BarDew Valley - Perry in the kitchen

But this year, my significant other decided at the last minute to join me. While separately searching, we both found this gem, BarDew Valley Inn! And what a find it was! The owner, Perry, was exceptionally accommodating to us and the other guests. Our room, New Orleans, was absolutely stunning! The daily 9 am breakfasts were prepared with care and incredibly scrumptious. The house was beautiful and nightly movie nights in the Theater always the best way to top off the day. Thank you Perry for an extraordinary experience.

There are several themed suites. I stayed in the New York suite, which was a cleaner, more modern feel with several NYC motifs. There is also a New Orleans suite, a cowboy suite, and a French suite. He is currently working on an Asian themed suite. Each suite has its own bath and private entrance, as well as patio space to enjoy the evenings. There is wooded space and a pond out front with sitting areas. Very quiet and on a dead end, so no traffic. The rooms have comfy beds, wonderful, luxurious bedding, and a mattress warmer, which I loved! Each room has a refrigerator and Perry supplies bottled water, a keurig, coffee pods, glasses/cups, an ice bucket, extra blankets. A booklet with info on local restaurants and attractions. Everything you'd need! While I stayed here for work and kept to myself, Perry checked in with me often to make sure I didn't need anything. Other guests used the common areas more, like the movie room/game room and the kitchen. One night Perry built a fire in the fire pit. It would be a great place for people who want to socialize and meet new folks. Perry also makes breakfast every morning. I had to start work very early, so didn't partake, but other guests have raved about it. Perry really does open his home up to everyone and is very gregarious and gracious. It would be a great getaway for anyone wanting to explore the area. My suite was 139 a night, a great value.

Entering…read morethis hotel assaults your senses with an over-sweet odor that you can't put a name to, but it's not very pleasant. The Manager of this place is about as lazy as you can find and all she did was complain. She brought her niece in for a few days, apparently because her mother was ill. All we heard whenever we interacted with her was how long she had to work, how tired she was, and any other inconvenience to her person. At breakfast, she left her ten-year-old niece in charge while she went to the front desk and played on her I-Pad. The other woman who was there, was busy doing something else, but it wasn't clear to anyone there what. I'm not sure it was really legal to have a ten-year-old serving people breakfast, which by the way, was awful, but I doubt the manager felt it was her responsibility to figure that out. The appearance of the front desk was messy, disorganized, and the appearance of the manager and other desk person was totally unprofessional. They looked like they were going to the beach, not running a hotel. Why the young girl was allowed to participate in any of this is beyond me, but I can assure you I will not be staying here again. The manager and her assistant could really use some classes in professionalism and customer service. The only person who was really helpful was the housekeeping staff person, a delightful young woman with bright green hair, who was willing to bring us extra towels, soap, or anything else we needed. I have to say, it was absolutely one of the most disappointing stays at a Best Western I've encountered.

Arrived late after driving 10 hours and went to our room that smelled musty when we opened the door. We turned the AC on and hoped it would help with the smell. Next day we noticed black mold all over the ceiling of the room. Staff apologized and moved us to another room that had a smoke alarm chirping every minute due to a dead battery. Made me wonder why they would wait to change out the batteries on the smoke alarms until they are dead. A much better practice would be to change them out periodically before the batteries are completely dead. Anyways, asked for a discount on the first night since we slept in a room with black mold and the clerk told me they don't give discounts and I should have informed them sooner! What a joke! How dare you place the blame on me for something your hotel neglected! He said they were already having the issue remediated. I noticed dehumidifiers in the hallways, so it seems like humidity issues have been a problem here for awhile. I'll never stay here again.
