OK, so I'm super behind on writing about the experience in Tarifa, but since I can still recall every detail like it was last night, I can safely declare it unforgettable. Let's start with ambiance. We wandered down the narrow, twisting, lonely streets of the old city, with high, solid, whitewashed walls towering to either side as the sun was creeping to the far horizon, feeling like the only people in the world. We were beginning to be worried that we had missed it when we happened upon the open, steam-punk style gates in the wide, inviting doorway set into the wall. Our host in Tarifa advised that we would likely need a reservation, but we tried our luck since the visit was both early in the dinner service and just before the officially recognized beginning of tourist season. We were seated almost immediately, and our table set with a lovely bowl of the bright green olives that this region grows in abundance. I'm fairly certain I've never had better, fresher olives in my life, and that set high expectations for the rest of the meal. We started with the Papas Bravas, since every guide for visiting Spain mentions the dish. You can get Papas Bravas in the States, so we knew we would be expecting fried potatoes topped with crema and drizzled with a picante salsa of some nature. One bite of the little square-cut home-fries dripping with the Silos 19's take on the silky crema and smoky, spicy hot sauce was enough to explain why this dish is near the top of things everyone must try in Spain. We cleaned every last morsel out of that bowl and considered calling over a server to cancel the rest of the order in favor of two more servings. It was just that good. We were still debating the wisdom of more Papas Bravas when our actual dinner order arrived. We had both decided to go for grilled octopus, knowing that it would be far fresher than any we might find at home, and excited for the local take on the spicing. I nearly wept with joy at the first taste, and Raz declared the dish better than any he had tried in the world. I was too speechless to agree until I had savored every last perfectly marinated and grilled piece. Now, writing about it months after the fact, my mouth still waters. We left a completely packed restaurant just as darkness fell on Tarifa, and completely understood why our host had recommended Silos 19. We make the same recommendation. (Date of visit 5/5/2019)

*NOTE* If anyone experiences such rude behaviour please do not hesitate to ask for the papel de…read morereclamación form. You can request this form even if you are a tourist. Horrible service from a condescending and misgonystic waiter. We asked to have only a coffee and sat outside to enjoy the street live musicians. At the end the waiter constantly made condescending nasty remarks how we spent only 4 euros and not enough money to sit at his tables. He continued telling us that we are just American woman on vacation in Málaga. Then pushed my friend on her shoulder and yelled at us to get out of his restaurant. He continued to yell at us as we walked down the street. We were disgusted and immediately told the police nearby who accompanied us to the restaurant to help us file a formal complaint with the city hall. Of course with the presence of the police he was respectful and polite only to the police. But he continued to make nasty comments about women and the police had to ask him to sit quietly as we filed a formal complaint. He didn't stop and told me good luck filling out the form because it's not in English! LoL We all know how Americans are so uneducated right? The police spoke no English so how did I explain the situation... Maybe this silly American is studying Spanish in Spain?? Nah we are just uneducated American tourists. I strongly do not recommend this establishment and hope no one has to suffer this behavior for buying a coffee and sitting outside for 40 minutes. If there was a minimum to sit down he could have told us and we would have made a decision to stay or leave. Many cities with restaurants in prime locations make there expectations clear and we respect that. But it's not acceptable to treat people like second class for not spending enough. Stay away.

It's right by the Picasso museum. The foie gras were tasty. Tuna had very interesting and diverse flavors. We also tried Choucroute which had a ton of meat and close to a German dish because it's from east part of France. Dessert was amazing also - try the chocolate mousse and lemon cake. If you enjoy good quality food and have time. Try it out and you'll love it.

Worst restaurant ever! I've organized a wine and cheese tasting there to get my friends to get to…read morediscover French culture... What a mistake! They'd offered a "menu" for 25€/head including 4 glasses of wine and 4 different kinds of cheese, I had asked for free bread and water included and that people should not be hungry at the end, because 25€ is a lot especially in Spain, and they said ok. On the said night we arrived at the restaurant and paid the 25€ upfront because I wanted to guarantee they had full payment. So... we indeed had 4 glasses of wine but the cheese... They gave us only 3 ridiculous platters of cheese out of which you could only feed 2 people!! For the 12 of us!! And no water. So we asked for water. Then came 3 50cl bottles of water. We were still hungry so asked for another cheese platter and then we thought that finally we would get some value for our money. Then the waiter offered more food (he said "foie") and we were like "oh great! Free stuff!! Yeah bring it on" so we had our foie which actually was disgusting pâté de foie covered with weird stuff like chocolate!!! Oh my god this is not French!! But we thought we were getting it for free so what the hell. And then the waiter came back offering deserts or cocktails and then we thought this was the most amazing restaurant ever offering us so many things when we thought it was expensive to start with!! How mistaken were we.. Some of us started to leave and then the waiter arrived saying that we still had the bill to pay for. So I asked what bill because we'd already paid and he brought a 150€ bill!!! For all extras we thought were free!! Like for instance : 26€ for a plate of 4 very small pieces of what they called foie gras and which was actually pâté de foie. They even charged us for water. And when looking at the detailed bill we realized that the original tasting menu should have cost us 20€ and not even 25. Just DO NOT GO THERE.
