Karl did my wife's tattoo and it turned out absolutely beautiful, the detail and linework are so clean and delicate. Billy did mine and completely crushed it. The design is crisp, bold, and perfectly done. You can tell they both take a lot of pride in their work. Scheduling was easy with both of them, communication was smooth, and the whole process felt relaxed and professional. We love how our tattoos turned out and couldn't be happier with the experience. Highly recommend, we'll definitely be back!

This review is long overdue. A little background: Years ago, a friend in college (who was an…read moreapprentice at the time), did an outline of my thigh piece. We're no longer in touch, and after receiving many recommendations for the artists at American Pin-up, I decided it was time to see about getting it filled in. Ben was personable and friendly. He listened carefully to what I wanted and offered suggestions for shading and different color combinations. He emphasized his passion for quality art, explained his reasoning for wanting to use certain colors over others, and offered me a fair price. Ben encouraged me to look at his portfolio, along with the portfolios of other artists in the shop, and even to check out other artists in other shops before making a decision. The vibe I got from artists in other shops was that they would do it quick and cheap. Without really listening to what I wanted or allowing me to view their work, it was "Two-and-a-half hours, three hundred bucks - We can get you in on Tuesday!" Well, the tattoo practically goes from my hip to my knee, wraps half way around my thigh, and the last thing I wanted was a hurried job! Ben did beautiful work. His shading is on point, the colors are well saturated, and the combination just makes them pop! Will definitely be back for another tattoo. Come see Ben, and check out his work! He's new in town and deserves a good PNW welcome! Instagram @benhawaii

I had a piece in mind to cover up an older tattoo. Donna was amazing and recognized right away that it wasn't the right fit for that part of my body. So we talked it over and figured a piece that I liked. We made an appt for two sessions within two weeks of each other (btw she is super popular, I had to wait 5 months to get my first appt). I was very happy with the coverup part. And was even happier when the whole piece came together and was done. Donna is warm and friendly, and doesn't make things awkward! I most likely will be back for another consult when I'm ready for another piece!

Wanted to find a shop that knew what I was talking about when I said I wanted sub dolphins. Any place I looked at here in WI or even some shops I looked at in WA didn't even know what I was talking about. Even given my short time availability, Smitty was able to work me in the schedule. He and I worked on the design, taking some photos I found online as the basis and he came up with an excellent design. It looks even better in the ink! Clean, bright shop, reasonable pricing... A great experience all around.

I'm posting to warn others that SMITTY does hire underlings that have problems, and I assume he does this on purpose to give these people a chance, people that others would never hire. I went to Smittys to get an extremely simple tattoo, two words bordering my collarbone in Greek. These words were inspired by Victor Hugo's preface in The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Smitty was busy so I was turned over to a different artist. She took issue with me right away, was condescending and claimed I was incorrect and that The Hunchback is a French book. I agreed that it is indeed a French book but in the preface Victor Hugo explains that the Hunchback carves in Greek in the bell tower. She continues to be skeptical and rude and raises her voice at me. This is a bizarre experience for me. I am in the middle of cancer treatment and getting the words "fate" and "need" tattooed on me as a last resort, a kind of hope for me. This tattoo artist is like a tick in my arm, such a minuscule setback. Eventually Smitty himself has to come over and clarify that the Hunchback had a classical Jesuit education and therefore would have been educated in Greek. She looks down and says "I never read the preface anyway." Well La-de-da, glad to know. The whole experience was degrading. She put the print on my body crooked and I asked her to fix it and she got upset with me. She still tattooed it on me crooked! She quizzed me on book knowledge the entire time. She charged me $150!!!! Pretty sure she added that last $50 out of spite. I tried to end on a good note and offered to lend her a rare Hungarian book my Laszlo Krasznahorkai. She laughed in my face and said she "probably already had it," as I was leaving she was still laughing at me. I was warned by another person at Smittys BEFORE I got the tattoo that she has a reputation for not getting along with people, but I am Buddhist so I figured I can handle it, but tattooing purposefully crooked is wrong, utterly wrong.
