting more of my time. Continued to recommend them anyway, people make mistakes... Which brings me to my next visit. Took my cat here last week to be checked out as he was having issues walking. He received medication, I paid my bill, left, visit complete... wrong. Now I receive a letter in the mail that they forgot to charge me for services ($18 when I pay hundreds for visits) and expect payment for the additional fees. LOL. at this point I will be looking into another vet. I do not expect to make every vet visit a multiple day trip, multiple payment event. Clearly there is an issue when it comes to being efficient at this office. Maybe I just have bad luck, but after mistakes on every visit lately, I am hesitant to come back any time soon. Having 3 dogs and changing vets seemed stressful. Calling and making appointments were always 3 different days or 2 one day and another next. At Silver Maple it was no problem scheduling them all at the same time. All questioned answered be for the appointments. When we drove up.. we were told to use a very easy texting messaging system. Telling them we were there. We watched how the assistants came out to each car with a clipboard (all wearing face masks) and a leash. Very organized. When it was our turn.. they came took each dog with care. Asking about them.. how 2 handle personality etc. Dogs barking away. Took each one in. After about hour.. which we didn't mine at all..3 dogs.. the vet called and went over each dog, what shoots were given. To say I am not happy is an understatement. Took my dog in on Friday to have stitches removed and they caused more damage to her ear removing them. They took a chunk out of the tip which you can see in the first photo was there prior to removal. Not only is a chunk missing but other stitches were torn out leaving more rips. If they were having issues they should have recommended sedating her to SAFELY remove them! I would have gladly paid or rescheduled to have that done! I was never given the option instead they just grabbed as many techs as possible to pile on top of her and RIP these out INCLUDING A CHUNK OF HER EAR!!! I knew it wasn't going to be perfect and even accepted that it may never heal back together. That is fine but to rip a piece of her ear off while removing stitches is unacceptable. read more

I waited over an hour for an emergency appointment for my kitten with diarrhea. No one came for the stool sample over 40 minutes before I heard from the doc who said they were slammed. I left and after1 hour 1/4 and went home . Someone called & asked if I was still in the parking lot. I said no. No one followed up could have cared less about my pet. I have been a client over 30 years when the Yoder's started their clinic. They cared for my cats but it seems how many test can we do & how much $$ can we make? So hurt! read more

I could never say enough about how amazing this vet is! Dr. Sam and his staff treat your pets like their own. They understand that your furry friends are a key part of your family. Kelly is an absolute rockstar in the kennel. Our dogs are always excited to see her and enjoy their stay in what we refer to as the "doggie spa." Great service. The doctors are very informative and patient oriented- my Dr. called me to update me on diagnostics frequently. I am able to call when I have a question, and I know I will be taken care of. They have reasonable prices. There is a senior and student discount. The office cats are an adorable plus! read more

I actually no longer take my dog to Silver Maple but that is ONLY because I have recently moved -- If I could have taken this office of wonderful veterinarians and staff with me, I would have! I have yet to find an office yet that I trust as much as SMVC. They are honest, good people who always took care of my dog. I never had to second guess anything they told me. They truly care about their patients, and not just the $$$ like most vet offices. THANK YOU, Silver Maple, for three wonderful years of caring for my dog. I have been a client there many years. If you get any vet other than Sam or AnnMarie you might as well find another vet. Each time I've had another vet they have hired I have had emergencies and had to take my animal somewhere else. Recently I lost my Shepherd because of their incompetence to read an X-ray. I was sent home with gas pills, when my dog was suffering with ruptured bowel. I had the xrays shown to another vet and it was clearly diagnosed by him that that's was the cause of his death. I will NEVER take any animal there again. Sam and AnnMare are setting up to leave the practice obviously if they are only working 2 days a week. The other vets there are incompetent and should Not ever gotten their license to practice. I hope this review stops someone from losing their pet like I did. I have no respect for either Sam or AnnMarie for not even addressing the issues. I totally agree with Michael S in another review. And Kelsie U. I wouldn't even given a 1 if 0 Was offered. I am from out of town and have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with congestive heart failure. I was here exhibiting at the Kutztown Folk Festival and researched to find a vet to do an abdominocentesis. I finally found a vet I felt qualified to do the procedure. I waited an hour past my appointment to be seen. They took him back and that was an hour. He was so exhausted he could hardly stand. He has a large edema on the right side, and is leaking out of the puncture area and was not bandaged. They then, charged me by the minute because the procedure was longer than expected!! Very unprofessional vet if you ask me!! What if I sent a bill for my waiting period of an hour? An artists wage is not cheap. That I would have understood, but $44 for an extra 10 minutes was ridiculous! They can make up their construction fund on someone else's dime! read more

Great Vet. and wonderful Staff. Silver Maple is a 1.5 hour ride from my house, luckily it is not that far of a trek because it is one of the few vets in the US that perform vasectomies and OSS. My puppy underwent a Vasectomy last year and I could not be happier. I am looking forward to my new puppy getting an OSS in the very near future. Well done Silver Maple and Thank You!! read more
