My brother and I stay there every time we are visiting. It is clean, comfortable, consistent, and friendly. Try it on your next visit.

Americas Best Value Inn Fredonia - Tub! Better than it looked, for sure.

We booked the suite that had a jetted tub, and I'm so happy we did. The tub was dated, sure, but it felt fantastic and did exactly what we needed it to. It was large enough for two people, although I can say it is more of a single person. The room itself was clean, very basic, and had everything we needed. Some things about it were very dated and in need of replacement. For example, the head board wasn't completely mounted. It looked like a screw needed to be replaced. Everyone we encountered was very nice and courteous. No issues there. We didn't try breakfast, so I'm not sure what that was about. For the area, it was decent. There isn't many options in this area, but I'm glad there was at least 1!

Doors all open to indoor hallway, easy parking, sort of off highway and quiet, rooms well-appointed, continental breakfast is an improvement over previous owners. I was a little perturbed over price increase from my reservation. Made reservation over direct phone call to hotel ten days before stay for $89 for a double occupancy. Rate at check-in was $105. Couldn't get clerk (same name as person who took reservation) to understand that I expected the same rate as quoted at reservation. He was very adamant that the price had increased and there was nothing he could do about it. I alluded to the unethical, if not illegal practice of "bait and switch". He would have none of it. Just my notes to future guests: 1). Let the Buyer Beware 2) The Customer is Not Always Right at this motel.

A couple of phonecalls later, and it had dawned on us that there was NO transportation to be hired in town. No taxi, no Uber, no city bus. Nothing. So there we were: a family with two young kids stranded in an unfamiliar town well after sunset with no way to get off the deserted airport. If I couldn't find a hotel that would shuttle us in, it would be a long, bleary walk in the dark. The manager of this hotel (Clayton, as I recall), was the friendly voice I needed to hear. As it turned out, none of the local hotels ran any kind of a shuttle, but I explained our situation, swallowed, and asked if there was any way he could arrange a ride for us. Whether out of the generosity of his nature, or a desire for a good Yelp review I can only guess, but this good man left his post at the front desk to drive out in his personal vehicle and rescue us. I really, really hope this review does not get him into trouble. On the way into Chanute, he gave us a late-night mini guided tour of the town, and drove us through McDonald's, which delighted our little girls (who hadn't had a proper meal since 7 AM Arizona time). So even if the hotel itself had been a dive, I would have had to give it a good review. BUT, when we got there, it turned out to be an unexpectedly cool old-time main street hotel, the kind with ornamented parapets and bronze lions standing guard on the curb, and an old hearth big enough to heat the odd-though-charming and comfortable lobby, which I will risk describing as Art Nouveau verging into Deco. Apparently what is now an Extended Stay goes back about a century, having been the town's very first hotel and a source of local pride, though eventually falling on hard times and going into eclipse before renovation leading up to the current ownership. The rooms, as some reviewers have indicated, reflect that long history; our room had a floor plan that would no longer be laid out in new construction, but which arguably compensates with that elusive quality called "character." Our room was actually two fairly small rooms that had been made into a mini suite, which worked very well for two adults and two kids. It was slightly tight, but we found everything to be perfectly clean and very comfortable. Although we were stranded, it all felt like an adventure, and like we were really on vacation and not just stuck somewhere. We sat on one of the beds and ate fast food, then crashed, so I can't say anything about TV. In the morning, we discovered we had a commanding view of the main street, and surrounding businesses. The included DIY breakfast was good: I had a waffle and the kids had cereal and fruit. The weather cleared and Clayton gave us a ride back to the airport (where we met the retired town dentist who flew over the Hump in WWII Indochina). Extremely thankful that this little gem exists in Chanute.
