I am only giving this motel 1 Star because it requires me to do so!!! If there was a way to give…read morenegative stars I would. We travel to Independence once every few years & typically we stay at the Super 8. Unfortunately, we were late booking & this is what remained. We booked 2 rooms, side by side for 2 weeks. When we arrived & entered the room, it was your typical "motel", not great but a room. I pulled back the comforters & the sheets looked okay, but the comforters were disgusting. They were stained & extremely old looking. Our first night was okay, beds were super uncomfortable & felt worn out. Our room had two college fridges stacked one on another & there was a microwave. When we went out the next day, we put do not disturb so that the maids would not clean our rooms. When we returned however, our stacked fridges were miraculously gone & a new fridge in its place. It was very disturbing that we had put do not disturb & they entered our room anyway. The next day we left early morning for the day. When we returned, my son advised that his iPod Touch was missing. We never did find it. After that occurred everything went downhill significantly. When the maids did come to take care of the rooms they didn't make any beds. They threw the blankets in the middle of one bed & to say the least they pulled our blanket up in a half ass attempt to make the bed. They never refilled the toilet paper, in fact toward the end of our trip we had to go buy toilet paper at Walmart. Our towels & washcloths were stained, the tub/shower was gross. There were cracks in the wall & ceiling & if someone was taking a shower you could hear water dripping in the ceiling. I had an electric toothbrush that also came up missing & someones shirt appeared in it's place. I say someone else's, for the simple fact that I am size medium & this shirt was a size 2X. To say the least, this was the worst place we have EVER stayed. We understood that it was our issue that we didn't book sooner, but also knew that we just needed somewhere to sleep & that we could deal with a motel. However, if we had known the level of this place, which in my opinion shouldn't even be able to call themselves a hotel or motel, we would have looked a few towns over for somewhere to stay. I can in no way, shape or form recommend anything about this place.

OK, I get it. Independence, KS and you "dis" a hotel? What were you expecting? I was expecting the…read moresame warm welcome and good service I have experienced in other parts of town. I come to this town 4-5 times a year and have been very pleased with the hospitality. But, this time I decided to stay in town not in an other town close by. This property is part of the Wyndham Hotel chains and I have had good experiences before with them. My experience was not very pleasant and it mostly revolved around the staff and the obvious age of the property. At check-in we were not greeted expeditiously nor warmly by the "dude" (no name tag) at the desk. He never made eye contact, engaged in any welcoming banter and could not answer questions as to where was a good place for supper. We got a shrug. The morning following check-in I saw the "dude" from the afternoon before getting his breakfast at the breakfast bar, in his PJ's, looking like he had spent the night in his car in the parking lot. (Security, perhaps) Breakfast was simple with no protein offerings. The room was clean but small. Bed was comfortable. Water was hot. Towels were small and needed to be replaced. TV channel guide needed to be updated. Room temperature controls dated but functioned. Security was non-existent. Entry doors were kept open with duct tape even though the security panel displayed the comforting statement that a room key card was needed after hours. All-in-all, for the same or less we could have stayed in a better place just 25 minutes south in Bartlesville.
