As a lifelong Alaskan and frequent camper, this campground fostered what was far and way the most existentially disappointing campground experience I have had the displeasure of having. The first of many red flags I stumbled upon was the camp's supposed proprietor, who, despite at first appearing jovial and accommodating, soon revealed herself to be anything but. Her condescending remarks throughout our brief conversation very much drove my group and I away from the prospect from camping at this spot, but unfortunately we had no other choices close to town with vacancies. I was horrified by such blatant disregard for any standard of customer service; truly appalling. After finding our spot (which, by the way, was unnecessarily difficult due to the almost completely nonsensical order of numbered spots), we were made almost immediately aware of the obnoxiously loud and clearly intoxicated group of teens/young adults staying in a cabin close to us. Camp officials paid no mind to this huge detractor, although this may have been out of their depth, as there seemed to be only the aforementioned administrator working. Furthermore, while I appreciated that the campground provided bathroom facilities, these bathrooms were in a state of such neglect and abject uncleanliness, it challenged some of my most core beliefs in life and left me in a state of both shock and disgust. Because of these qualities, I'm afraid I will not be returning to Silver Derby. read more
