Unsanitary. Stayed for two nights in late July. Although we reserved three days through our bank rewards, we checked out a day early. When we first entered the room, the TV was on and there were two empty Taco Bell wrappers on a night stand. There were crumbs in the lounge chair and trash behind the dresser (water bottle, granola bar wrappers, etc.). The shower curtain was so stained that the lower half had mold and an orange hue. The light in the shower was cracked. The ceiling tiles in the bathroom were water stained and caving in. The toilet paper roll was nearly empty. Two lamps were missing lightbulbs. The comforter and layering sheet had stains of various colors. No telling when the pillows were cleaned, so we bought two pillows to use. Although there are no smoking signs, we encountered a smell of something. We asked for clean towels and were told they'd be delivered. 30 minutes later we stopped waiting and left for dinner. We didn't use the pool or hot tub. And, we didn't eat the hotel breakfast. Although one side door requires a card to enter, another door has no locking mechanism, so anyone can enter the hotel. The positives: The a/c worked and the cleaning staff were very helpful with extra towels and trash removal. Centrally located to downtown. read more

I made a room reservation over the phone and was quoted price for room. When I arrived a they raised the rate and would not give me the price quoted on the phone. The desk clerk was rude and argued on and on basically arguing with herself. The key cards would'nt open any external doors. Therefore we had to enter through lobby or one external door that was never locked although a sign posted right beside door stated ^Locked at all times for your safety". Both were at far end from our room. Hotel and our room had a feeling of not being very clean. Mattress lumpy, mattress pad stained, sheets yellow/thin and didnt look or feel clean. Tub needed a good cleaning and had no stopper. Towels small and thin. I could go on but I'll end with I would not recommend this hotel. read more

I've stayed at the Apple Tree many times and I have to say it's went downhill. This use to be the best place to stay in Independence but from my most recent experience I know I'll need to try something else next time. The place did not seem to be kept up, the breakfast, although never great, was horrible this time. I'm not sure if I've ever slept in a more uncomfortable bed in my life, not to mention the stains on the bed spread. This place was one of the worst hotels I've stayed at staff or rude when we needed help they were rude the pool smelled horrible it smells like mold the rooms are no smoking and it smells like smoke in my room in my other room we got it it smells like butt their breakfast was horrible you had to eat breakfast in your room or the swimming pool area in the swimming pool area it was very hot for no reason they ran out of food an hour and a half before breakfast and was over you had to ask the front desk staff to turn the heat on for the hot tubs it says all outside doors are locked that's not true The other room their refrigerator went out in the middle of the night staff was rude about that Bad air conditioning in either room The food was cold and didn't taste good when the fridge did go out in the middle of the night the next day we told someone in the staff snootily said you should've told us at midnight when it went out the other room the light was flickering so much that it was giving them headaches does vending machines we're hot which melted the food inside of them there was no working ice machine and when the one did work it ran out of advice fast The room was dirty bedsheets were stained mirrors were stained there was under the toilet please don't stay here would not recommend and I just found out that they had bed bugs read more

We stayed 2 nights during Neewollah. The room was clean. It is a nice sized room. We enjoyed the easy street access to all of the surrounding activities. The hotel staff were nice and made sure every question was answered in the nicest way. The breakfast was great. This was our second stay and again we forgot swim suits. We have already made our reservations for next year.... and I'll have to note swim on my calendar. read more

My boyfriend and I booked a room for 3 nights. When we arrived, the young girl at the front desk, by the name Kristen, seemed very agitated....that was until my boyfriend came in a few minutes behind me. She got bubbly and giggly and practically threw herself at him right in front of me! We didn't the rest of the day relaxing on our room, which was quite clean. The housekeepers were great! I woke in the night to find my boyfriend gone. I walked into the hallway towards the windows to check our vehicle but on the way I heard my boyfriends voice coming from the room I was passing. I knocked on the door and covered the eye hole. Kristen answered the door, in her underwear and I asked if she'd seen my missing boyfriend. She opened the door wider so that i could see him sitting on the edge of the bed facing what appeared to be a stripping pole. Needless to say we didnt stay the rest of our reserved weekend and we will never stay there again.​ read more

It's a relative 4 star for the area, but 3 on an absolute scale. Clean rooms, friendly staff. Night desk lady is functionally a potted plant. "I'm almost out of towels." Um, can I have one? Or, were you saving them for another guest? All in all a decent deal, but I'll have no loyalty if a better gig rolls into town. $100/night/room is a bit much for Montgomery county, Kansas. Mattress felt more like a box spring. My kids love the chocolate muffins and the pool area. Why does the pool close at 10:30pm? No one knows, but the lady will literally flash the ambient lights so you know it's 10:25pm. Apparently, it doesn't matter if you're being quiet, etc. 10:30pm sharp--she's got some solitaire to play. If you don't have kids, Best Western in Coffeyville may be a better choice for the money. read more

Zero stars. I made a reservation for two rooms July 3-5 through Expedia. I cancelled the reservation on June 26 and received confirmation. Now the inn is charging me $95.44 for a no show on one room. I only had one reservation number. They are refusing to credit my account. This is ridiculous. read more

Where do I start?!!! Do not stay here! If I could give 0 stars I would, but I can't in order to leave this review. I have stayed at many hotels in my life time and even have been employed by a hotel and I have never arrived back for my final night to be told that I can't stay that night. Apparently, they were having some people come by in the morning to check the alarms and were supposed to evacuate by noon today. We left this morning at 9:30 and did not return until 8:00 this evening to be told this. It never occurred to them to call me with the number they had in file. The clerk even said, "Oh, that would have been a good idea." We also walked right by the desk on our way out this morning and no one said a thing. Other problems included horrible breakfast, rooms not being serviced or half - serviced (one bed made and the other one not), no water pressure in shower, leak in shower, light out in bathroom, thin towels, and tiny pillows. I was willing to overlook these because we were only sleeping there, but getting kicked out was the icing on the cake. I never leave reviews, but I am just floored as to how bad this place is. read more

I DO NOT recommend staying here. For starters, the hotel was not very clean at all. I couldn't use the hair dryer in my room because there was nasty stuff smeared all over it. The comforter on the bed had stains all over it, we just threw it on the floor before we even sat on the bed. The leather rocking chair in the room also had stains all over it. When I booked the room, I was NOT told there would be renovations going on in the whole hotel. (Replacing ugly carpet for even uglier carpet) the entire hallway leading to my room was filled with furniture from the rooms they were ripping up. It was a maze to get through and get our luggage through and even had to have the construction workers move items at times. As soon as they started ripping up all the carpet me and my two friends started coughing really bad. All our coughs went away after we left the hotel. I think they were stirring up mold and dust. So here comes to the worst part of our stay. When we were checking out the next morning, I told the woman behind the counter and a guy who I had seen since I got there (didn't know what his job was but it was obvious he worked there) his name is Satish, aka Sam. Satish goes on to tell us the managers are out of town and they have no authority to give us a discount or do anything to satisfy our stay. I asked for the managers numbers and the desk clerk gave me two numbers to call. I called both the numbers while standing there. Both went straight to voicemail. Before I left, (very unsatisfied with my stay) I asked the desk clerk to write down all their names on my receipt and I would call back the next day. I called the next morning and spoke with a woman who was not there the day before, I asked her who the managers were and she told me Satish and his wife Sandy are the managers AND owners. I couldn't believe it. The OWNER of the hotel was lying straight to my face about having no authority to help me out. He was blaming ME... the guest, for not complaining sooner... we were busy as it was my vacation... I didn't have time to mess with the very rude hotel staff. SATISH is a LIAR and a scumbag. His facility deserves to be shut down. DO NOT STAY HERE. read more

Don't be fooled by the pool photo. It looks just like that -- but it's NOT heated -- and neither is the "hot" tub. Although we stated we were attracted to the inn because of its pool, the clerk did not tell us that the heater didn't work until we were completely checked in. She offered no compensation for the lack of this amenity either. Otherwise, it was a quiet, clean place, with an adequate breakfast bar. Tiny bathroom. read more
